Thank you, my friend! I have been trying to find this information. You have helped me out so much. I never had a 24-v trolling motor. But thanks to a Bassproshop employee who didn't know what he was talking about. Also myself, for not checking on the box. Now I have one. Thanks again.

“Clean electrical connections are the key to everything running correctly” … Very wise words. Crusty connections are a pretty common issue with TMs - especially with all the new tech like remote steer, pwr this and that etc. From the jumper to the breaker, you nailed this install. Thanks for another great video

Your 24v jumper wire is also important to protect the wire from any shorting out. You should have circuit protection on every circuit at or very near the positive side battery post.

I'm looking at Lund and Tracker boats. I like the Lund build better but the Marina sales of Lund are misleading and overpricing seems to be a tactic. The Tracker sales are straight forward and they include trolling motors and many other features at a 20% lower price. I would like some advice on these 18 foot deep V aluminum boats?

I’m still learning about this whole 24 volt set up. I’ve been out twice now with my boat, the minkota runs great. But when I get home and check the batteries for recharging purposes, only one battery is discharged. Is that normal?
@EricGaskamp2 жыл бұрын
No, that is definitely not normal. Are both batteries the same age? Also, It sounds like its running in 12 volt mode. Older trolling motors had a switch that you would run 12v only or 24v. What trolling motor do you have? Another reason is that it could be wired improperly. Make sure both batteries are identical and they are the same age. Both batteries must be in top shape otherwise one weak one will bring the other down. I hope this helps some, and thank you for watching!
@aleve19742 жыл бұрын
@@EricGaskamp I have a Minnkota Edge, 24 volt 70 lb thrust. My batteries are a couple monster heavy Eaton deep cells. They are hooked up as you directed, but for some reason they discharge kind of goofy. Also, with my volt meter, shouldn’t the reading on the meter be up around 24 volts if both are adequately charged?

Question for you I was just given a trolling motor that is a 24V is it cheapoer buying two 12v batteries compared to buying a single 24v lithium? I dont know what to do with it
@EricGaskamp Жыл бұрын
That is an excellent question, however I am not well versed in lithium yet. Due to cost I stick with lead acid but I have heard many good things about the single 24 volt lithium. Also another charger would be needed for the lithium if yours won't do multiple types of batteries. Sorry for the late reply and thanks for watching!
@samuelmackey81542 жыл бұрын
Be careful when using your jumper wire, if you have a newer minn kota and hook it up like that you’ll smoke your plug in. I just about did it. Went back and read the manual for the trolling motor and it’s actually opposite.. connect positive to battery 1 and negative to battery 2 for your jumper wire
@EricGaskamp2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and thank you for the heads up!!
@chadbosko8935 Жыл бұрын
so his hookup is wrong for joining the batteries together? Or do u mean just for your minn kota, I have a motorguide with no instructions so his way is probably ok for me right?
@dennislewis7602 Жыл бұрын
How do you charge it? Like do you charge it on 2amp 12 volt button on the charger. I’m really asking about charging one. For my kayak Minn kota. I just got the old town predator xl. Im trying to figure out if im charging the same 24 volt battery right or not. I’ve used it four times and I thought I was charging it right. But the volt meter on the battery box said 11.5 however the tester on the motor said charge it. I came back in because I thought it was dead.
@EricGaskamp Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. You can charge each battery individually with a small 12volt charger like that. Just do one battery at a time.

If I'm using my outboard to charge the batteries can I not just put the red wire from it to the red post on the battery where the red wire from the electric motor is attached and the same for the black in the appropriate spot

@EricGaskamp2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching!! These batteries charge from an on board charger which plugs into a wall outlet. I believe people have tried to make a charging system using the engine however it is not very practical. I can go a full weekend on one charge. Sometimes longer!

First, Thanks for the video. Is it necessary to run the positive wire for the trolling battery on Battery 1 and the negative on 2? I run power to a plug in the bow. I have 4 gauge wire running from the battery compartments to the plug in the bow....
@EricGaskamp Жыл бұрын
Tha k you for watching! Running the wires to the plug that way is how you get 24 bolts at the plug so usually that is how it is run unless the manual for the trolling motor says otherwise.

@connerbehrlefishing7 ай бұрын
I have accessories hooked up to my cranking battery. Accessories normally run off of 12v and you’ll fry them on 24v, right? So in my mind once you run 2 batteries in series, and you only hook accessories up on 1 of the 2 batteries in series, it would still pull 24v to the accessories if that makes sense? I could be wrong. I’m no expert and I hate working with electricity.
