Hi Amy, very nice. Can you put others too like Command, Curiosity, Statement and Question?

@@AmyCarroll1000 Hi and thanks for so prompt response. I am asking about upward inflection question or curiosity and no inflection for statement kind of things
@AmyCarroll10003 жыл бұрын
@@Dr_Hitesh_NLP_Master_Trainer Yes, most speakers naturally use the upward inflection to imply a question which makes sense. Sometimes it's useful to use a downward inflection, even when asking a question in order to project confidence and gravitas. This is especially useful if you're interacting with someone who is appearing aggressive or intimidating!

Is this anecdotal or is there any research which backs this up? For example a study that clusters salespeople into "up talkers" and "downward inflectors" then comparing those two conditions to their quarterly or annual sales figures.
@JasonReagan843 жыл бұрын
Does there have to be "official stamped research" for you to comprehend (and hear) the benefit to this? What about "anecdotes" do you find non-valuable?
@LGTMshipit3 жыл бұрын
I think that someone forcing themselves to do eight weeks of daily training in order to transform the way they speak should have more than just a story of how little Johnny stopped watching TV when his mom changed the tone of her voice to go on. Consider also that uptalking is more commonly associated with women and some other cultures. Could it be that the suggestion that everyone adopt downward inflection is just sexist and racist? Is this something that just puts a disproportionate burden on women and people from other cultures? Is this something that has a real, measurable real-world impact on sales numbers, or is it just a grifter grifting? Let's also not forget that "Bond, James Bond" is a work of fiction. People do what he says because that's the way the story was written. Peer reviewed research would help separate a real world impact of inflection from a general opinion and personal preference that has no real-world impact. Could there have been factors other than downward inflection that caused Johnny to suddenly pay attention? Peer reviewed research could help separate "cargo cult" from real world impact. To be very clear, I'm not saying this downward inflection thing is not true, but I am pretty sure it's sexist and racist. If we're going to be walking around saying that this sexist and racist thing *IS* true it would be really cool to have more to go on than a single story of this one client whose son listened to her.

@@LGTMshipit reading my words as "attack" or "flame war" is such an escalated perspective and tells me more about YOU than anything else. It's an epidemic today for even a simple question or altered perspective to be twisted into a "flame attack" and its such a sad state of reality

It's not about being seen as friendly, it's about being seen as weak and irritating. The upward inflection causes hostility and people ignoring or mistreating those who use it because it's extremely irritating and is used usually by those who are stupid, weak and not worth the time. It's not because people view it as friendly.

Hi New Beginnings. Yes it can be tricky at first to hear it. Perhaps spend the next few days listening to radio announcers (BBC/NPR) or new reporters and see if you can start to hear when they sound like they are making a statment or asking a question (regardless of the words). Good luck!
