Neil! Thank you so much for doing the 2-hour cues! I am thoroughly enjoying the breakdown and seeing how the midi programming is done. It's very helpful to see how others do MIDI especially when it comes to orchestration. My music work are very cinematic in nature and I use something by heavyocity in every piece. You would hear that on my KZbin channel. LoL. I have many of the heavyocity instruments and absolutely love them! I do look forward to getting the full Novo string suite at some point. Also, thank you for showing in the video how the up and down bowing changes when playing the spitzacatto with the strings. How did you program in the double bowing on certain parts of the cello spitzacatto? That would be cool to see. In Pro Tools I have tried it using step input, but it usually doesn't sound very authentic and you don't get variation on the velocity unless you go in and edit it manually. Thanks again look forward to the next one!

I learned a lot here. Thank you. Writing something like this in 2 hours is pretty amazing. As a novice, I get writers block all the time. But seeing these kinds of videos really help me. I own a bunch of Heavyocity products and they have the best interface out there. I hope you guys create some kind of sampler library where users can import their own sounds and combine it with the Heavyocity engine.

I continue to very much enjoy this series. And it often makes me want to go back and look at my Heavyocity libraries for things I might have missed ... for example, I had no idea there was any gong somewhere in Evolve, let alone such an aggressive one, so now I have to go looking for that. :)

lol waffle on Neil. It is super interesting to watch how you use your products. I have also used just one brand of libraries for projects as I think it forces you to dive a bit deeper into them to get the sounds you're looking to achieve.

Great cue, Neil, it definitely gives that epic, superhero vibe , well done, looking forward to seeing more! I wanted to ask you a couple of things: what makes you prefer automating CC7, as opposed to CC11? And, since you mentioned realism, what was the reason of having violins, violas and celli playing a 3-part divisi, in the B section? That would normally result in a very quiet volume, which one would boost at the mixing stage, of course. Also, I was thinking that such a divisi is very, very uncommon. However, at the end of the day, if it sounds good, it is good!
@Heavyocitymedia5 жыл бұрын
Hi Marco! First off thank you for the kind words. I automated both 11 and 7 I liked the sound of the mid articulations so I used small cc 11 automation then added cc7 (volume) to help it “speak” more expressively. Just my unconventional was of doing it 🤓.yes basically it sounded good to me so I just went with it, sometimes you just have to break the rules and if you are happy with the result then do it.👍🏼
@MusicalWizardryMarcoIannello5 жыл бұрын
@@Heavyocitymedia thank you for your reply, Neil! I asked about CC11 because that CC lane does not appear in your MIDI editor, therefore I mistakenly assumed you were not using it, instead using CC7 in its place. Totally agree with breaking the rules, sir, I do that all the time (mostly because I have no idea what I am doing, you see)!

Great video and great track. I'm surprised to see how much you use CC7. I almost never use it (not in the sculpting way you do). Also I see you have a rack ooutput for every section instead of every midi. I'll try it :)

Neil Thanks !! Could I ask you about your Cubase settings/Machine Info. My 2018 Mac Mini 64GB 6 Core just seems underpowered. Idles at 50+ real time at 128 samples with very few VSL instances
@Heavyocitymedia5 жыл бұрын
Sure! Here's a rundown of what I'm working with: we recently switched our main three mix rooms to 14 core i9 PC's with 64gb of ram all SSD drives. I prefer using VE Pro with Cubase 10. While I can run far more instances of Kontakt directly in Cubase than I could with my Mac, I find that I have a huge amount of processor headroom when using VEP. I'm leaning towards mostly UAD plug-ins now, as we have a number of PCI-e slots for the processor cards. That takes more load off the PC processors too. I usually run at 128 buffer while recording, and may switch to 256 when mixing, if needed. Thanks for checking out this latest ep of 2 Hour Cues! Best, Neil

Neil, what about the "two hours" part? Some of us can do a similar queue, but it might take 6 or 8 hours. What was the key to doing it rapidly?
@Heavyocitymedia5 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, thanks for the question! As I’ve mentioned at the start of a few of the shows, I spend about 2 hours (sometimes more) sketching out the idea, then I’ll spend more time “orchestrating” and filling in the parts. I am not a super hero, lol 🙂 The first episode of 2 Hour Cues was mostly sound design/ambient, which was done very quickly. As viewers started asking for more-orchestrated pieces, it started taking longer. Thanks for watching!

...again, these are excellent tutorials however, if you could show the actual instrument being used when talking about it and playing the demonstration, it would be so helpful. Starting off, you showed and shared those instruments, but as the video progressed, I guess it was forgotten (smiles). Because as we purchase these libraries, there are so many sounds a d presents to use, we'll spend tons of time searching for the sound you're using, only when attempting to recreate a palette of your cue... Nonetheless, excellent video.
