I made wolves that effectively have "Absorb Elements" as an innate feature. It's a fun spell that people barely use so I wanted to give it some love. It also fits with my homebrew world setting. The wolf is able to use it's reaction to absorb the elemental damage of a spell reducing it by half. When the wolf makes it's next attack that same element is imbue into it's bite. The wolf's fur will change color to reflect what element it is currently holding. If you kill it in this state the fur permanently stays that color. It can be used to give resistance to the element associated with said color once. After which the color fades and the pelt returns to normal.

Personally, my proudest homebrew thing is the chronomancer’s pocketwatch, and it’s pretty simple. It’s a very rare item that requires attunement, and once per day, you can use a reaction to cause an attack that would hit you to instead miss.
@Sir-PleiadesАй бұрын
Why very rare? Items aren't really balanced with one another but a 1/day miss as a reaction is pretty weak imo. The concept is cool but I feel like it needs a bit more juice to really qualify as Very Rare

I haven't done much homebrew, but one of my favourites from what I *have* made is a bunch of variants on the generic skeleton. A frailer archer skeleton with a better bow, a skeleton with extremely low AC and not great health but a greatsword, a slightly stronger skeleton who wields a short sword and shield, and the more funny CR 1 Fishing Pole skeleton, which is exactly what you'd expect with that name. It was really just a fun way to have more low level undeads without resorting to zombies, because zombies just aren't fun to fight imo. Pair these homebrewed skeletons with horse skeletons, skeleton ogres, regular skeletons etc. and you have a diverse array of undeads to unleash on a level 1-3 party.
@Deka-KaizerАй бұрын
For years, I’ve been working on a set of ‘elemental’ mechs that are summoned by a weapon, piece of armor, and/or some jewelry while fitting to the wielder’s form. Each one, holds the power of an elemental damage type, and I call them, “The Armor of the Kings”! Ironically, the “King” part is more of a meaningless formality. And aren’t necessarily passed down from king to prince, they’re passed from master to apprentice. (If they are proficient in the weapon the mech uses). Each one adds a 1D10 to your attack roll, has its own set of spells, and acts like an Iron Man suit but bigger and are immune to their respective damage types.

One of the main things I do when making homebrew is reflavor existing class lore to fit my homebrew setting along side original content. The biggest thing i took on was completely rewriting Sorcerer lore from nepo baby casters into artificially created casters through science (think Espers from Toaru) and renaming them to Conduits, along side 5 new custom subclasses inspired by Warlocks from Destiny. Because I took this on I also decided to make and print a custom source book for all my original content along side a Grimoire and a full index of every single class/race/magic item change I rewrote. It's a monumental task but im enjoying it. I've been working on it while my campaign escapes limbo

Oh man, I love taking ideas from other media and pasting it over established icons. I ran a one shot for my friends where I used mind flares, an oblex, and a beholder with the underpinning of "the silence" from Dr. Who. Basically, to boil it all down, after the players "got away" from everything, they'd forget everything that had happened, head to town where they would start the quest over again which was "travel with a group of guards to a small mountain town to help stamp out a goblin problem." Guards get taken in the night, through a passageway in the manner they're all staying at, leading into the mountain, players follow after.

Homebrew outer plane of creativity. CG alignment, five layers. First layer: literature, painting, sculpture, etc. Second layer: performing arts. Third layer: industrial arts (steampunk-adjacent). Fourth layer: magical arts. Fifth layer: a desert, representing creator's block. Natives: first layer: TMNT (look whom they're named after); second layer: lillends and muses; third layer: gnomish versions of our favorite Italian plumbers; fourth layer: non-infringing versions of the apprentice from Fantasia; fifth layer: mushroom people (representing vision quests). The skies above the various layers should mirror their themes (e.g., perhaps the fourth layer's sky looks like Van Gogh's A Starry Night).

I made a homebrew class (well 2 with their own sub classes) 1: Hemomancer 2: Alchemist (no artificer tied to it) Hemomancers have the interresting abillity to using blood components. Wich can be your own.. or if the enemy is bleeding.. use THEIR BLOOD insted for your spells/abillities. Hemomancers come in 2 variaties. (Thhere are more subclasses, but basically they come down to the same thing) 1: Spell enhancing 2: Blood rage (Basically a beserker version of it, but without being barbarian) As for the alchemist. They are basically spell casters who "prepare" spells like Wizards but unlike Wizards.. Alchemist's spell slots are the vials they brew. More vials = more spell slots. The only restrictions is ingridents and levels. But they can also transmutate things similairly to FMA. But insted of an alchemy circle they need a focus (wich can be the circle) like any magic class. Transmuting however will take "Value" in mind. As long as you know the item and got the value for it.. you can transmute it. So now every worthless item is useful. Last but not least.. they get special "Int and Wisdom" weapons. Like needle hands for injecting wich is an INT weapon. They don't do high damage but those potions/poisons you have? INJECT THEM INTO YOUR ENEMIES! They are in my campaign and one of my players did get 1 level in hemomancy and is willing to gain more. Infact.. they love the fact they can give up their own blood as a sorcerer/hemomancer hybrid to enhance their current spells to do extra damage aka "Take damage to add damage"

So, as far as favorite homebrew, I worked with a GM I no longer speak to, to adapt World of Warcraft's MISTWEAVER MONK to D&D (pathfinder technically). This is by far one of my favorite creations, relying on slow (1 or 2d6/turn) healing over time effects that will intelligently move to new allies when they overheal, generating buffs (a silver orb) on the targets they depart from (tiny bonus to saves, but stackable technically), which in turn, I can spend orbs off of those allies for my action-focused abilities. This gives me power to be an active healer, and directly produces interactions for me to try and achieve, like spending a silver orb on a large area heal, haste-slow effects, or to instantly trade positions with any visible target with no save.

Otto Correct 1st level Reaction Components: red ink When an enemy casts a spell you can use your reaction to force them to choose a lower level spell. (This does not use the targets higher level spell, but the lower one instead, i.e. if the targets casts a 9th level spell they must choose and use an 8th level spell instead). At higher levels you can force them to use an additional slot lower (i.e. the target uses an 8th level spell slot you cast at a 3rd level they must choose a 5th level spell instead)

I've been making homebrew for years, I think my favourite HB I've made is the Ignian, a race of giant-folk that are born from an event when a giant was thrown into a volcano, which promptly erupted. The blood of the giant mixed with lava scattered over the land, and from the soil crawled forth fully grown ignians! They're not exactly smart, enjoy showing off feats of strength and power, and at least one of them became so strong he started squaring up with gods for the hell of it

I started my D&D homebrew the same way that most people had, making really crappy and illegible subclasses and magic items but once I actually got good- well, not good, but I understood the game well enough, I decided to move away from that, and instead do subclass revisions, since I was basically just taking stuff from a bad subclass, and slightly rebalancing them. Maybe I'd add a feature or two, but not too much, and they let me get a good grasp on the type of language they used for these things then I made my own two full classes (which desperately need playtesting), and now I'm moving on entirely to try and write out my own ttrpg system, so this whole experience has been a lot. A lot of fun, that is!

My two Homebrew ideas that I’m working on rn in a “Vampire” Subclass to the Rouge & an Illusion damage spell 1) the Rouge Subclass is someone who survived a vampire encounter, but the vampirism had a slow effect on them a) so far I’ve stolen the Bite attack from the Dhampir, but rewrote it to function like Bardic inspiration but only if the foe isn’t Undead or a construct, & you could use your Sneak attack bonus on this but it converts the added damage to necrotic, doing this also heals you 1/2 of the Total damage delt, but only if the foe’s not Undead or a construct b) what I’m facing is I want this to be “better” than the Arcane trickster, but I don’t know if I want this to be a half/third caster, & what spell tree to grab, a vampire having Animal friends/minions sounds on theme, but you could just grab Summon familiar from a feat c) I’m also tempted to give this paladins “Lay on hands” but reworked so you start at zero, & you only get the points to heal after dealing damage to a foe, probably through magic, & still hitting a limit (example, you deal 6 damage with a spell so you gain 3 points to use, the limit being your Rouge level x5), this idea comes from the idea of a rouge stealing blood as well as gold, so I want to include this but can’t decide how or when 🤔 2) the illusion spell is a Conjured Bow based on the 8th lvl Illusory Dragon, built for 3rd level Wizard Illusion, this is also inspired from Skyrim’s Conjure Dedra Bow spell, I made this for Arcane tricksters & iirc Eldritch Knights could pick this up too but idk how effective this would be a) a concentration spell that lasts for 10 minutes, when cast you choose the Damage type of acid, cold, fire, lightning, necrotic, or poison, & you make an arrow of that damage type, when used it has a base 3d6 damage, that gains an extra 1d6 when upcast b) I just have no idea in a lot of things, if I want this calculated as a spell or as a bow for avoiding damage, should I include an Int check like the dragon spell? What about its range? Should I let it be physical so you could use Real arrows that are tipped with something? Should using real arrows remove the magical damage type or keep it? I’m also tempted to make this a ritual spell that when cast as a ritual, increases the duration, but I’m not sure 🤔 Thanks for listening / reading my ramblings~

i made a race system in which i break all race in two base-race sub-race let you chose 2 option to make your race ,also make it feat like for be able to get some extra racial trait at later level. i add old race (conversion from previous edition to 5e). For old powerful race i made some of there feature racial feat and i try for then number of racial feat match the number of racial extra level they have in the previous edition. this make some hundred pages. i check balance (there a guide for balancing race). i have also some subclass and prestige class (convert from 3e/3.5e) , Some monster (mainly old dragon converted for 5e and stronger version of 5e monster ). from my experience If you want to make a race i recommend the table "Detect Balance: a 5e Homebrew Race Guide" for balance . for subclass focus of theme don't be afraid to make overpower feature, it is generally way easier to nerf a homebrew to appropriate power them to buff it.(you can find help if need). A common mistake is the bag of but or rat , feature trigger on kill something can be cheat via a bag of bug or rat to gain unlimited of it. this feature must have an other limit of use. for monster have fun and calculate the CR after . same for magic item give the rarity relative to the power . same for spell give the level matching the power. In all case keep in mind that all player option are monster option, this is a realy important for the balance of the game, if give to monsters and it break the game, it should not be a player option. For exemple if you make a overpower 2 level (which should be a 3 level spell), them feel sad that your overpower spell was limited to some pc, so you make it a 1 level spell for give access to everbody, is a very bad idea which will make your homebrew be considered garbage (yes i speak of silvery bard here , in my opinion without the advantage it is a strong level 2 spell). i can provided link for most of my homebrew and resource but not here to avoid automod. Also english isn't my native language, I am sorry for all mistake i made.

Thiugh to balance it out a bit more created a item the players can find that would allow them to nulify its regeneration ability so they would have a better chance of damaging it enough to put it in a state of stasis.
