So now that we’re in this covid age and a lot of people are working virtually from everywhere, probably not worth it to send hand written notes to people, right? Like what if someone in the company you wanna send a note to lives in a city 4 hours away from you haha. And we’re coming up on the holiday season so slow shipping rates

Just wanted to say thank you for all your assistance. I followed your resume recommendations, your networking recommendations, the cover letter, the thank you letter approach including the mailed card, the interview questions, the one sentence describing who I am, and your salary negotiation. Essentially I followed many of your techniques and I have to say they worked! I got a job and in a completely different industry after working in one industry for 20 years. I started following and watching your videos about a month ago. Before that I had already been out of work because of Covid for six months. I am also over 50. I started getting more interviews and calls when I applied your tips. I definitely think everything helped. Thank you again for your dedication and all that you do.

Thank you for your video Andrew, it really helps a lot. Can I ask if it applies to phone interviews too? The one before the actual face to face interview. I want to thank her the phone interview as well, but I am not sure if I need to put the second part, when I tell them why I am the perfect match... Isn't that too early to describe? Is the "Thank you for your time for the phone interview" enough? Thank you, Gabor

@andylacivita

Ask the recruiter for the other peoples emails and let the recruiter know you’d like to send them thank you messages and you’d be happy to copy the recruiter on all the emails you send. If the recruiter will not give you those email addresses, send the recruiter however many emails you need to And ask the recruiter to forward every persons to them directly.

Andy, thank you for the video. I was wondering for a job interview, (financial industry) would you use a thank you Card or Letter after the interview? I was planning to use a letter, but you mentioned card in your video. Thanks
@andylacivita
@andylacivita 7 жыл бұрын
Keith Clark great question. 2 points. The most important thing is that you send SOMETHING. I like an email and then a thank you card. The email is nice because it's fast and you can structure it like I mentioned. The thank card can be a little more free form. The thing I like about the card is that it's sturdy and odd sized. People tend to leave them on their desks for a bit. With a letter (I'm assuming you meant 8x11), they get opened and thrown in a pile and buried or tossed. Of course, they can do that with a card, but it's more likely they keep it for a while (especially if you did well in the interview). Hope that helps and good luck on the interview!!
@keithclark1875
@keithclark1875 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, I was referring to 8.5x11. Additionally, knowing the company's style. I plan to "Hand write" the letter or card. I think it's important for someone seeking a career to find out what the company expects during the process as well. Again, thank you for taking the time to create videos for everyone to learn. Have a great day.

Hi Please do advise that it's been 2 weeks. Since I got informed on selection by HR and I was told to send soft copies of documents required. There was a batch started and one is about to start based on information I collected from consultants. On a positive mode, I got informed only by consultants upon follow ups that I get a call on salary discussion from hr . But not yet until the day. Can you advice the reason. Now I wish to send a thank you note beside to get to know about my hire.

Do you have any updated recommendations in the time of Co-Vid? Many of the companies I am applying to are (still) working remotely. Do I still send a card to the office address even though it may not be received for days, weeks, months, ever?
@andylacivita

It's not easy because today some organization just use a "no-reply mailbox" to contact with interviewees. That make interviewees don't know how can they send a thank you letter. And in some cases, interviewers make up their mind about who is slelected right at the end of interview, so sending it may not help much in gaining potential percentage of being hired.
@elizabethchesney248

Hi Andrew! I noticed that when I mailed thank you letters to my two previous interviewers, they both kept the letter with my resume. (I saw it when I went in for the second interview). I feel like a PDF is easier for them to print and share with the second (more important) interviewer. Does it matter if the letter is in the email or is it helpful to include a PDF of the letter also?
@andylacivita
@andylacivita 7 жыл бұрын
Elizabeth! Thanks for watch and that's a great question! Think first about what's most important (speed and thoughtfulness and their ability to capture and circulate). It's easier if they get an email (which they will also automatically file in their ATS system) and they can print that as well. I'd also send a card (as opposed to a pDF). That's adds real power and extra effort. It's a cool thing that you noticed they put your thank yous in the folder, but trust me when I tell you the second rounders are more focused on the upcoming interview. The fact that you sent the thank you is good enough. The MOST IMPORTANT factor on the thank you is the CONTENT!!!!

What if you only have the email from the one that sent you the invitation to the interview but not the interviewer himself ?
@andylacivita
@andylacivita 7 жыл бұрын
Richard. Here's the best way. 1) when you go to the interviews, always ask if you can get their email address 2) if you don't get them from everyone, make sure the get the HR person or recruiter's address because you can email them and ask for everyone's email address. 3) if you don't have HR's email, send a message to the person's who was your main contact and ask them. 4) if they don't respond, send the person whose email you do have a separate message for each interviewer and ask the person to forward those emails to the individual people. this way you are covered!

In the school district I am applying for and interviewing with, I am not allowed to solicit through email to the principals. Wouldn't that second line be considered solicitation? This portion of job hunting feels so artificial & unnecessary. Everyone is busy & at this junction I’ve already expressed authentic gratitude. It feels a lot like kissing ass & stroking egos to keep reaching out without invitation than a real thank you piled on to one I already gave more than once. I say thank you for your time (and I mean it) at the end of any interview. It feels creepy to track down an email address or show up (uninvited) in person to drop off a note. I don’t know the people I interviewed with.

@@andylacivita Most times when you get a phone interview you don't get the person's e-mail, even if you ask, they don't want to give it to you. And the phones, if you call the phone number that appears on the screen it doesn't work. Also, do you write the same things in the card as in the e.mail? Do you have a personal stationary?

Great suggestions Andy. The time lag between the final interviews and the offer letter is in range of 10-20 days. Will a thank you card convey to the employer that candidate will accept the offer no matter what the offer is and will have an impact on salary negotiation

Thanks for your ongoing effort. I greatly appreciate you and the techniques you have presented. I do have a question. I'm struggling what to write on a that k you card. Today I had a interview, so I'd like to put a thank you card in the email but I'm perplexed what to put on it. Should I mirror the emails? Say the same things with less words? I just need some clarification and maybe an example if possible.

Is it OK if I write a handwritten letter and send it by mail.. or it must be typed one.
@andylacivita
@andylacivita 7 жыл бұрын
Actually, speed and thoughtfulness are both important. I recommend sending an email thank-you within 24 hours of your interview. To show more style and thoughtfulness, mail a handwritten card as well. The email will get to them soon and the snail mail a few days or a week later. :) They will love you for sending a card because unfortunately very few people do that anymore.

Hey Justin, great question. On the thank you email, it's always best to get the interviewer's business card during the interview. If they don't have one, ask for their email address. If they don't provide it, get it from HR or the recruiter. If they won't give it to you, send the thank you to the recruiter and ask them to forward it on!

Hello Andrew, my name is Bhavik and I am a fresh graduate. I had an interview with an HR about three weeks ago and shortly after, I had a "Panel" interview over the phone that consisted of hiring manager, senior analyst, analyst and interns working in the same team followed by an excel exam. It was exactly a week ago and I still haven't heard back from them. Should I follow up witht the HR or the Hiring Manager? I know it's a little complicated situation but I'll really appreciate if you could give me your take on this. Thanks!

Hello Andy thanks for the excellent advice! In a two-phased recruitment process (first interview with the HR and if the candidate is approved, a second interview will happen with the manager) do you think this thank you letter can be sent to the person of the HR who interviewed the candidate? Or only to the manager, in that second phase? The thing is, I want to impress the HR right now but if I'm approved, I want to impress the manager too. So should I send this letter to the HR, or be patient, hope to be selected for the second interview, and only send it to the manager? thank you once again!

I already sent an email within 24 hours of first interview and followed that up with a handwritten note (several weeks ago). Now I have completed the second interview. Is just an email appropriate here? Should I offer to send any supplemental docs in regard to my strategic plan that I briefly outlined for the committee, or should I hold back on sharing too much info since I don’t have an offer yet? I’m currently employed by a direct competitor.

Matt. On the early rounds it’s okay to send an email. In later rounds you can send the handwritten cards. If you already sent them that’s okay. You can send them or not depending on your connection with the interviewers. On your second question, I wouldn’t send any supplemental documentation on till it was requested. Good luck!

Just curious - for my interview I prepared a tip sheet of how I'd engage with the team's various clients. Somehow I missed mentioning this during the interview. In your opinion would it be too much to add it as an attachment to a thank you note (there were 15 points), or mention in the thank you letter something like "After our discussion, I am keenly interested to meet you and the team again for the next round of interviews. In fact, I have created a tip sheet of various approaches I would use to engage various clients. I'd be more than happy to share this in detail with you during our next conversation." That seems long. What do you think?

I would suggest contacting the HR or recruiter who helped handle your interview process and ask them. If you can't reach them, simply put the person's name at the top, their company name underneath, and the company address below that. It will usually find them if you have their name and their company name. If there are multiple office locations, I would call the headquarters and speak with the operator and mention you'd like to mail something to the person. Just give them the name and ask which location!
