Just an FYI - The majority of shop bought Boiled Linseed oil is not natural. It contains toxic inorganic compounds and treatment should not be applied without proper protection such as gloves. Boiled linseed oil is also considered an environmental contaminant and should be disposed of properly in accordance with best practices. You can check the Materials Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) online for "boiled linseed oil" for more information.

That’s got to know, the bottle that I have says food safe on it. There may be different standards between different countries, I know toxic chemical standards are much higher her in the UK than in the US. There are many kinds/brands of glue that simply aren’t available here, such as barge cement. But I totally agree, one should always check the suitability of a finish they are applying to a piece and follow good practices when handling and despising of chemicals an oils. Thanks for the comment and that tip, I’ll definitely pay more attention when buying my next bottle of boiled linseed oil. 👍

Doesn't linseed oil ignite when exposed to oxygen?
@HeyPatch6 жыл бұрын
Yes it can under certain conditions mainly when soaked rags are left in a pile. I’ve never had it cause a fire, but I have had a rag get a little warm. Stay safe when using linseed oil, but I don’t think it’ll just blowup in your face. According to Wikipedia “Rags soaked with linseed oil stored in a pile are considered a fire hazard because they provide a large surface area for oxidation of the oil, which oxidises quickly. The oxidation of linseed oil is an exothermic reaction, which accelerates as the temperature of the rags increases. When heat accumulation exceeds the rate of heat dissipation into the environment, the temperature increases and may eventually become hot enough to make the rags spontaneously combust.[23]” Thanks for the comment 👍

Some nice camera work in this one, especially in the shots of you torching the wood. I assume these were just shot at a higher frame rate? I really need to try this on a project. Definitely an amazing and instantly weathered look.

+Venger Voldur thanks man and yep, as with all my videos so far I filmed this entirely with my iPhone.. It has a high frame rate mode for super slow motion. Whilst filming some of those shots my phone got pretty hot haha. It's a great technique and pretty damn trendy. there are also lots of different variations you can do, for example lightly torching the wood will turn the softer parts of the grain darker quicker making the grain of the wood much more visible and giving a striking zebra like effect. Or you could burn the wood quite a lot and NOT use the wire brush leaving it uniformly black, as always man, thanks for wanting and for the comment.
