I’m a screenwriter. Been doing it for years. I’m adapting my stories into comic/manga. When writing a story I feel like screenwriting is the way to go. This is just my tip and everyone is different but there are spec scripts and shooting scripts. Spec script is a very basic version of screenwriting where you focus on the story. In the action you write a basic description of what’s going on, then characters, and finally dialogue. I find it very efficient because your laying your story out and it’s like your visualizing your story as if it were animated. Then when it’s time to write the comic script that story is ready to go. Now all you need to do is focus on the details for the panels, and copy and paste the dialogue. During this process I end up changing the dialogue, and story slightly. Once my comic script is finished I go back to the original screenplay and edit it to match the the comic script because I want to adapt my shit into an animation one day lol. Also if you want someone to just read your story for an opinion, they won’t see all the details your going to have for each panel... they will be able to visually it in there mind. Screenwriting is very simple and I think writers should learn how to do it. It’s so much fun!

Do you have any tips for screenwriting for someone who isn't going to draw their manga? My partner has a story he wants to bring to life, he's more of a writer than an artist. And I'm the artist. I'm not experienced in writing, so I don't know how to help him. And as you can tell, without an outline, it's hard to start bringing it to life.

Is the dialogue in manga script similar to that in novel? or some type of conversion need to take place when converting novel into manga. One more thing you haven't answered to my replay on pervious video regard the volume size do you think that is good, less or more pages need to be added?
@midnightXcross4 жыл бұрын
They do have similarities, but novel writing is quite different in terms of formatting and structure. I plan on making a tutorial on novel writing next week, so hopefully that can explain things a lot better! 😊 Also, sorry!! Must have gotten lost in my comments. I went and replied to it now! To summarise, I think your number of pages is good, though most manga are about 180-200 pages in length. However, some manga can be longer or shorter, and that depends more on the writers personal preference. (Another thing I forgot to add in my other reply is that some companies have a restriction to the amount of pages they want in a book. If there is a certain company you want to publish with, it might be good to contact them and know more about how many page numbers they would want in each book.)

Does anyone know what you call the text box in the top corner of the panel? It's usually used for an intro of some kind or says something like 'Meanwhile ...'
@lionheartpublishing56532 жыл бұрын
Bit late, but wanted to say that I didn't use a scripting programme to do the screenplay style. If you use OpenOffice (free), you can create presets on the formatting and then you can assign shortcuts. For example, I use ALT-N which centres the text and allows me to write the characters name in bold font. I press enter and then ALT-Q which indents and on both sides of the page and justifies (letters go to the end of the block, no over or underhang) and puts my font in italic.

This is what I do STEP ONE: The Idea The idea doesn’t matter, but it is good to an idea that gives off the location, characters, scenes, and even conflict. STEP TWO: The Brainstorming It’s time to put your ideas on the paper start writing all of your ideas and think of new ones. And don’t forget the story structure. STEP 3: The Scenes Think about it like a movie with it having different scenes. Turn your ideas into different scenes along with the structure in mind. STEP 4: The Story Once everything is settled, put all in a structure that features everything you made. The characters, the conflict, literally everything. And if I notice a plot hole, something I want to add, to l want to change something. I don’t worry I just change the story.

Dame i only watch two videos an the two of them were helpful BTW: how do i know what i am describing in my panels can fit on the page ( if you know what I'm trying to say)
@midnightXcross3 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. I think that's where storyboarding comes into play. This is why I usually use the basic scriptwriting method, so I don't accidentally put too much information into one page. It might help if while you are writing what happens in each panel, you also draw small sketches of panels, to see if it would fit correctly. 😊 Or you can simply keep a mental image in mind while you're writing the script, to see if it would all fit on your page.

Hi, Thank you for the video I both enjoyed and learned May I ask, How to foreshadow properly?
@midnightXcross4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!! 😊 I do plan on making a video on foreshadowing in the future, however, here is a few tips I have on this! I think one of the biggest keys is to create a 'false truth' and focus more on that. People will think that false truth is the real truth, and get distracted on other things from the real truth. From there, try and place clues towards the real truth, but make them very subtle. For example, if a character is secretly an enemy, they might have moments where their alibi is off, and only the really smart readers can catch it. You also want to work a lot with body language. If someone is lying, the body language can usually tell it. In foreshadowing, if something bad is going to happen and someone knows it, you can show it in the way they are acting.
