So I'm doing the mechanical push button and momentary key switch with the relay, and when going from the battery should i have a fuse like you showed in wiring the chopper, if i do, do i put that fuse with the battery going to the battery terminal on that fuse and the other terminal, the aux side, i connect the 30 relay wire and connect on the same terminal going to the key switch, battery terminal, I'm starting to piss people off with a brunt rubber smell, from me thinking about this, can you clarify how I should wire it with a fuse or not?

I appreciate the video but I had to look around to confirm something. If your Harley starter has the little wire AND the larger gauge wire, then you DON’T need to run a relay. The little wire leads to a solenoid in the starter that acts as a relay. Adding a relay in between that is redundant. The larger gauge wire handles the cranking load and the smaller wire only actuates the solenoid. That’s why so many people run without a relay and don’t have issues. You DO however, need a relay if your starter does not have a built in solenoid. Still a great video and guide, but i hope this clears confusion.

I run from the on switch to a starter button and then a Kill Button but between the tanks I open the stach Box and flip the power switch and another hidden starter Button.

Where is the 4 gauge wire in this diagram? Does it run straight to the battery and a second (16 gauge) wire to the relay & key switch? Also what is the best way to form the “y”? Thanks
@greasesgarage7 ай бұрын
4 gauge wire runs from the battery negative terminal to frame ground and also from the battery positive to the starter motor. To form the Y the best way is to solder the joint. Strip all wires back 1/4-1/2”, twist them tight individually. Then I twist the two together first before twisting the bottom of the Y onto those two. Once they’re twisted tight, add some solder and some shrink wrap

I do not use a bank angle sensor or a kickstand sensor so you’ll want to start by checking those to ensure they’re not acting as kill switches
@Vincent139978 ай бұрын
I thought the purpose of the starter solenoid was to isolate the low amperage from the high amperage required to spin the starter? The starter solenoid does not pull full cca from the battery when engaged. It’s still smart to use a relay, which adds further protection, but as stated, most choppers don’t use them anyway.

One the key switch/relay configuration where does the 4g wire from the positive battery terminal configure into the drawing? Part 1 shows it direct from the positive terminal. 16 g wire from positive terminal to B terminal on switch and to 30 on relay. 16g from starter to 87. 16g from S terminal on switch to 86. No mention of 4g wire in Part 2
@greasesgarage Жыл бұрын
Run the wires exactly as you saw them in part 1. From the battery positive to the fuse block, and out to the various circuits. When it’s time to add the starter circuit, the relay and switch will go on each end of an additional wire that Y’s out from the battery positive terminal. Your starter motor will also go direct to the battery positive terminal. It will be 3 wires going to it
@johnstalnaker8807 Жыл бұрын
I think I got it now. The only wire that is 4g is the wire from the battery positive to starter. All the relay wiring is 16g@@greasesgarage

The only part which is not fully correct is that the full number of CCA is not going via the relay, this goes through the 4 gauge. The relay is just for the low amp switch wire to the starter

I do not understand, my starter has two + terminals, one carries the starter load the other is the trigger solenoid, which terminal are you going to, if it's the load side it would supply power but not throw the benix out, if it's the trigger it would close the starter circuit but no power to starter.
