I think there is a missconconception where some people think they are not blond beceause its common in sweden to be born blond but as you get older you get darker and darker hair. until you have like what we call it "rat-grey" or sometimes like for me it is actually brown. But I was totally blond as a child. These people should probably be called blond because that is how they started.

I love Sweden. I was lucky enough to live there for a couple of years. The people are beautiful, respectful, smart and welcoming. Everyone can pick shit through their own culture if they want. I'd take the traits I mentioned in a society if it meant having to deal with a bit of shyness and coldness at times. You rock Sverige!

There's a thing that stuck me in Sweden, as a Portuguese. Being interrupted and to interrupt (insert regret face) a normal informal conversation is quite common in Portugal. However, that's not the case in Sweden. Especially Northern Sweden, they will let you talk and talk and they will only reply when you finish your point, after waiting some seconds, just to make sure you really ended speaking. This is really interesting in my opinion.
@draug7966

That is an interesting comment, I hadn't noticed that. I am an American and by way of my own experiences I have taught myself to listen more carefully to people and let them finish completely , as you mention, before responding. I do believe it is a sign of respect and shows you are genuinely interested in the other persons comments rather than trying to get your bit out. I think it makes for a better exchange and leaves others feeling happier and more satisfied with an exchange. Thank you.

@@emiladelow8463 I'm not saying on formal ocasions, there usually everyone respects and lets the person talk. 5:57 Herring is "strömming" or "sill" ... "surströmming" is a very specific kind of herring, it has been fermenting by bacteria for months before packaging in cans. Most Swedes don't eat "surströmming" I think he may have got the translation of "herring" wrong ... Most Swedes like some kind of herring, like North Germans, but apart from Norrland, we usually don't like "surströmming" ... in Lund, people gathering around "surströmming" are thereby showing they come from about as far North of Lund as Rome is South of Lund ... (yes, Sweden is very drawn out in the North-South dimension!).

I'm sure most people understand what he is trying to say even if it isn't the most grammatically correct way to say it. Societies that don't have the robust social welfare that Sweden does requires people to be more directly collaborative with each other, and that requires a better ability to directly communicate, converse, and even build new relationships of all kinds (helpful neighbors, friends, spouse, etc.).

As a Swede at this point I'm not sure if any of these stereotypes are accurate, maybe in foreigners' view but not the Swedes'. When you keep being told you are a certain way and you should feel a certain way about that behaviour, you internalise it and can't look at it objectively. Also I'm very annoyed by the Swedes who keep saying they are an exception from the stereotypes and that they dislike the current cultural social norms. They claim this but they actually behave the exact way as everyone else because they're afraid to even slightly stray away from the norm. Myself I'm struggling with the issue to make friends, but I realise best is to focus on changing my own behaviour and take a leap. Change does not happen without action.

good walfare, good salary, the housing is decent ? Where she live ? Sure not in Malmö, Gothenborg or Stockholm and a full time employed Post Nord truck driver earns 19000 Sek. 36% tax, 25% VAT, prices are higher then in Germany and cheaper then in Danmark but they earn more money. People have no insight into what people earn in other countries and how high the taxes are elsewhere. They live in a bubble.

@@Србомбоница86 that's also the point, so people keep handing over 50% of their salary to the govt every month. Happy Swedish tax payers! Meanwhile they have to wait months to see a doctor, because the govt decides if and when they want to spend (your) money on you ..they like that authority to rule and take control of their lives :)
