How to wire simple automatic changeover. (ATS)

neutral should not be linked between the two systems - this could give you problems if you have a neutral earth link on the generator as this would mean that when not on generator you would have a 2nd neutral earth link in place in the system which should not happen.

I agree when you using mains-gen changeover but not when using mains-mains.That is why I've put descriptions saying "mains 1" and " mains 2".

@@AboutElectricity indeed with 2 mains supplies you would need to be carefull with the neutral as mixing neutrals from different sources have the same issues that can arise from circulating currents through the neutral earth bonds present on each source, the comment still stands with the mains 1 and mains 2 definitions

Hi. We have the neutral joined from too different mains supplies. I assume this is ok but just wondering about the explanation for this. I am not an electrician. I assume as all neutrals are grounded it does not matter

@@michaelcostello6991 it is ok.Probably those two mains supply come from the same power grid.Different situation is when we have one mains and one generator.

Great video and tutorial. However the system above does not seem to give priority to any of the supplies M1 & M2 ( it leaves the matter to response (switching speeds) of the relays) and in a real practical set up this would not be desirable. Ideally one of the supplies either M1 & M2 should be given priority ie should both be present it should be clear which one runs the show. Otherwise great tutorial

If both supply available which con close

If booth supply available at exactly the same time then they will turn on randomly.But if you turn supply no.1 and then supply no.2 the supply no. 1 will stay on.
