Hey mate, quick question, i have a monoblock that runs 2 parallel channels & 1 DVC 4ohm SUB. Can i stick one side of my DVC's positive and negative into one side of the amp and the other DVC positive and negative into the other? Does that break it down to two ohm as its a monoblock? How would i get it back to 4ohm? Do i just use one side of the amp to stay at 4ohm? Last question, Sound wise, whats better, running my 4ohm 12 inch at 2 ohm or 4 ohm? thanks a lot.

What about showing us a final impedance of 4 ohms. This really is hard to find this info online. A single 4 ohm sub wired specifically to a 4 ohm amp. Why is that so hard to find?!
@ProvoBeastAudio Жыл бұрын
Because it's a direct connection, if it is a SVC 4 ohm sub, simply connect your speaker wire to the only terminals on the sub, and connect those directly to the amp. There is no parallel / series connection being there is only one sub, and one coil to connect.

@mikefrom19743 жыл бұрын
The math here is: wiring speakers in parallel gives you the inverse of the sum of the ohms' inverses, in series it just adds the ohms. Since a DVC has the same resistance on both coils the rule becomes parallel = half, series = double. Since most car speakers come in 2 or 4 ohms you can not get to 6 with a single DVC. Somw workarounds / caveats: 1) Ohms listed my mfr are not always exact. In fact the speaker demo'd in this video resulted in just over 6 ohms when wired in series (instead of 8). So "somewhere between 6 and 8" is a safe bet for wiring that specific 4ohm DVC in series. You could hook that up and if the ohms were a bit high you'd sacrifice a bit of performance but wouldn't blow your amp. 2) If you had 2 DVC speakers you have many different ways of wiring them. Wire one of them in parallel to itself to get 2 ohms, then wire that whole mess in series with a single 4 ohm coil on the other speaker. You'd then have 6 ohms of impedance for the set. Verify with a MM.

can a 1200 amp handle a 1500 sub
@chadjay8283 жыл бұрын
It depends on what the RMS power is if the RMS power is lower on the amp than it is on the subwoofer then you will be fine if it’s opposite then you take a risk at blowing your speaker

Still cant find how to run a single 4 ohm DVC to get a 4 ohm load
@ProvoBeastAudio3 жыл бұрын
It's impossible to get a final 4 ohm load with a DVC 4 ohm subwoofer. You will need a different subwoofer that is either a SVC 4 ohm sub or a DVC 2 ohm sub.

What about wiring it for 4 ohms..? You showed how to wire final impedance to 2 ohms, and to 8 ohms. As well as 4 ohms to 2x speakers, but not 4 ohms to 1x single speaker.

When is it wired at 4 ohm....not 2 or 8......how? My amp is 4 ohm,bridged....
@ProvoBeastAudio4 жыл бұрын
Laws of resistances at play here. If you want a final impedance of 4 ohms, find a Single Voice Coil @ 4 ohms Subwoofer.
trunkbangking more efficient with lower ohm. An amp will produce more watts at a 2 ohm load than a 4 ohm load

so in other words. a single 4 ohm DVC sub can run at either 2 ohms or 8 ohms. two 4 ohm DVC subs will give you a total of 4 ohms. but, I have a question, I have one 4 ohm DVC plus one 4 ohms single voice coil. if the sub is connected as a 2-ohm configuration. plus the single 4 ohms voice coil woofer. what total ohms at the amp? (this is for Home audio) thanks

You always have to calculate in the resistance value from the multi-meter test leads first before doing any resistance testing to get the proper reading.

Okay I'm learning and make moves faster than I'm learning, here's the scenario I'm in. I had the Polk audio powered sub (pw10) for years, recently watched a show with clipping bass, and it half way blew the sub by the time the show was over. in hindsight, I remember the bass in those scenes sounding distorted, but I was too entranced in the show to stop watching. I already took the liberties to order a KICKER CVR104 dual coil 4 ohm to replace the stock woofer. (long before I learned anything about power matching) For videos I see the stock woofer is a single coil 4ohm so with that I know the amp can handle at least 4ohms, but there is little information on the amp other than it supposed to do 50-100 watts rms. The sub I ordered claims 50--400 watts arms ( 200 watts per coil) So my thinking is, I should wire it in series, and get a max power of 100 watts and it should match the amp's output? it's a small room, I'm not too concerned about using the full power of the sub, I know I'd need a whole new amp to safely to that, I just want to know if my line of thinking is correct before I hook the thing up. My goal is to get about as much bass as I got out of the cheap driver without hurting the amp, and hopefully having my setup last a few more years before needing to deal with this shit again.

howd you get on? I run a 12inch straight of my home stereo too. 8ohm. DVC in series. Works perfect.
@VALAREZ3 жыл бұрын
@@georgecostanza831 I bought the wrong sub, I got a DVC 4ohm not realizing I couldn't wire it at 4ohms....live and you learn. However wired at 8ohms AND still way underpowered it still sounds great either as good as the original driver or better. in fact I'm pretty sure it's moving more air because I'm hearing some port noise on low notes I didn't hear before, but once I sit in the sweet spot it just sounds smooth and clear, you just hear the port noise when outside of the sweet spot. SO I'm thinking of adding a second sub just to add more area to the sweet listing spot.
@georgecostanza8313 жыл бұрын
@@VALAREZ Yeah you live and learn alright, and yeag thats always nice increasing the bass, im in the process of chucking two 12's into my car and into a ported box too. So that just upgraded my room's 8ohm 12inch to a larger box. Now the bass is even better. Neighbours are loving me.

@magnificent103049 ай бұрын
@jhatfield2927 if it's reading 4 ohms I don't think u have to use both terminals. I guess it's there to match your speakers to the amp using these methods.
@fishfire_29992 жыл бұрын
What happens if you only put wires on 2 terminals ? Do both sets always need to be wired ?
@ProvoBeastAudio2 жыл бұрын
You will burn up your coils if you only connect half the terminals. You need to connect each coil / terminal sets.
