I'm also in the same boat. It's intriguing. With the limited information I'm working with, my theory was that they somehow turned the game into something akin to Anydesk and injected the cheats in realtime. But for that to happen, they also need to connect to these streamers' exact instances.

Has anyone figured out that he simply flagged himself as a dev and is using the built-in dev tools? No hacks or cheats. Everything shown is what a dev account can do. Ban people, make invincible, give away packs, spawn bots. Seems pretty obvious he's just gotten access to the cheats that came with the game. That's why he had access to their systems. A dev can do those things in live games.

The evidence suggests a rogue dev or this guy found a way to flag himself as a dev account. Think about it. If a dev jumped in a game and gave infinite ammo, sent messages, spawned bots and gave away packs, you'd be like "yup, that's what devs can do, because they're devs". Why make hacks when you can use the built-in dev tools? I suspect he's flagged as a dev. That would explain why no virus is needed. It's already built into the game. Any dev can do these things, and they don't need a virus to do it, just a dev flagged account. Simplest answer to me. Has Thor addressed this possibility, do u know?

I'm sorry but this is such a massive reach by PirateSoftware... that IP is a crawler (an IP which is constantly mass scanning the internet), this also makes 135 a totally normal port for this IP to be probing, it has been flagged as malicious in 9 separate blacklists for ages and it will be in any basic antivirus IOC list... meaning any basic antivirus would have blocked that. The connection MAY be connected somehow but its so unbelievably unlikely that it was successful and without a whole TON of further context, it means NOTHING. For instance: when was the connection, was it successful, if it wasn't was there only one attempt, are there any correlated windows events at that time, any evidence of scripts being run, etc... Basically, finding that IP should be a jump off point for the beginning of a single track in an investigation, not treated as evidence in itself. Thore is an offensive red team specialist, and it does really show during this analysis lmao! For context, I am a professional CTI analyst and trained in SWAT digital forensics. I have taken part in around 100 successful forensic missions.

The main purpose of cybersecurity is to prevent hacks in the first place. idk what was in the screenshot he shared, but if all it showed is "traffic" on port 135, that doesn't mean the attacker actually had an active RDP session. That IP comes up in virustotal/greynoise as a scanner, and it's possible that the screenshot just showed Hal getting scanned, not actively connected

its not hard to query a master server and get a list of servers. what he needs to know is who's on the server. The master servers do not reveal player names since decades. Last time they showed the player names was back in the days of Gamespy, which many games used their master server query protocol.

Personally I don’t believe he is some super hacker who hacked EA respawn apex client, I just think he was able to gain access to gen and Hal’s PC over time via phishing… remember they are both streamers… it’s not hard to get someone who is online that often to eventually click on a malicious link, you can try over and over too. Then once he has access he installs cheats, deletes the evidence, and voila. Then he can toggle them on and off via hotkeys during the tourney. The thing with the packs I think is unrelated, I agree with pirate, kid probably hangs out in dark web IRCs where CC# are everywhere. And yes I say kid because I really think this kid is 15, his name is destroyer 2009. Born in 09 he’d be 15 years old.

i have a hard time believing someone this sophisticated would overlook something so obvious as an open port with a running external connection. i would wager that IP address is a "community" server. Someone has to pay the bills, but that can be done with crypto. still might be able to track down through the wallet id...but is increasingly more difficult and whos to say who owns that wallet.

The irony is that this was 100% incorrect, the inbound 'connection' on port 135 was due to a scan because TSM ImperialHal had exposed his device to the PUBLIC INTERNET (bypassing NAT restrictions) via Port Forwarding or placing the device in the DMZ..... lol (place anything on the public internet and it gets scanned within seconds/minutes)
