This was the best and most clarifying video regarding the subject that I’ve found on KZbin. You did an excellent job breaking it all down in a simple manner. Well done and thank you

Thanks a lot. I use to live in the Netherlands for about 6 years, and your voice made me feel at home. I'm about to put a pair of Fishman Fluence Modern pickups in a Les Paul Tribute model I bought a while back. I'm very excited for a little added gain from the Les Paul. Ingoing to watch your video a few more times as I go through the included parts (mine came with a three way switch). I'll set myself up at my work bench, with everything layer out, including the wiring diagram. Then I'll take it step by step. Thanks so this video. Great instruction and great graphics! I notice you said there are additional capabilities for these pickups. I got the McRocklin which are slightly modified from the Open Core classics. Curious if there are any capabilities other than 5-way or hard-wiring one of the voicings? The rest is covered I think. I don't need a 5-way, and don't want to hard wire the voicings. But I'm curious if you meant there is some additional configuration that could be interesting?

@UnquendorGuitars
@UnquendorGuitars 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Adrien, Thank you very much. If you want a 'Power On' indicator LED which turns on when you plug in the Guitar. You need run a wire from the + on the battery to a resistor, check the required value for the LED you're using, and connect the resistor to the anode (long leg). Connect the cathode (short leg) to the common ground in the guitars circuitry. The Plug on the guitar lead will now act as a switch when you plug in the guitar. Connecting the battery - with ground in your guitar circuitry. Alway test this with the pickups disconnected... just in case... Good luck

Awesome Explanation!! one question, are just supposed to leave the Ground not connected on the voicing sections?
@UnquendorGuitars
@UnquendorGuitars 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Zierim, Yes. When you use switches or push/pull pots to switch between voicings you can leave the indicated ground connection points unused. You can connect the voice selection connection to any part of the grounding circuit in the guitar to activate that voicing. However..... Fishmann provides small jumper connectors with the sets if you want the pickup to always be in a particular voicing without switching. Let's say you want them to alway be in voicing 2 you can put the jumper between the voice 2 connection and it's ground point on the pickup itself.

I like to leave my guitar plugged in at home. So would it be valid to use one of the push pull pots as a master control selector for voice 1 and two and in the other push pull pot, having a ground wire and the battery terminal so that it is only powered when the pot is in a certain position. Would there be any reason to not do it this way? Another question, here assuming that a stereo jack is used for the battery connection: in a guitar with two pots and a 3 way blade selector, what would be the best possible way to get all the Fishman options? By that I mean: 1. Switching between voice 1 and voice 2 2. Using the coil splits vs the full humbucker 3. Engaging the HF-Tilt function (perhaps redundant with a tone knob) 4. 6 dB output drop on voice 1 5. Switching between neck/bridge/both My guess is that the simplest would be to keep using the blade switch that is already installed for pickup selection, use one push pull pot for coil splits, the other one for voice 1 and 2. And wire in separate 2 pole toggle switches for hf tilt and 6dB drop

Very clear...except for all the soldering🤣
@UnquendorGuitars
@UnquendorGuitars 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Simon, I've used the EMG 'solderless' system before. If you have enough room in the control cavity and the holes from cavity to cavity are wide enough to fit the connectors it works beautifully. The only thing that might need soldering is the output jack and the pickup switch. Are you having trouble with the soldering itself? Or on where to connect the wires? The main trick I found with soldering is making sure the soldering iron is hot enough.
@SimonDuffy2
@SimonDuffy2 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your response. I'm very new to this soldering business so whilst I got 90% of my electrics done ok, I made a right mess of one pickup's wiring, gave up and sent it to a professional solderer to sort out. That guitar set up is only a volume, tone and 3 way. How I'll get on with a Firebird's electrics, I have no idea🤣.

Are these the Fishman's with the single coil ability? If so, don't those require a 5-way selector?
@UnquendorGuitars
@UnquendorGuitars 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, Yes they are. And no they don't require a 5-way selector. The only thing the need is a way to connect the 'single coil selection input' to ground. In that case the pickup will operate in Single coil mode. However, there is a possibility on the Fishman pickups to acces the coil connections directly via solder points at the back. Using these you're able to wire them like 'normal' 4 wire pickups and have the additional voice switching if I'm not mistaken. These pickups are so versatile it's almost impossible to list all the possibilities. But long answer made short. No you don't need a 5-way selector. any switch will do.

@UnquendorGuitars 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Devlin, I think I haven't made a detailed video about this, but my other guitar model (the Nessa) has a master Volume and master Tone with 3-way switch using the Fishmann Modern Humbuckers. The way to do this is to use the 'regular' 1 Volume 1 Tone wiring scheme for the 'Pickup/sound part' (Pickups output -->3-way switch --> Volume & Tone pots) . You can use the Push/Pull pots included with the Fishman sets both as volume and tone pot and use these for the voice switching and use any switch for the Hf-Tilt. Both the voice switching and the HF-Tilt can be switched on/off by connecting it to the common ground. Connected to ground = on. Any switch will do the job. Be aware though that some voicings 'overrule' others. (voicing 2 overrules voice 1 etc) keep this in mind when connecting the selection wires to the switches.

Hi Aakaash, You can use the same principal to wire the EMG HET set with the exception of the 'voice switching' . EMG doesn't have that. Also the connectors of these two brands are not compatible. I’m guessing but if your guitar only has 3 pots can you wire them with only that many?
@UnquendorGuitars
@UnquendorGuitars 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. You can use these pickups with ‘any’ number of pots or switching configuration. The supplied pots are suitable to be used as volume or tone pot. You can choose which controls you want as push/pull for the voice switching.

@@UnquendorGuitars Oh Ok AWESOME! Thank You for clearing that up for me. I was always worried that if I got them that I would need to make another whole for another pot. Thank You! I really appearciate it! Next stop purchasing!

I honestly don't get why people struggle with the wiring it's quite simple it is literally labeled on the pickup where to put each wire

Way too complicated for me. I wonder how much it would cost me to pay a professional at a guitar store or shop? Anyone know?

I'm missing your videos cause you changed you thumbnail designs!

Hi Guitars Amps & Pedals, Oh.. no... that's not good... If I may ask you a question for me to learn something. Do you rely on a specific thumbnail style/look to identify a channel or creator? I'm always questioning myself wether or not my thumbnails look good and set my channel apart enough. For these tutorials I thought to change things up a little, but this might have been a wrong decision. Did you prefer the 'old' look?

@@UnquendorGuitars Hi Daniel, I recognised your original thumbnails because they all had the same style of font and your guitars look unique and recognisable. The last 2 are very different looking so I didn't associate them with Unquendor Guitars! I'm not an authority on this stuff but, I have been studying KZbin for a number of years and I have noticed some of the things the successful KZbinrs do all of the time! Your Logo is cool and would have stood out if you'd featured it (Big and bold) in the thumbnail, also, all of the aforementioned YT's use their own image in the thumbnail, (every time, without fail). Your subscribers will click because of you, and then the algorithm will respond to the click through rate (very important otherwise no-one knows your video even exists). The virality of your most viewed video (Morinessa) will tell you how to reach your audience, what they liked and didn't like, and when they got bored, and the thing I see straight away in that thumbnail is your brand. The analytics will tell you the rest! Again I'm no authority but I've spent (far too much) time looking into this. I really like your videos, as I said before they're the best tutorials I've seen since Fletchers. Hope what I've said is useful to you, I admire what you're doing and know how much work goes into making videos and how much it sucks when they don't get watched very much, Matt!

@@MattsGAP Hi Matt, Thank you so much for your elaborate reply and tips. Like most of us here on KZbin I have a hard time getting a grasp on what attracts the viewer to click on a video and watch it. And sometimes the analytics seem to contradict what is frequently talked about in all those "How to improve" videos. A good example is like you said my "Morinessa" video, which is doing great and the "Sonea build" which is not. Both have a similar thumbnail, title and description and that video isn't doing great at all in comparison. I will take your advice to heart and try to maintain as consistent of a Thumbnail 'style' as possible and see where it goes. It is very helpful to hear how you are perceiving my channel. Thank you. Daniel.

@@UnquendorGuitars As far as I can tell there will always be a hit and miss element to it and if you look at any channel they get the same disparity of views. Ben Crowe said something really interesting a while ago about how Diresta appeals to a huge audience because they're universal with no language barrier, I think your Morinessa video has that appeal and so does the Sonea, strange that one out performed the other like that!
