"This video is not about using our products." It just so happens to be that we have the best sounding drums in the horror genre lol. I had no choice but to buy today. Great video.

This is cool, look forward to seeing more. Great to see Neil's an ex-metal band musician, nice! (Edit: Not just any band, Annihilator! Damn! That's awesome!) Inspiring to hear how about his journey and how it led to Heavyocity. That studio is amazing. Love Heavyocity, started with Evolve and Damage which blew me away when first released. Now have almost all of your products and will be using them a lot in the next 12 months.

If you're doing both music and sound design, I recommend using two daws unless noted otherwise. If you're working in Reaper, it's good for both music and sound design (I'd use it for game sound design). If you're working in DP, it's usually better to use a separate program for sound design (Pro Tools) unless the cue uses sound design techniques.

Fantastic trailer piece and video from Neil at Heavyocity. And great insight into its construction. Heavyocity's products are incredibly high quality and they are beautifully showcased here, but doesn't feel like a hard sell at all. Love the sound design and custom percussion work, not just using loops. Outstanding work and video showcasing it. Are those Dynaudio monitors and Sennheiser HD600 headphones?
@Heavyocitymedia6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words Benjamin! Really appreciate it! The monitors are ATC's, and the headphones are the Sennheiser HD650's. Both of which we LOVE.

Hi Neil, awesome video! I recently picked up a set of SCM45A's like you have (they're amazing) and similarly to you have to have them on the desk riser... I'm concerned they might be too close to me for such big monitors? Just wondered how you got along with them in that position? Cheers :-)
@Heavyocitymedia6 жыл бұрын
Hey Craig, thanks for writing in! So, we actually placed them at least a foot away from the wall and the measurements were totaled to help minimize standing waves. We also have the tweeters in an equilateral triangle to our listening position so that when mixing we are in the most ideal spot. Although the monitors are large, they are considered midfield monitors ideal for “critical near field listening” so they work well as a mid/near speaker. Hope that answers your question!
@molem3486 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to reply Neil, appreciate the info and confirming they work well at that range. Since I left the comment I've mixed a couple of pieces and had great results so really happy with these beasts! Looking forward to more videos from you.... Cheers!

I'm a little confused. Why do you need to bounce that Gravity riser to audio to use the "Punish" knob? Can't you just automate Gravity's punish knob? Am I missing something?
@Heavyocitymedia6 жыл бұрын
Hey Eric, thanks for writing in! You have a great question...it's actually because our PUNISH effect was inspired by the PUNISH knob in our instruments, but it's actually not identical. PUNISH (the standalone FX plugin) is really a bigger, beefier, and more-tweakable version of the effect that we created in our instruments, with multiple compression and saturation models, transient shaping, EQ, and limiting. Hope that helps clarify for you! Cheers!

What scale or mode has: E, F, G, A, B flat, C#, D??
@Heavyocitymedia4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's not really in any particular key, I used some melody motifs against some atonal beds and textures to make it sound more unnerving. I'm sorta breaking traditional theory rules here, mixing music with sound design, creating tension and energy that just felt unsettling to satisfy the vibe that was needed. -Best, Neil

Do another one where you write a full orchestral Star Wars action cue, because that's where I need help hitting deadlines. ;} Nicely done, but sort of depressing because this type of "wallpaper music"Is the direction that a lot of media is going. I dig all the cool production and stuff, but it would be great if us composers could actually write music instead of dramatic sound design. Again, not bashing your products or what you are doing with these videos, I'm just bashing the entire entertainment industry ;}
