"...being given the answer in a foreign language." I like that. I'm also glad you mentioned the Ymir reveal and the function it serves. Seriously, if you wrote an outline of the story and mentioned that Eren is a surprise titan, then Annie is a titan, and Erwin is convinced there is another, then we get Ymir revealed as the titan, the Reiner and Barista reveal sounds on paper like it would be cheap, obvious, and ultimately not very important or rewarding. Yet, it's one of the most iconic scenes in anime history. It's a good analysis.

Great video, and I always love the fact that the red herring of the tinned fish is actually Herring! And the fact that Herring is a Saltwater fish, in a tin (which paradis doesn't have that technology) is an easter egg to the fact that whoever put the fish in the tin has advanced tech and access to the sea.

So hopefully I can get that done quick so I can move on to my own work. Idk if I’m ready to start though I just started making manga like a few months ago but we’ll see what happens. @@kingslayerx1716 It's about a young man who used to be the local town wizard. 20 years ago he was killed. Now, he has for some reason been brought back to life. He soon learns that the magical barriers which used to shield the kingdom's upper class society has gone down. Back in his home town, he encounters his former best friend's son, now the same age himself. Together they set out to find the missing father. And the cause behind his sudden resurrection

++ Style points for using a literal can of herring as a red herring. But as for whether Reiner is feigning ignorance or not, I always assumed that Ymir could read it, because she was 80 years older than Reiner and it was written in some older script. But that only make sense if we assume that the supplies were were brought to Utgard a long time ago and forgotten. But I beleive that they were brought in by the Beast titan and his party, so that doesn't really make sense and Reiner is possibly feigning ingorance after all.
@E.B.Andrews4 ай бұрын
*shrugs * I was too dumb to have suspicions about what was going on anyway. I was like, “reading is pretty hard. I get it. And saltwater fish for people who’ve never seen the ocean is normal. Carry on please.”

Though I do agree with your cohesive and comprehensive understanding of subversions, they should never be the entire focus of a writer; subversions (or plot twists) should serve as a bridge for the story so the story in of itself can become better. Think of subversions as a bridge for the story to take a new route, and recontextualize previous events which brings more depth; furthermore, the methods you have provided are excellent for these subversions themselves to be able to turn the story in a way the audience doesn't suspect.
@E.B.Andrews4 ай бұрын
Oh definitely. It’s like a house. You need the bricks, mortar, singles, and once you have that down you can start adding extra cool stuff like the hedges and plants and wacky stuff people do with their homes. Plot twists are nice, but they shouldn’t be your primary focus.

Also I have one question. We all know Eren got the founding titan (and attack) and changed the past to get it. But how did he get the founding titan to change the past to get it? Sorry if it doesn't make sense, but I want an answer
@E.B.Andrews4 ай бұрын
Haha, no I think I get the question. I think that’s like a chicken or the egg riddle though 😅
@BlazeOnMars4 ай бұрын
@@PopularAbbyeet I believe the easiest and neatest solution is that time is a closed loop in AoT and that the events of the story are predetermined. It's hard to wrap one's head around because, for us mere mortals, time is the 4th dimension and, unlike the other 3, we simply cannot manipulate that 4th dimension in any way. We're tugged forward along the river of time no matter what effort we put out to change that. Your actions only change what downstream looks like. But for a predetermined timeline, time is more like a pond, a sticking point in the river where actions change the past and the future. Think of Eren gaining the Founding Titan like a rock and that rock got dropped in the pond, causing ripples. Eren, from in the future, feels those ripples in time, gets to the point where he understands what caused the ripples, and then drops the rock himself. Sorry if that's a lot longer answer than you wanted, but the time travel elements of AoT fascinate me.

do you like the ending?
@E.B.Andrews4 ай бұрын
This is gonna sound weird without the inflections. I like the ending, but not because I like the ending. The ending is relatively congruent with the story as a whole - everything is cyclical in a world where it’s kill or be killed. The ending provides the same message. Because that’s the message, the ending is left open, which is ok, but it doesn’t give a whole lot of catharsis. I was happy knowing “Eren” came back as a bird to put on her scarf, but everything else leaves you with a sense of an itch you’ll never scratch.
@Bossy-d7r4 ай бұрын
@@E.B.Andrews fair enough fair enough, I'm not a big fan of the ending myself because I feel like the character conclusion of eren just isn't really good, and all those reveals (eren killing his mom, erens plan) and everything it just feels like blatant character assassination because I refuse to believe isayama wrote this
