I think the most insightful part of this subsection was that bit in the end. It's why huge corporations rarely come up with radical innovation, they tell thier engineers to focus on maintaining and improving the status quo, and thus innovation becomes a process of incremental progress year after year. Think of how Apple sells you the new iPhone 12 as the future when it's only marginally better than the iPhone 11. Before they were the status quo, their radical innovation put personal computers in our hands(smart phones), completely transforming our lives. Yet if such a huge innovation came across thier desk now, such a project would be viewed as a risky and expensive. Why would Apple need big innovations when they're already at the top?

They definitely would because he is proposing an idea like the phone. A lot of people didn't catch that he is talking about the standardized label is made to fuck you as a new artist and that the entire thing is bad. He loses money making music at this point which is a strong point and thats not even doing the math. with the heavy distribution fee, reserve held, distribution-marketing-promo having to come off the top not even counting the labeling promo, recording and other production expenses being modest you're already in the hole at the start if you don't have a big following. There is definitely a better way without as many middle men and with all parties winning but him proposing this could change the entire game.

It’s always the ones that have a big influence in a generation and go against the system that end up dead, it’s just too big of a coincidence. They can’t seem to put Kanye to rest so the media does its propaganda job and label him crazy. The thought of them just keeping the money instead of distributing it because they don't want others to get more power is pretty good. If you bought up everything some of these companies have (land, buildings etc) it still wouldn't equal to what the company is worth because it is meant to be unobtainable just so you can never reach it.

No he doesn't. He literally answered the question within the first 5 minutes then the last 5 minutes explained what he means. He literally is saying that the standardized deal is for you to lose and make you think that with enough effort you'll get further. That's why he doesn't even make money making music anymore.

Kanye's beef with the music industry is legit but its only because artists go to the labels broke that this happens. You trade your masters for advances. Once an artist gets wealthy and successful (mostly off the work the labels have done distributing and marketing the work) then they complain about being taken advantage of. If the album flops, the label takes the financial hit...not the artist (who got an advance payment). So while its a legit argument, its moot. The distribution and marketing model is different in this era, Kanye is right there as well, but if you sign a contract to get paid then you have to give up something to the label. The best thing to do is go full independent. Fuck the labels.

🙌🏼😬 Eeeek!! JRE & Ye! 🙌🏼😬👏🏼 After watching this clip, I do want to watch the entire interview. It’s plain to see/hear, Kanye is intelligent, interesting, genuine & exudes this kind of zeal & def passion. I will say, my interest in the full interview is all the more heightened by his speech pattern. He becomes sorta difficult to follow but it’s not as though he’s confused or speaking in complete word salad. He can backtrack, reword & restate, if the listener couldn’t follow. I’m curious to see, if that’s just his mannerism or if it’s just brought out by certain topics or scenarios. It feels like he’s pretty solid in his opinions, beliefs & ideas. His train of thought is well exercised, so there’s no time spent creating a new pathway. So, it’s as though his mind is traveling through his responses swiftly, because of the familiar course. He knows the point he’s trying to make, but it seems like he cant get the words out quick enough. It sure does kinda sound like a typical schizophrenic speech pattern.🤨
