I completely understand how you feel about someone coming into your home on a daily basis can be so stressful. Even though they are there at your request doing something that will benefit you and your home. It's like having your sacred space invaded and it does make you feel vulnerable. It's taxing on your mental health. I have followed the whole process with you and it turned out spectacular!

I have watched all the videos. Thank you for showing the renovation as it was happening. Your design and the workmen all were great. This kitchen is a dream kitchen. Great job. Can't wait for the bonus video. Thank you for all you do .

I felt most of your pains! We did a kitchen remodel 3 years ago but I wasn't expecting a baby! We had many hiccups along the way! Covid was one of them! I had quite a few issues with the contractor not meeting my standard of detail. I really could go on and on but in the end I was saying what you were saying, quote "I'll take care of that". I am an introvert by nature and an extrovert when I need to be. The social side was leaving me depleted at the end of the reno. I was tired of the mess, tired of the noise, tired of having to deal with issues that only I could address being the designer. I just wanted the project finished so I could get back to my peaceful space again. I loved your podcast! I love your finished kitchen! And I loved that you were kind enough to explain a delay in the release of a vlog when you didn't need to! ❤

If you haven’t already thought about getting your whole house duct system cleaned! You should. You wouldn’t believe how bad they get when you’ve undergone a renovation.

I'm glad you could re-do your kitchen and all that, but I was so confused -- did you expand your countertop space? it looks like you have the same amount of sq footage on the countertops so no extra room near the stove to food prep and cook etc. but if the number is more than the visual I get it. I just was suprised I thought thered be way more countertop space.

I’m an introvert too. There was a tradesman working in my kids’ bathroom that was so chatty, I didn’t hire them back for my primary bath reno. Too exhausting. Totally understand what you mean being “on” everyday. Also hated having to put on a bra for so long everyday. 😂

Thanks Macenna, very interesting. I have a lot of experience with contractors, being in the process of having a house built…tilers , builders, carpenters. Plumbers, electricians… I have learned ,like you that we need to be extremely explicit about both what we want and don’t want. Visuals, checking measurements, reaffirming, being present to check what they’re doing. Asking open, non- jugemental questions like «so how will you hide the screws? Show you’re interested. We were si lucky as our contractors were very professional. We paid a flat rate negotiated in advance for X work completed so it was in their interest to get the job done, even if they were doing several jobs at the same time and sometimes didn’t turn up when we thought.

Regarding your budget draws- Did you deduct retainage from each draw/invoice amount for those progress payments, making up the balance in the final payment after the punch list was cleared?

You know! I was thinking about what you said “you’re being an introvert.” I wonder if you would entertain the idea, that maybe you are the opposite of an introvert. Renovations are definitely stressful for both introvert and extroverts, but for different reasons. The extrovert’s loss of control is very devastating , and handing over control is a major challenge to an extrovert. On the other hand, Introverts are internal thinkers who love safe spaces, so you don’t remind me of someone who is fearful of exposing your feelings, or afraid to be transparent. Just something to consider. I think you are brave and very confident.

FYI: The definition of introverts and extroverts is this - introverts recover their energy by being alone and need a lot of alone time; extroverts recover their energy by being with people. What you describe are nuances within both extroverts and introverts. For example, I am definitely an introvert (practically a hermit!), yet as a Virgo, I also need control over certain situations. That doesn't apply exclusively to extroverts.

That part about women needing to bring up concerns matter of fact style and level headed is so real. I think some women have a hard time detaching themselves from the emotional part of their rationale and switching into the logistical and analytical type of personality-typical in men. That is such good, practical advise . If someone disagrees , then it is likely that they are ‘that’ women 😬

It burned her out. She's fully entitled to never go back. I don't think that will be the case, but if it was that's fine. People nagging for it on every single video that has nothing to do with the cottage isn't going to make her wanna go back to working on it. 😂 it's just gonna bring back the feeling of burnout when even thinking about it.
