I was JUST talking to a friend the other day about how placing the burdens of that era on the female character in this show made them good female characters and made them stand out against the mess we've seen in media as of late where the limitations are ignored.

I think that’s why historical fiction is so fun to work with. There are character struggles that were more prominent in a time period OR even if they’re still prominent today, we can look at them from a distance and be a little more objective about the injustice.
