Sheikh Hasina was really good in some aspects like maintaining foreign relationships. But, when a political party rules for too many years in a row, you can't even imagine what happens in a country. All the Awami League leaders were ruling the country and they were doing whatever they want. All those who were doing Chatro league were kind of gangstars of there area. Not only police, Chatro League members were beating and killing us for protesting. I know, your concern as an Indian is that BNP might take over Bangladesh. On August 6, 2024, Sheikh Hasina, the long-serving Prime Minister of Bangladesh, resigned amid unprecedented mass protests. Her resignation represents a critical juncture in Bangladesh’s political landscape and invites a thorough examination of her controversial tenure. Despite claims of significant economic progress under her rule, her leadership has been deeply criticized for authoritarianism, human rights abuses, and governance failures. Sheikh Hasina, leader of the Awami League, first became Prime Minister in 1996 and then again in 2009, establishing a long-lasting political dynasty. Her tenure was marked by ambitious infrastructural projects and economic development, including improvements in the garment industry, road networks, and digital technology. These achievements, however, have been overshadowed by serious allegations regarding her governance style. One of the most significant criticisms of Sheikh Hasina’s administration is the increasing centralization of power and the suppression of political opposition. Following the 2008 general elections, which were marred by allegations of irregularities, Hasina’s government faced accusations of stifling dissent and undermining democratic institutions. The opposition, particularly the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has struggled against numerous restrictions on their political activities, including bans on rallies and arrests of political leaders. The centralization of power under Hasina has been described by critics as an erosion of democratic norms. This consolidation of authority has led to a political environment where dissent is met with hostility and opposition voices are increasingly marginalized. Sheikh Hasina’s tenure has been marred by allegations of human rights abuses and violent crackdowns on dissent. The most notable incidents include the violent responses to protests and unrest in 2013 and 2014. During these periods, reports emerged of excessive force used by law enforcement, resulting in numerous civilian deaths and injuries. Human rights organizations have condemned these actions as state-sanctioned violence. The 2013 crackdown on the opposition’s movement against the war crimes trials, and the subsequent 2014 election violence, are stark examples of the brutal tactics employed by Hasina’s government. These incidents reflect a broader pattern of human rights violations, including arbitrary arrests, torture, and the suppression of free speech. Corruption and mismanagement have also plagued Sheikh Hasina’s administration. Despite economic growth, there have been numerous scandals involving government officials and allegations of embezzlement. The lack of transparency and accountability in governance has fueled public frustration and eroded trust in government institutions. The administration’s failure to effectively manage resources and address systemic corruption has had tangible negative effects on ordinary citizens. The benefits of economic progress have not been evenly distributed, and many people continue to face poverty and lack of basic services, exacerbating social inequalities. Media freedom under Sheikh Hasina’s rule has been another area of concern. Numerous reports indicate that journalists and media outlets critical of the government have faced harassment, censorship, and violence. This suppression of free speech undermines democratic discourse and prevents the public from accessing diverse viewpoints. The government's control over media and its actions against critics have stifled independent journalism and hindered the ability of the media to hold the government accountable. This environment of fear and repression has contributed to a lack of transparency and an informed public. The resignation of Sheikh Hasina came in response to mass protests that erupted across the country. The protests were driven by widespread dissatisfaction with her governance, including demands for greater political freedom, an end to corruption, and accountability for human rights abuses. The scale and intensity of the protests reflected the deep-seated frustrations among Bangladeshis who had long endured authoritarian practices and governance failures. The resignation itself marks a significant shift in the political landscape of Bangladesh. It is a reflection of the public's demand for change and a moment of reckoning for the outgoing leadership. The transition period will be crucial in determining the future direction of the country. As Bangladesh moves beyond Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, the focus will shift to addressing the systemic issues that have characterized her administration. The new leadership faces the challenge of restoring democratic norms, addressing human rights abuses, and ensuring transparency and accountability in governance. The post-Hasina era offers an opportunity for reform and a chance to rebuild public trust in political institutions. It is essential that the new administration prioritizes genuine democratic practices, upholds human rights, and works towards reducing corruption and inequality. Sheikh Hasina’s resignation is a pivotal moment in Bangladesh’s political history. Her tenure, despite economic achievements, has been overshadowed by significant issues including authoritarianism, human rights violations, and governance failures. As the country navigates this transition, the imperative is to address these longstanding issues and work towards a more equitable and transparent political system. The future of Bangladesh hinges on the ability of its leaders to learn from the past and commit to meaningful change.

@iamyou89944 ай бұрын
How did you find that your votes were already given? I know rigging can happen but when you randomly make a statement like that without giving proof and hope people accept it as truth. It only indicates the truth to be otherwise. Bangladesh did not have a stable democracy and it is a state with rising Islamic radicalism as well. And we know who in Bangladesh is really for all Bangladeshis irrespective of their religion. But you wouldn't mention that. Sheikh Haseena may be incompetent at many things but she isn't radical supporter. And many other geographical powers (primarily America) in the world are also looking for their interests in the region through conflict. Bangladesh isn't going to boom. That much is certain now. Dictatorship is what you have in Syria, Kazakhstan etc. Bangladesh was on path of stability but that hope is gone. When western Punjabi army aka Pakistani army invaded Bangladesh, they had given free orders to do what they please with Hindu women and girls but ofcourse they weren't doing bad things with Hindu women only but also with muslims women and kids and teachers and students etc, which is why the conflict resulted in separate Bangladesh from Pakistan. While it is being made to look like it is all a student movement but it is obvious that movement is also used by the radicals to eliminate all liberal and secular voices. No protest and coup ever happened against the injustices faced by minorities and against ex-muslims and athiest muslims of Bangladesh.
