I'm back after watching this video two years ago... I just wanted to say that this was the video that really inspired me to start writing pop songs. About a year ago I started a KZbin channel for songwriters, and now I can't imagine what my life would be like if I didn't write songs. So thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything, you deserve the world 💗

Cracking lesson. So much written on this but seeing you do it is a hundred times better. The outcome sounds fabulous - as you say it’s hard to unlearn songs or melodies you’ve heard, so snippets sound familiar. Btw you have a lovely voice - increase the mix so it comes through. Just subscribed.

This whole video is amazing, beginning to end. And the song turned out incredible. Awesome job! I've been thinking of giving this exercise a try and that's why I landed on your video. It seems the two alternative ways of composing are: pick chords, create melody, and then fit lyrics to it, or start with lyrics and fit chords+melody to it. Do you find one way particularly harder than the other? After watching the Rocket Man movie, it seems Elton John likes to do it the second way.
@MrMd55553 жыл бұрын
The second (Elton/bernie way) [lyrics first] seems so difficult & foreign to me but also intriguing since it's kinda human nature that we tend to work more on things we're comfortable with instead of things that come with difficulty. Anyways just adding my .02 since the question you asked has always interested me musically
@TallysYunes3 жыл бұрын
@@MrMd5555 Thank you for your point of view. I tend to agree with you. I feel like I can sit at the piano and sort of improvise a (simple) random melody (not related to any lyrics). Then adding chords to that wouldn't be too hard (a matter of looking at melody notes and picking chords with those notes). But being handed a piece of paper, reading it, and a few minutes (or hours) later "magically" hearing those words sung feels very foreign. I guess there's no single right/wrong way and I'm sure some musicians do it the first way. Maybe I should try both and see what happens :-)
