I consider myself a competent home mechanic. Yet I fell into the trap of using freon with standard compressor oil in it when the system got low and destroyed my air conditioning compressor. I then had the fun of replacing the compressor as well as the evaporation unit which required removing the entire dash. Thanks so much for your help on this, I used your videos to accomplish this and hope everyone notices the tips about using the correct oil in an electric air conditioning compressor!

I would recommend annual throttle body cleaning as well, because the atkinson-miller engines tend to burp soot. My son has my early 2002 Prius, with the un-updated ECU that throws the Big Red Triangle of Death!!! (drama is important in our lives) every autumn when the weather turns cold unless the TB has been cleaned recently. Thanks for the warning about the refrigerant oil! I was good with charging R12 back in the caveman days, but R134a took me to the shed the first time I tried it so I don't do my own now. With your warning, I think I will use the dealer for A/C services on our 2014 because we don't have any other Toyota specialist in town.

Thanks so much for putting these together. I have a Toyota Highlander hybrid approaching 300,000 miles and on a recent trip noticed significant vibration in higher speeds under slight acceleration, especially when the cruise control is managing the system. I'm going to start with the transmission flush which unfortunately I have never done but you have a great video on it. The vibration stops immediately when I tap the brake pedal but once again builds up the harmonic under slow continuous acceleration. If you or anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate your tips!

I’ve been following your series’s and I find them extremely helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I’m looking to buy the new hybrid sienna bu my concern is regarding a statement you made about running the AC while park and how that can kill your battery. My question is how long can someone run the ac or heat while they are parked while they wait for their wife to get out of TJMAX....God bless and may he save us all from TJMAX
@TheCarCareNut
@TheCarCareNut 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching my videos. Having the ac or fan running with the car on or ready on will not kill your battery as long as it’s in park not neutral. Parking for a short period of time is ok. Very long and frequent parking with the hvac on in any car is not healthy for it long term. I recently drove a sienna hybrid for an extended time and I love the thing! The interior is very impressive. They’re already out at least in Chicago find one for a test drive and see how you like it.

Thank you for the time you put in to this channel, and for serving God's children as a technician. (As a truck driver I know that you all truly make the world go around). At work, I love sleeping in my rig. In cold and hot weather I run the APU (small onboard diesel generator). It keeps the batteries charged, the coolant warm, and has A/C. Heat comes from a diesel/electric heater. I see in your video that Toyota hybrids have electric A/C and a small electric heater for when the gasoline motor isn't running. To allow for a similar situation to sleeping in my truck, can we run the HVAC (lightly) when sleeping in a Toyota hybrid? The RAV4 Prime has a feature called "Room Mode" where it will run off of the battery and cycle the gas motor to charge the battery every now and then. Will non-plugin models (such as the highlander) do this as well? If so... To avoid cycling the motor on and off, is there any way to run a trickle charger or some other power source on an extension cord to get external power to a non-plugin hybrid? Thank you so much!
@TheCarCareNut
@TheCarCareNut 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, Thank you for watching my videos! And from my part thank you for what you do. Without truck drivers the country simply wouldn’t move and nothing happen. Thank you for your hard work and sacrifice. May the lord bless you and keep you safe and healthy. Regarding the non plug in hybrids. The problem is the hybrid battery capacity is much smaller than a plug in hybrid. So having a charger on the 12v won’t run the ac and heater it would have to be a charger to the high voltage battery which is not something I know of at the moment for recreational use.

Yet another fantastic video, AMD! You’re such an educator. By the way! They could not do the alignment with the aftermarket parts that I installed on my Toyota Verso-S (NCP120). Only two providers of the inner tie rods and both are too short. It needs a new rack. Sadly enough I can’t do that on my driveway without investing in a Quick Jack and a couple of other things. The rack costs $786 here in Sweden. The workshop time and costs will be another $802. It is still cheaper than what many VW and Audi owners have to pay for ordinary maintenance though. I wish you and your loved ones a really nice weekend.

Toyota India has launched Toyota urban cruiser Hyryder, with both mild and strong hybrid. Can you please give your analysis in the strong hybrid and it's predecessors, like where was this 1.5 3 cylinder engine used before and whether it's a successful engine or not. Launches in India have seen a lot of cost cutting, and this car was jointly made with maruti suzuki which has also launched similar cars, and hence a review from your end on what to expect would really help. oh i always fear my waterpump leaking one day on my V6 Hybrid...they say its the weak point of that bulletproof engine. you are right with the electric waterpumps warming up more fast the engine BUT is´nt it better to have a little circulation for warming up the whole engine gradually instead of getting warm hot spots like cylinder head and cold spots like bottom crankshafthousing ! I mean as long as the thermostat is closed there is only the small bypass circle working; but yeah it needs a little bit power always. My V6Hybrid from 2010 does have a clever system to recircle the warm exhaust gases for faster warm (it really needs that due to 3.5ltr !!) up and better mileage EHR (exhaust heat recovery). would like if you can explain it a bit.

After this video I will take it to the dealer to fix the leak and fill her up, I don't know about local shops and if they pay attention to the special oil needed for the compressor or would that matter if they just use R134 to fill it, no oil or anything else?

Hi Ahmad! Thank you! So your Camry does use R134 but the oil is what’s different. At every Toyota dealership there’s a dedicated machine with R134 but has never touched any car but hybrids to avoid oil contamination.

Is the stop and start engine new features on the new models like 2020 good or bad and does will create problems later on. I am planning to buy a new rav 4..thank you
@TheCarCareNut

There are 2 theories on this. One says it will harm the engine one says it won’t. I trust Toyota engineering that it will not harm things. But the harm wouldn’t be immediate if any, it would be over a very long time.

You're right. Now a days car companies put alot of safety features that you don't need and then later on after 5yrs if those features fail/break,you have to service/ fix them to the dealer .that's how they get you, the more the features the more Maintenance..thank you

do you know how to disable this fake proximity sound? is it possible with the techstream program to disable it? i really hate it! 😂 if i unplug the speaker will come a light to the dashboard? is the proximity sound connected with can bus system? thank you so much for your videos! you are the best!

Hi! At the dealership level you can’t disable it as it’s considered a safety feature. If you disconnect the speaker it shouldn’t cause ossues

Thanks again for this explanation of the hybrid engines. One thing I would say. On the reverse beep noise. There is anyway to place the noice outside the car?? It will help with many distracted pedestrians texting while walking 😉
@TheCarCareNut
@TheCarCareNut 4 жыл бұрын
Priis that make the beeping sound when reversing is to alert the driver you’re in reverse. The sound you heart in this video is very loud and hard to miss. Some of the older models didn’t have it. In those cases an aftermarket solution is the only way

I recently had my dealer disable the in-car reverse beeper. It drove me nuts, and I couldn’t see a reason for it. (Ive learned that the car moving backwards is sufficient warning that it’s in reverse.)

As much I dislike that beep. I think 🤔 it’s a safety issue since the car can be extremely quiet at low speed

The backup sound made by new Toyota hybrids is NOT for your listening pleasure it's to warn pedestrians that you are backing up & it alerts them of such. It's a GREAT safety feature... I believe the sound should be even louder.

Hi! Both of these SUVs have a very similar hybrid system. I would drive both of them and see which one you like best and the difference in price. Either one you buy will be good as a hybrid car it just comes down to which one fits your budget and needs in a car.

I just recently purchased a hybrid RAV4. I love almost everything about it except the Angelic scream it makes in EV mode and the fact that after engaging the remote start function the vehicle shuts off as soon as a door is opened. It’s incredibly frustrating. Is there any way to disable that response? This is my first Toyota.
@TheCarCareNut

As far as I know you cannot disable the vehicle proximity alert. Regarding the remote start sorry that’s a design limitation and it frustrates me as well. They have to do it where it shuts off due to the smart key system design

Excellent video. I wonder if you could share your experience and opinion on clogged EGR circuit? In particular, the EGR cooler and the passage are often clogged in Prius Gen-3, and some people hypothesize that this will result in higher combustion temperature, leading to engine gasket failure. Is this true?
@TheCarCareNut
@TheCarCareNut 3 жыл бұрын
There’s no direct link between the two honestly. The head gasket issue remains a mystery without direct explanation. I recently had a 2010 Prius with over 130k with the original EGR valve and all EGR components that is very clean and no issues with EGR. People that fix them DIY also are not aware that there’s a software update that greatly reduces the chances of this issue happening again

@@TheCarCareNut Thank you. But I thought that the owners will get a software update (similar to a recall) notification automatically? Do I get that wrong?
@TheCarCareNut
@TheCarCareNut 3 жыл бұрын
So that was not a recall. It was a TSB that turned into a customer support program. You can’t get the update done unless the issue is there and a new updated EGR valve is installed.
