So true. I remember being a kid about 14 or 15 at the beginning of my DJ career and seeing all of these hot artists were coming from Universal records. The average consumer did not know that Universal owned and controlled all of these entities. So when 50 Cent and Ja Rule were at the height of their beef, the man in the video profited the most. When Dre and Suge were beefing, that man in the video and Jimmy Iovine made more money off of them, because they were both owned by Interscope, which was owned by Universal. When 50 Cent challenged Kanye to see who could sell more records, again Universal is the winner! And so on!

Iovine was the only one who backed Dre and invested all his Worth into Dre . And into Death row. With all of his connections. It's good you know, however, you have to provide context for Urban Music and how that came about, during my time in music there was no such genre, it really change in the late 70's when corporate was trying figure out how they should market the music to a broader demographic, and get PD's to play and rotation on radio stations. I'm just scratching the surface of what really happen.

Peace. Money and so-called fame caused artists to go to the big labels. If you look at Cash Money Records, they (Birdman and Slim) were independent at first from like 91 to 98. Juvenile had a record or two that sold, like 200,000 units. Birdman and Slim got 30,000,000 from Universal. Notice I’m saying Birdman and Slim.
