I love this! Any excuse to get out the torch and burn some wood. A couple tips. When cutting the 2x2 lumber, use a stop block on the miter saw for perfect depth of cut every time. Alternate between 90-degree cuts and non-90-degree cuts. For sanding the chunks, use a belt/disc sander. Super fast. Colored stain applied with a rag would be much less expensive than spray paint. Titebond should bond the pieces to the mdf without requiring nails, but better safe than sorry. You can cut the time way down from 14 hours. For a day's work, you could make and sell these for around $400. Sell one a month and that's a nice car payment, or go one a couple great vacations for your efforts. These are excellent acoustic dpanels for musicians and podcasters.

You’re a funny guy Mr. Turner. I’ve been roped into making one of these because we didn't want to pay $1000 for $30 bucks worth of wood. I wasn’t sure if I was planning how to make this thing correctly, but this video has confirmed my genius (and yours).

I have made a piece like this and it was interesting to watch your approach. After rocking my saw back an forth for quite a while the way you did, my wife suggested ripping the stock down the middle at an angle and then just cutting them all to width - so much better! Funny - my verdict after making one of these was the same as yours: "Probably won't ever do that again" :) Cool video - now I'm inspired to find the footage of when I made that piece and put together a video, too. Thanks!

I had the same thought you had about in remaking a similar wood wall art. Being a complete amateur, it's good to see what steps that others with more experience might do the same/differently. I laughed when I watched you attach the sander to the sawhorse because I did the exact same after sanding about 30 of those blocks manually. I'm guessing you knew better to hold a firm grip because I didn't see any fly across the room like many of mine. HA. But I slightly cringed when I watch you turn the board over after gluing the pieces down because I expected them to fall off. I waited a full 24 hours before picking up the board and realized the glue was strong enough so I ended up not nailing, saving a good bit of time. Your art piece looks awesome!
