It opened my eyes of the beauty of other countries, especially their railways or metro. Singapore and Taiwan have better MRT compared to ours. Although we have the superb beaches in our country.🇵🇭

I traveled as solo to Italy for a whole month, right before covid, and i can't wait for my husband to get a full retirement to travel the world together! We've been watching your videos and that inspires us to do it sooner than later, but unfortunately not everyone gets into a comfortable retirement, not to mention an early retirement to be able to do it. May I ask what was the job you had that allowed you to retire at age 55? Thank you! And please, keep posting videos.

How do you guys deal with imperfect weather and other things beyond your control? I'm planning a trip to Yellowstone National Park and it looks like the day I arrive it will start snowing and they may close the park for the season. It seems like whenever I make travel plans, things go wrong and it doesn't work well because of things beyond my control.

(from Sharon, Australia) Another great vlog from you both. My husband is 60 and I am 58 years of age. I am currently trying to see how we can do some 'around the world travel' whilst we are still young enough. We are a little different to you in that we have 2 of our 3 children remaining living with us. They are 22 and 23, so not yet financially ready to 'fly the nest'. We are also both still working as we endeavour to pay off the remaining amount on our home loan. I show my husband your videos in the hope that he will be convinced that we can do a similar thing, only on a smaller scale perhaps. I absolutely concur with you regarding making an effort to connect with people whilst travelling. We spent two months in France last year, and one of the highlights was definitely the conversations we had with strangers. Who knows, maybe we could meet up with you both one day in the future, I think we are very similar :))

Thank you for sharing. We have always said that you can't let fear get in the way of traveling and experiencing new things. It isn't always comfortable and sometimes we wonder what we got ourselves into. One time we took the wrong bus in Reykjavik. Once we figured that out, we got off the bus and started problem solving how to get back into the city. It worked out in the end. Our conversations with other travelers are always very interesting and an immediate bond is formed.

We believe solo travel is about 60% of the numbers of couple travelers, so $20,000 equates to about 30K for a couple. We think it is probably doable, but VERY tight. Good Morning, John and Bev, so good to wake up to your video, I think traveling is great, it helps you to grow and realize how small your world is. Thank you for giving others a brighter light in life. I love traveling alone, researching, and feeling rewarded afterward. and the feeling of freedom that comes with that. Last year I put a ten-day trip together, did my research, and it was seamless. I stayed within budget and met the nicest people. Yes, people always tell me I am brave, but I honestly don't get it. I just do me and am mindful. In Venice, I had my Rick Steves book and left the group, and had an amazing time in Italy oh, and got lost several times but that was a reason to sit down and have a glass of wine or two ! Yes, I"d rather travel than stay in a box I can not do it! I think I was born a free spirit. And most of all Tony Bourdain really was the one who really enlighten me. People are good in this world but tv and the news give you a negative outlook oh I no longer own a TV and love it! I watch videos and things that help me spiritually and mentally. Yes live your best life it isn't a dress rehearsal !! Keep on traveling and living your best life . Love to you both and blessings 🥰🥰🥰

Our 5 kids and 8 grandkids are spread out across the country. We were living in Florida and typically got to see them all 2-3 times a year. We have basically replaced our Florida living for world travel and go back to the US to them during 2 extended trips each year. Also, with technology, we do video chats with the kids/grandkids all the time. Works great. As the grandkids get older, we also plan to show them the world and take them on trips with us. We love our kids/grandkids very much, but we raised our family and they are all supportive of us taking a few years to go live our dream of seeing the world. Hope this helps. Pls note, Bulgaria’s recent inflation is taking out the country from the budget destinations’ list. Food, hotel and Airbnb prices have risen double for the past 1 year. What is still cheap is the entertainment part of the trip - museums, sightseeing. A 4 star hotel nowadays starts at 150 euros and can reach 230 euros per night. The price is definitely artificially pumped up. But the demand is there so the price will stay . A day pass to the spa of a 5 star hotel in Sofia is now 30 euros per person. The inflation is real. However, the country stays as pretty as before. To put the thing in perspective : a box of blueberries in Dubai cost 1 - 1.5 euros and in Sofia is 1.5 euros to 3euros. For the exact same size.

Rich people who travel see nothing, but other rich people. No partner, solo traveller here. No guided tours. Being shuffled around like chickens is horrible. It's not difficult to book your own travels. I found a taxi driver in Luxor, he took me to all the things I wanted to see and watched out for me. He made sure I stayed safe. I did an 8 hr trip tour to Aswan to see 3 archaeological sites and back for $195 U.S. The tour package was 20 people and $600 U.S. After 3 weeks of taxi service, Ayman invited me to his home for dinner. Be aware of your surroundings and of the people around, and pay attention. By learning about each new place you force your brain to make new connections, so cognitive decline is reduced. Adversity just means a chance to learn. Always have a small cash cache to cover errors in planning. I love change and being a nomad suits me perfectly. I walk through the streets of each place, look to the sky, take a deep breath, and on the exhale I say "life is good." "so good"

It is good that you can afford to travel this much, I think it all depends your nesteg, it is not feasible financially to many people, traveling needs money. Everyone knows and perhaps wants to travel the rest of their lives but you need income to afford all this. I don't like when people advise but don't cover the real bottom line.
@RetirementTravelers
@RetirementTravelers Жыл бұрын
The real bottom line is that we can afford to travel because we’ve given up our home, cars, and other things that required maintenance and ongoing expenses. Many people travel full-time without spending a lot of money. Many are able to live a nomadic lifestyle seeing the world on a pension and savings. It’s very doable. The bigger lesson is to dream a big dream! We hope that for you and everyone else who watches our videos. John & Bev

Hi Bev & John! You are such an inspiration for my family! We plan to be full time travelers one day soon. What is your yearly budget for traveling full time?
@RetirementTravelers
@RetirementTravelers Жыл бұрын
Thank you and hope we can continue to be an inspiration. Best of luck with your plans. We aren't trying to be vague, but it is very difficult to answer that question. We did a video where we tried to explain more. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIavg3t6hahobNk The biggest variable is country. There is such a BIG difference in where you travel. We've had some great experiences in low cost countries like Colombia, Laos, Vietnam, Bulgaria, Albania, etc The next biggest factor is your speed of travel. We are traveling hard now to help develop our content for our brand, but we do plan to slow down at some point and that will reduce costs. John and Bev

Not really. We typically search with Google flights and then go directly to the airline to book. Also, we typically use points for hotels and not flights. It has just worked better for us when needing to change. John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/

I also miss my husband when we're apart. But I've watched both my parents and in-laws struggle because my mom and mother in law are still excited to go places, but my dad and father in law aren't. My dad especially cannot fly anymore because of his health. And so, if my mom wants to go anywhere, even to visit my sister who lives in another state, she pretty much has to go solo. I'm glad to have such good examples for just getting on with it, because at a certain point my husband might also be unable to go anywhere 😟😪, but I know I will likely need to.

Bev, you have a different shirt!!!!! ;-) Travel is such an expansive experience. I’ve moved from a true tourist to someone who wants to delve into the culture I’m visiting. I’ve realized that while the popular tourist locations are awesome, the off-the-beaten-path locations are sometimes much more special and enriching. I’ve learned that while that expensive special meal might be nice, I truly crave the local down-to-earth meals! I’ve learned that the fancy hotels might be “nice”, but I want to experience the places where I can interact with locals in a much more intimate way.

We use the Chase Sapphire Reserve and have been pleased. Many benefits, plus Priority Pass to get into airport lounges (we have used a bunch). We used to only do Delta related points, but now we fly on many different airlines and like the flexibility of not just one airline. Hope this helps. John and Bev retirementtravelers.com/
