That was a good thing you did. It caused me to remember one time, I arrived at London Euston and there was a bakery company giving away mini loaves of bread, I took one and held onto it as I was going to my hotel near Waterloo station, as I came out of the station there was an old boy, long term homeless sitting in a corner not being a bother, "Excuse me sir would you like this? They were giving them away at Euston" yes, he said, "I never refuse food" he said, I finished the sentence " ...because you never know when your next meal may be" we laughed and he thanked me and parted. I don't think the guy's future looked particularly good but if it helped him for a wee while then that's good and I will never forget him. I also never forget that he or the lady on the platform at Zaandam could be any one of us, it just takes a few things to go wrong in life. Have gratitude for what you have however much or little it is.

Greetings from the United States. I made this trip in 1993 at the suggestion of a Dutch friend, who, at that time, was living in Rotterdam. I spent several hours at the open air museum at Enkhuizen -- and later wrote a travel article about the trip that appeared in the travel sections of several U.S. newspapers. It was a computer search for Enkhiuizen several years ago that brought me to my first view of a cab view video from the Netherlands. Of course I have watched many more since -- and always particularly enjoy the trip to Enkhuizen. It was on the actual trip in 1993 that I became aware of the lift bridges without catenary wire on this line. And, as others have pointed out, "bum" is a derogatory term, which you probably did not mean to use. Poor or destitute person may be a better description.

have a syrange question to ask if I may, at the very beginning of the video when you left, how do the main controllers of the train or dispatch or whatever it is, how do they determine which set of tracks out of all those I saw at the very beginning of the video, which one to actually put the train on if you know what I mean, and actually how do they do that????

This is all planned out in advanced by experienced dispatchers. These days the dispatchers have not inconsiderable help from quite capable software. Plug in here, there, dispatch time, and, if it can be, it is all worked out. {^_^}

Hopefully, ticket inspectors will one day learn that if you delay a train because one person doesn't have a ticket, a whole train full of passengers get to their destination late and will encourage them to take the car next time. Seriously, this is not a valid reason to make a train be late.
@ericvenneker Жыл бұрын
2 minutes 'late'... Yes that can cause you to miss a connection, but it is hardly worth mentioning. Also, people that do not buy a ticket are more likely to misbehave in the train to other passengers.
@puikepuck Жыл бұрын
@@ericvenneker your first part is correct: it can make people miss their connection, so it is indeed worth mentioning, especially because it isn't a valid reason. I don't know where you get the idea from that people without a ticket cause more trouble; in Luxembourg, everyone travels without a ticket and yet hardly anyone causes trouble. The trouble here is mostly caused by exorbitant fares, and by ticket inspectors making a scene when there are people in the train who genuinely can't afford a ticket yet do need to be somewhere. I grew up as an orphan, having to live with a monthly income of only €160 which due to the fact that it was the 1990s and having an incompetent guardian, I had to pick up in cash from his office in Utrecht, while I was living in Apeldoorn. Needless to say, I had to dodge the fare in order to actually survive. I never caused trouble though, I even paid my fines years later when I was older and had a proper income. Maybe think about that next time you hear about people dodging fares.
@ericvenneker Жыл бұрын
@@puikepuck @puikepuck the person in this video has caused a scene, otherwise the cops would not have been notified. I also came from a relatively poor home, so I do understand the struggle. I did however never have to travel without paying for a fare. I do believe that the fares are to high (2 adults by car is cheaper than by train) Also I said that people not paying are more likely to cause problems then people that did pay. That does not mean that every non-payer will cause problems or the more than x% will cause problems or that paying travelers never cause problems, just that it is more likely. I am sorry to hear about your past and I hope that you are or have overcome it and I hope you have a bright and happy future.
@chasinghoran Жыл бұрын
So actually, you're saying 'leave those people be and accept them not traveling with a valid ticket'? I don't care if you paid the fare or didn't, but if you didn't and get busted, don't be an ass, but accept your loss. Do not blame it on the conductor or driver, they did not make the train be late. The passenger did. He (or she, don't matter) caused a scene, had the police be involved and made the train be late. He did that. Not the conductor, nor anyone else.
@DeBert Жыл бұрын
@@chasinghoran Exactly. Also, you can travel without ticket if you really want to. Every time you get a ticket check, you make clear you want to buy one and have your ID ready. Then you get the ticket cost+€50 fine sent home to pay later. Here there was no ID and no willingness to participate and that's where the trouble starts. Not with the train staff.
