Adrian from axis has said the main difference in speed from 1010 and 1150 to the 1300 is not just the thickness, but also the camber. 1300 has much less camber than 1010 and 1150. The camber helps the 1010 and 1150 for slow speed pumping, but makes them draggy when winging.

Yes, well said. The 1150 is painfully slow, the 1300 a bit better but turns very slowly. And coming from the ART 1099 is hard. The big fools have their place in low wind and in dock start or SUP foiling.

@@wingfoil_mallorca I have 1150, 1099, 999, 899 (and more). Maybe I'll get 1300 for red fuse for light wind wingfoiling, SUP in waves (total beginner) or downwinding (never tried).... but also considering 1310.... but leaning towards 1300. Thanks

@@paulshapiro6119 yeah, you’ve god a well covered setup for fast riding. The 1300 would come handy for DW or SUP foil like you said. 1310 mainly for pumping as it will be a bit slow for wing foiling. Much like the 1150. The 1300 is a lot faster but also with a lot of lift. I had both the 1150 and 1300 and I sold the 1150 as the 1300 is very close in lift but much better for speed as I, for the time being, mainly do wing foil. But like you are tempted to other stuff as well!

I just bought one. Haven’t tried it yet. I do have the 1050 which is great once up but not good for me in marginal winds unless I use my huge 8m wing. I want to use a 6m wing and ride the wind blown surf (2 foot waves) here in Chicago on Lake Michigan where the wind is often 9-14 knots. For me, going fast is not as important as working on my surfing and downwind gliding skills.

I have 1150 and it was a game changer for me while learning last year. I live in Florida, winds are quite light here, I really struggled with my 970 in 10-12 mpg. 1150 in the same conditions got me on foil very fast. Especially when I learned how to pump. If I break it, I will buy the 1300 for light winds. One problem with 1300 I can see is that it's super dangerous. I tried it once and this thing is huge and sharp.

Hi Winternaul. I agree. The 1150 makes riding very easy. Very good in low winds and also if you want to do dock start. It is perfect to learn on. The only drawback in wing foil is it is quite slow. And you are right, the 1300 is the next step up. It is as easy to get up on foil as the 1150, but has a lot higher top speed. It has an aspect ratio of 9.94 which is insane....;-) An amazing foil. But so are many of the Axis foils. The 1050 is the next step up from the 1300 when you have more wind and then the amazing ART series, wow.... they are even better than amazing.

I have been riding PNG 1150 for a while. Is it worth getting PNG 1300? Or Should I move on to HPS 1050 ? My level is that no problem on jibing, but still working on my tack..

Hey, it’s a good question. It depends on your preferred type of riding and conditions. I know you have light winds and that makes the 1300 a good choice. But it is quite close to the 1150. A bit faster. In my mind I see the 1050 or even the ART 1099 as your next step. They both need about 11-12 knots to fly. Maybe a knot less with your big wing. The 1050 is a safer bet with the 1502cm2 compared to the 1099, with its 1144cm2. But the 1099 is a lot better and funnier at everything the 1050 can do. So, the question would be, how adventurous are you? 😅

Hej Fredric, at 1.46 you mentioned how good the 1150 is. Please eleborate a bit since I have watched your video about the 1150 and I don’t real get the same message in that video.

Hi Ulf, The 1150 is a front wing with a lot of lift and glide. The glide and low stall speed is quite impressive for a 1700cm2 foil. Compared to the 1700 of Starboard it's completely the opposite. The 1150 is not a fast foil. But great to learn wing foiling with as it gives you stability, great lift and time to adjust and correct stance and movements when you are learning to stay up on foil. I'm surprised not more riders learn to wing foil with this foil. It would improve anyone's riding quickly. Lately I have been using it to ride waves. Here in Mallorca the waves are generally quite slow and to stay on/in the wave you need a slower foil with a lot of lift. The 1150 works great for that. I also ride the 1300 for the same reason. But the 1300 is faster than the 1150 so if we have faster waves, I choose the 1300. Hope this clarifies any of your questions, if not, let me know. What material do you ride? Are you thinking of getting Axis foils?

@@wingfoil_mallorca Thanks Fredrik, the scenario you describe with slow waves in light winds is what we have in the west cost of Sweden. My local surf shop (Surfers Varberg) gives me the fantastic opportunity to try the foils before buying so I already decided for the PNG 910 for medium to strong winds. Now I trying to decide the front wing for light wind and choosing between HPS 1050 and PNG 1150. The PNG 910 comes both for black and red fuselage so the the light wind front wing decides the fuselage (trying to avoid buying two). I realy like low wind wing foiling since it gives me more days on the water. My weight is 80 kg and I have wings from 3.5 to 7.5 to get as many days on the water as possible. What low wind front wing would you select from the two candidate I have?

@@UlfSk82 Ulf, 1050 är inte alls en foil för lite vind. Snarare tvärtom. Lyfter från 11-12 knop. 1150 är bättre om du vill ha en foil du kan använda i 10/9/8 knop med en stor Winge. Men 1150 är väldigt långsam, man måste ta med det i beräkningen. PNG 1300 är 1712 i yta (1150 är 1778 i yta) och en mycket snabbare foil än 1150. Så det beror lite på hastigheten på vågorna (om du vill surfa dem) eller vilken fart du önskar rent generellt dagar med lite vind. Min preferens är 1300 före 1150. Men olika dagar har olika förutsättningar så eftersom jag har båda kan jag välja beroende på situationen. Som i många sporter är det material i olika valörer som gör det hela så mycket roligare. 😉

An aspect ratio is a proportional relationship between an image's width and height. (NOT surface area)

From wikipedia In aerodynamics, the aspect ratio of a wing is essentially the ratio of its length to its breadth (chord). A high aspect ratio indicates long, narrow wings, whereas a low aspect ratio indicates short, stubby wings. For most wings the length of the chord is not a constant but varies along the wing, so the aspect ratio AR is defined as the square of the wingspan divided by the area S of the wing. [which is equal to the length-to-breadth ratio for a constant chord wing. Aspect Ratio's calculations for wings have been around for a while so all Kite companies should be calculating the same way. For Example a 6m x 3m rectangle has a aspect ratio of 2. The length is 2 times the width. By formula = (6^2 )/ (6x3) = 36 / 18 = 2. The denominator in kite terms is the size of the kite (square metreage of the kite, measured accurately).

Hey, Can't compare it to the BSC 1060 as I haven't tried it. But the 1300 for DW is great. It stays up easily and glides a lot. Important to pair it with a small stab to get maximum glide. It works for both wing foil and SUP foil. Where do you ride?

Ah, yes. We wrote earlier… Melbourne to Mallorca. That’s some trip. ;-) Yes, there are a couple of places to rent gear in. El Niño surf Center here in the south and Pura Vida up North. Maybe bring your foil,-if possible and only rent board and wing? Check with the shops to book your gear in advance. They all speak English. And..if you come. Let me know and we’ll take you riding in nice places!

There's nothing better than enjoying the Spanish culture while wing foiling...will start planning along with my wife Alba.
