I have just passed my road test today in newyork.... i spent almost the whole night watching your videos. suprisingly I parallel parked very well yet it was my weakest of all. I wasnt nervous, whenever i was making a turn, i could hear your voice saying mirror, signal, shouldercheck, mirror,,, am so happy. my first road test i failed because i was so nervous, i hit the curb, the instructor had use his breaks too. Dr. Rick August: Many salutations! You said that you rented a 2017 Nissan Murano for the purposes of that video; I rented a 2019 Kia Optima. I think that it would be nice to do another version of this video with a 2019 model vehicle to keep up with the times; still, your explanation of the secondary controls is definitely of insight. I just want to drop by and say that you are the reason that I taught myself to drive at night. My bio dad did not even really want to train me as an adolescent and the first driving instructor that I had as an adult soon lost confidence in me to where I sought out another driving school where the lessons were of both greater length and expense; still, I did learn a lot from that. I am still upset that it cost me north of $400 because my bio-dad did not want to do his damn job and lacked a backbone to stalemate all the xenophobia that is now practiced toward me. In any case, you are more of a dad to me because you were the only one who taught how to drive at night. When I become a dad and my kids get to that age where I can legally have them assume the helm, I will make certain that all of their lessons are at night and in a stickshift vehicle so that they have a greater sense of ownership. "It has to be at night to be right" and "It has to be raining if it is to be training" are definitely principles I am going to practice as a nuclear family leader . . . if I can get there before I get too old . . .

Hello, Rick please grab your popcorn this conversation may take awhile. I have a few videos Ideas that I have trouble with and I'm sure others do too... But first thing first I'm enjoying my driver license so far I was asking my family about why don't I know how to do things you and others drivers know they said because I'm not experienced I thought I had my Driver License for about 4 months but found out it' only 2 months once July comes but here go the videos *Get to know you videos* 1. Tell us how you learned (omg I can't wait if you do this) 2. You did the best "What to do in a car wreck" could you do how to jump start a car or change a flat if car maintenance, not your channel thing don't stress it you're the best youtube regardless *Learning to Drive video* 1. How to go around a corner ( I haven't told my parents but once I was going around a bend which the speed advisor said 40mph it was a perfect day and it's a corner build for higher speeds but I know how I do with bends so I went 30mph and almost lost it I crossed the yellow line a little but I was not like losing control when I practice with my dad or mom they all say I turn the wheel too late but I feel like if I turn sooner like they recommend I will end up in the shoulder please make a video I will do anything you recommend or my parents ) 2. How to scan the road and drive ok I did this perfect on the road test but I can seem to ever do it when I try to look in my mirrors shoulder check etc I step on the lines sometimes almost head-on crash 3. I don't know if you can do this because it may not rain anytime soon How to drive in rain 4. How to backup in a drive away and how to back out of driveway 5.How to navigate with a GPS and drive Thank you for reading this long post 1 and 2 is most wanted I'm really bad at scanning and corners

Hello. It is quite off the topic but, how to react when wide-transportation is coming from opposite direction like portable houses or wind-turbines? Especially in highways. Yesterday, I met with such incident. Just got driving licence 3 months ago and a car a month ago so it was my first time in highways. Luckily, nothing bad happend. I managed to control speed and put car in rightmost side. What could be the best decision to take?

Does that pedal parking brake apply pressure as you push down (kinda like the normal brake), before it locks into place? Or is it more like an "On/off" switch? I know the parking brake via handle, in the car I use, works by applying more braking force the further up the handle was.

Hi bricks for wheels - the hand and the pedal work the same. The more you push on the pedal or pull up on the handle, the more pressure is applied to the rear brakes of the vehicle - this is why stunt drivers apply the parking brake to kick the back end of the vehicle out. There isn't any method for perfection as there are too many factors such as: the vehicle you're driving; how tall you are, your depth perception; where you're trying to back; light conditions to name a few. There isn't anything wrong with the vehicle--technically--however, it is easy for an examiner to say that s/he will deny you a road test because his/her safety may be compromised. Hi mcdonkey500 - Thank you for your reply. Your driving instructor is not the driving examiner. I've seen driving examiners deny a road test because there wasn't a license plate on the front of the vehicle owing to the fact that the vehicle was from out-of-state. It may not be an issue; however, I'd hate to see you denied because the ABS light was on. Keep in mind that driving examiners can be fickle. I would counsel you to go to the test centre where you're going to take your test and ask them there - speak to a manager if you can and if s/he says yes it's fine, send that to you in an email and bring it with you on the day of your road test in case there's an issue. Hi Katie Swan - RPM stands for Revolutions per minute. It's how fast your engine is turning when you step on the accelerator. You want to keep it out of the red zone, which is usually the top 2,000 rpms. All the best, Cheers Rick

My road test was 10 minutes and I only failed at the part where mark lanes cause when I turn I ended up on the far side of the lane instead of the closest lane and even though I try to fix it by doing a lane change I still fail regardless
