#Brambleon
Brambleberry has not yet let me down with their descriptions on their website. It was clear in their description that this fragrance will rice in cold process soap. Usually I try to avoid fragrances that are known to misbehave in soap, but during my quest to find a pearberry fragrance, I felt like this was my best option. I needed to test this out to see what designs I could achieve even with the ricing.
Bramblebberry does not recommend using this in CP soap, but it is safe to use in CP soap according to the IFRA report.

This video is NOT designed for kids. Soap is made using lye which is caustic until after the saponification process in which no lye remains. Children/kids should NOT attempt this, and adults need to exercise safety precautions. This video is not a full tutorial.

I learned so much by stepping out of my comfort zone and just going for it with these tests. This was a lot of fun to do, and this is one of my all-time favorite scents. I hope this is helpful to others as well.

When I first starting out soaping, wondering why you couldn’t add the fragrances to the oils was a question a frequently had that no one seemed to know the answer to. Turns out you totally can add fragrances to the oils, an easier and simpler process that I still don’t understand why more people don’t do.

At least they were honest about the FO! I have a fragrance that rices like this one does, I just work it into my design, which means it's a layered soap. But I just love the scent so much it doesn't bother me. I'll have to try adding it to my oils first to see if it helps! You definitely handled yourself well with making this soap,I might have thrown it in my crock pot. You can get some really cheap ones at the thrift store to use add dedicated soaping ones btw. Great job tho, and the final product turned out beautifully! Nicely done!

Thank you! I do need to look into getting an inexpensive crock pot. I'd love to try HP one day. And yes, I love how Brambleberry's site has been spot on with the FO behaviors with everything I've tried so far, and I do love this scent 😍. I think with my watermelon soap, I still will add the FO to each layer so I have time to work with it, and it doesn't rice near this much. Different designs definitely call for different techniques. Thanks so much again! 🥰

Turned out good! I’ve heard that if an FO rices but doesn’t accelerate you can leave it alone for 15 minutes and then blend and it turns out fine. I haven’t tested this theory yet.

Mystic Maiden Soap thank you! 😍 I've heard that too. They say to wait and let it go into gel phase. I keep my water content low and didn't know if that might prevent it from working in this case. However, adding the FO to the oils prevents ricing which to me is way easier than working with ricing after it occurs.

I hope it helps 🥰. I still recommend making a test batch to see if this works for you. There's so many variables with soaping that it wouldn't surprise me if this didn't work in every situation. If this doesn't work for you, hot processing is the way to go. With HP, you add your fragrance after the soap has cooked, and so there's no ricing, seizing, or acceleration.

This looks brilliant, thank you. I have a great smelling fo that rices, I can try and use it now 🤗 What temperature was your oils at when you added the lye? I’ve tried freezing the frame but I can’t read it 🤔
@JandWSoaps
@JandWSoaps 2 жыл бұрын
They were 118F on the oils and 106F on the lye. Soaping at room temp may help even more. I do know that some soapers say this didn't work for them to avoid ricing. Maybe the fragrance and recipe play a role in it too. It couldn't hurt to make a test yourself and see how it goes. 😃

JandWSoaps I have a question for you. When you put your cold process soap mold in the oven do you preheat it or is oven completely off? Could I leave mine in non heated microwave instead just to create a insulated environment? I didnt know we could soap at low temps like 95 degrees for oils and 79 degrees for lye solution. Thank you for the great video!
@JandWSoaps
@JandWSoaps Жыл бұрын
I preheat my oven and turn it off. Then I leave the light on. So it’s warm, and the light keeps in warm too. Your recipe, additives, water content, and more can all play a role in how long your soap stays in gel phase. The microwave may be sufficient, or you might be able to just wrap it in towels, or a styrofoam cooler is a popular go-to for some. Some batches don’t need any help achieving gel, such as 100% coconut oil soap. The ten degree myth is one of which we don’t know the origin. Glad this was helpful for you. 😃.

What temp do you preheat your oven? Do you masterbatch your lye solution? Is that why your lye solution is so low in temperature?
@JandWSoaps
@JandWSoaps Жыл бұрын
@@aras5063 I preheat my oven to 170F. I don’t masterbatch, but I often make lye for my batches a day or more in advance. Sometimes I’ll use ice for some of the water too if I’m in a hurry. That way it cools a bit faster.
@aras5063
@aras5063 Жыл бұрын
So the lye mixed with ice will stay at temp 79 degrees because you prepared it a day in advance? Do you ever have to heat up your lye solution or worried it will drop to low of a temp? That must save a lot of time prepping and using ice 👍
@JandWSoaps
@JandWSoaps Жыл бұрын
@@aras5063 it will still heat up with ice, but it won’t get nearly as hot. It will usually get higher than 79F even with some ice. Then it can come back down closer to room temp in a shorter amount of time. It also produces less fumes with ice, but I have had issues with it dissolving completely if I use all ice for my lye water. Since it was 79F, I probably didn’t prep this one a full day in advance, or it might’ve been closer to 70F-75F. I never warm my lye solution back up. It works just fine for me at these temperatures. 😃
