Damn, finally a video that explains this clearly! I have an amp in my truck that is 'popping' when key is turned off, and apparently I need a relay. Thank you for sharing this!!

I’m trying to help my brother in law wire a speaker into razor. The razor comes with a bus bar that has a pig tail hook up. It has 3 wires that feed out from the bus bar . Positive, accessory, and negative. He’s wiring a sound bar into a 4 pin rocker switch to switch the sound bar on. He has to wire in this exact relay. We pretty much got everything where it goes but the 3rd wire which is the accessory wire. Do you know by chance where the accessory wire could go?
@streetstancecivicgarage11 ай бұрын
Should go to the accessory wire should go to the accessory wire from the ignition. Or fuse block for accessories. So when you turn the key it actives the relay. The power side should be hot at all times.

I have a 2021 ram 2500. A buddy of mine put a piece of wire in the fuse box where prongs 85 and 86 go and now the ac blower stopped working. I have power in 87 and 30 but 86 doesn’t have power no more. I checked the relay and it is still good since the relay was not plugged in at the time. All fuses are good as well. What could have messed up in the fusebox?
@streetstancecivicgarage6 ай бұрын
You put power to the ground. You must have blown a fuse. Under the hood or in the cabin.

In the diagram why not hook the light to the switch?
@philjoseph6997 Жыл бұрын
So before I found this video I was referencing a different diagram and connected both 85 and 86 to the negative terminal of the battery... obviously didn't work, but have I potentially ruined anything such as the relay, switch, or battery?
@streetstancecivicgarage Жыл бұрын
You may have hurt the relay if you powered it up. But they are pretty resilient. Hook it up the right way and see if it works if it don't power up just switch the relay out for a new one.

So if your object has a neg wire and positive wire which do you connect to 87 and where does the other wire go?
@streetstancecivicgarage2 жыл бұрын
Whatever you are trying to turn on goes to pin 87 the object ground can be grounded anywhere.
@WallyJ2K Жыл бұрын
@@streetstancecivicgarage That didn't answer his question. Your explanation video is like a lot of others that just mentions "power from the battery" and "power goes to your lights or whatever", but electrical circuits have positive and negative sides and wires. It would have been more helpful if you said "A wire from the negative on the battery goes to your switch, and the positive wire from the battery goes to an inline fuse that is rated for the amps of the device you are running, then a wire from the inline fuse to pin 30 on the relay. Then pin 87 goes to the positive side of your accessory, then the negative side of the accessory/light goes straight back to the battery".

Do you need a relay for each fog light? I'm running 2 halogen 55w bulbs. Or can I run 2 wires from pin 87? Thanks Matt
@streetstancecivicgarage Жыл бұрын
You can run both from it.
@The3leo3 Жыл бұрын
Quick question, is it relevant if instead of having a switch on 86 positive feed, the switch is from ground to 85? I mean it shouldnt matter because in my view both options would isolate the solenoid right? Is there any reason not to do it with the switch on 85
@streetstancecivicgarage Жыл бұрын
You can actually do it either way. But being me I would like for the power to be cut.

86 Is the negative coming from the toggle switch?
@streetstancecivicgarage2 жыл бұрын
No you bring power to a switch from the battery or power source. Then the other wire when you switch it on goes to 86 on the relay.
@streetstancecivicgarage2 жыл бұрын
There are 2 power sources.the switch activates the relay. Ground 85.
@streetstancecivicgarage2 жыл бұрын
1 comes from battery to a fuse panel then to pin 30. Pin 87 goes to what you want to turn on. 85 goes to ground. 86 comes from a power source that turns on with the car. So it's not hot the whole time.

Y cant u just wire light direct Y do u need a relay Can u explain please Pretty green with electrical
@streetstancecivicgarage Жыл бұрын
The relay give you more control over the consistency of power ran to the device. You will need a 5 pin relay to run bright lights. One pin runs dim lights and one pin runs bright lights. It transfers power from one to another for you to make your lights change over. If not you will have a toggle for dims and another for brights and you will have to manually switch the lights over. And easier to blow fuses and over load the circuit without the relay.

The instructions on my relay which is for an air horn says 85 is to the switch and 86 to the ground.
@streetstancecivicgarage2 жыл бұрын
It may be the way that relay is wired for that horn but regular Automotive relays 86 is to the switch 85 is to the ground

To everybody out there who wonder why a 4 pin relay has 30 embossed on the side of the cover but 87a marked on the spade terminal. Have yet to see anyone address this dilema. 30 & 87a are the same!
@streetstancecivicgarage6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the reply. But your wrong. 4 pin relays don't have 87a. That is a 5 pin relay, and they are not the same one only has power when switched and the other it hot when you turn ignition on. So if you need something on from start and you hook to the wrong pin it will be off. you will have to manually turn it on via a switch.
