Excellent Explanation! Thank you

I would love to know why there's water coming into the toilet tank both from that clear long plastic tube and also from the bottom of the fill valve. They seem to both fill the toilet bowl and tank anyway so why is this incoming water stream divided by two? I've replaced these all my life and still don't understand this...

Hi Dan, the clear plastic tube refills the bowl - which is why it should be attached to the top of the flush valve tube so the water drains through the flush valve to refill the bowl - and the bottom of the fill valve refills the water in the tank that will be used for the next flush. We apologize if that wasn't made clear in the video and hope this explanation helps - and thank you for watching!

Thank you, the reason I ask is because I have the water open very little for my toilet since I'm rarely home and I live alone. No water comes out of the plastic tube to refill the bowl even though it's in position yet the bowl is still refilled with only the small amount that come out from the base of the fill valve.

Hi Dan, there are only two ways for water from the tank to get into the bowl - from the overflow tube of the flush valve (where the refill tube of the fill valve attaches) or when you lift the flapper and empty the tank. If you have water in your bowl and neither of these things are happening, you have a bad seal somewhere. Usually this is caused by a flapper disintegrating, but it could be that your gasket needs replacing too. If water isn't coming out of the refill tube, either you don't have the water flowing enough or you could have a blockage in there. Sometimes if the line isn't flushed beforehand or if you have water with a lot of sediment in it, a rock or some other debris will lodge in there and the fill valve won't refill properly. If your toilet is in good shape and not leaking, you can turn the water on to the appropriate level and it won't be wasted. Meaning you can have the water on full bore but nothing will come out until the toilet is flushed and the fill valve refills the tank/bowl. If it does, your fill valve needs replacing. Keep in mind too, that toilets are designed holistically to flush with a certain amount of water. It may flush with less water, but it won't do so effectively and the waste may not clear the line fully which can eventually lead to clogs and backups. We hope this helps you out, and thanks for such great questions!

how to replace the lever from left to right? or do i need a new tank please? Thanks
@plumbingsupplycom8 жыл бұрын
Hi +ks1307 - I'm assuming you have a tank with a left side trip lever and you want the trip lever to be on the right side? If that's the case, yes you'll need to get a new tank.

If you come over to UK one will find a bewildering array of flush and fill valves. Every manufacturer has a different way of doing it. Flapper valves very rare
