How was the Quran Written & Compiled? Questions about the Quran, Part 8 | Dr. Shabir Ally

Let the Quran Speak

Dr. Shabir Ally explains that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) wasn't schooled in reading or writing. His companions wrote the Quran on materials such as the barks of trees and stones, and these written pieces were gathered and compiled to form the Quran that we read and recite today.

The first writing of Quran was in Aramic ( Assyrian) and during Ottoman bin Aafan start adding dots and vowels as we have now , and he burnt all the original writing of Quran. When you hide something important like this , that's mean you worry about the truth.
@Danish7605
@Danish7605 4 ай бұрын
The reason he burnt all the other copies was because they were different. he wanted to keep it original so he burnt all the other versions which were slightly different and kept the real ones. Some people say he did this to gain political power. so I'd ask one question how would he gain political power? Is there any verse that praises Uthman or even supports what he does? I don't think there is.

So the only difference is because the original version didn’t have dots in them ? Just dots or the meanings were different?

@@Danish7605there is so many holes in this that its truly crazy that Muslim believe. You say that he burnt the “corrupt” ones but how can we know for sure ? After all none of you muslims were there during the revelation to know what is being done and whats fake and whats not instead you have to believe in the infallible words of men. And yes it could be a form of power play since he had the power to authorize and standardize the quran There is no point in history during the time of the revelation where the Quran was ever completely written down it was only in bits and pieces on random objects so how are people memorizing the whole quran that was revealed over a period of 20+ years without the entire thing being written as a point of reference It is scientifically proven that our brains are in capable of memorizing no more than a 100 words So i guess my question is what evidence is there that what uthman burnt weren’t the real quran and what he produced is not the fake ?

my friend there are many things in the world that we dont know, including which one is right. Me too i had the same question. I was born in christian family in indonesia which is the majority is muslim. Theres alot of struggle in me to keep my faith in Christ. I learned philosophy, other religion and atheism to make sure that i know the truth. At first everything seems relative to me, i lose my hope to find any ultimate truth. Until i read a chapter in Bible, which said something like "you can only know the trees by their fruit". That verse strike me like lighting, for no matter how far i read philosophy, i can never find such assurance guidance. THE FRUIT IS THE ANSWER. We can never know the truth but we can now by that fruit if something is right or wrong. At the end i find no one is more morally perfect than Jesus. His Fruit is the reason why i firmly believe in Him. You too should apply the same method, for we never know the truth but we can know from their fruit, from their deeds.

I was doing some research. I find it interesting that Jesus died about 600 years before the quran was written by Mohammed. Mohammed said that the quran was dictated to him by the angel Jibril (Gabriel), who was sitting in a chair (Possibly a throne) in space between heaven and Earth. Who is the ruler of the 1st layer of heaven (space) and Earth? Satan is. Joseph Smith said that an "angel of light" appeared to him and gave him the book of Mormon written on gold tablets (that no one else has ever seen). What does the bible say about Satan? It says that he comes as an "angel of light" to deceive many. The Bible is the only book that claims to be the direct inspiration of God. It also claims that God Himself dictated to Moses, not angels. Charles Taze Russell, the founder of the Jehovah's Witnesses, wrote the first Watchtower Bible in 1884. (Didn't even claim it came from God or an angel. (Just his translation). So, the majority of the Bible was dictated by God and written prior to the quran and the catholic bible and the book of Mormon and the Jehovah's Witness bible. So, which one do you think we should put our faith in?

Of course it is perfectly preserved. Quran was revealed with some verbal variations for some words to make it easy for people to recite. So different Arab tribes has different ways of reciting some particular words(all of them being the revelation from Allah(SWT). But later as the the Islam reached to non Arab world, there was a fear that they will recite it wrong so a particular way of recitation was standardised that we see today. The main thing here to be noticed is none of the verbal variations changes the meaning of text. Prophet(PBUH) confirmed it that Qur’an was revealed with 7 way of reciting it and all of them are correct as all of them are from Allah(SWT). For eg: some recites Malik and other Maliki. There’s only difference of recitation between both words and not in the meaning or message of the Qur’an.

The Quran Never actually says Muhammad was Illiterate, this idea actually came from One single word that was mistranslated. The word is ‘Ummy’ found in Surah 7:157 and All over the Quran. Muslims have translated the Word ‘Ummy’ to mean ‘Illiterate’ however not a single verse in the Quran uses this word in context of reading and writing. If anything the Word actually means Gentile or those without the Scriptures. For example the word ‘Ummiyan’ is used in Surah 3:20; the verse says: ‘Say to those who were given the Scripture and the 'ummiyeen', "Have you submitted?". Now if You put the Incorrect Translation here it would read ‘Say to those who were given the Scripture and ‘those that cannot read or write’. Have you Submitted. Notice the verse has nothing to do with reading or writing but about who has the Scriptures and Who doesn’t have the Scriptures. In other words ‘Gentiles’. During that time it would be the Non-Jew/Christian. Which makes more sense since the Quran was given to the Arabs who had no prophet or Scripture at the time. Its very obvious that the notion of Illiteracy came Later, along with the New Translation of the Word ‘Ummi’ which now means Illiterate because it is taken from the Quran that poorly translated the Word.

One thing I realized that no one ever asked to the muslims, no one ever asked why believe Mohammad. At least for Christians our reasons for believing Jesus is he prophesied his death and resurrection. Because of that people followed the disciples when they gave testimony. His death and resurrection has been verified and proven which gave authority to his claims of God head. Now, concerning Mohammad why believe in him? Are there sources, documents, eye witnesses to his claims? Or are we simply going to believe out of blind faith?

the koran was memorized 100% and that was recorded with "variations" approved by the prophet pbuh while he was still alive in authentic narrations. The prophet approved of some very limited words to be "pronounced" slightly differently due to dialects of those tribes. These variations by the way only add deeper meaning to the verse. The message of the verse is 100 % in all cases. Its like saying sneakers in america as opposed to trainers in england. I wish dr. shabir would focus on this too. Gabriel told Muhammad to "read" not "recite". Even if Muhammad could not read he still could have heard oral stories from the Jews and Christians. I have been told that on his deathbed Muhammad was refused a pen. If that story is true then that would imply that he could read and write at the time of his death. I think it was remiss that he did not make sure a complete written text was not completed before his death. Nor did Allah. 😇🕌😎🦉

Dear Muslim, using your common if a Christian / Jewish scholar tried to explain the construction of the Jewish and Christian bibles the same way Shabir describes, they would loose all credibility. There is a saying that the weakest ink is more powerful than the strongest memory. There are over 20 different Qurans in the world today, no two which agrees with the other. All the doubts you have about Islam are justified. The truth is to be found in the God of the Christian and Jew as described in the bible.

The Quran is like the game 'Telephone' where a message is passed on secretly from one player to the next with a totally different message at the end. The Quran is basically an anti-Trinitarian gospel based on a total misrepresentation of what the Bible means by Jesus is the Son of God and at one with the Spirit of God. Read al -Tahrim (the Prohibition) 66.12. Therein it says that God blew the spirit into Mary's womb and confirms she was a virgin. So Jesus is from God. And in this text Mary calls Jesus the Lord. She is also confirmed in holiness and purity: "she testified to the words of her Lord and His Scriptures, and was truly devout." Thus, we can see how Jesus had to be superseded by Mohammed since he is the one making the claim that Jesus is not the Son of God. (Not really since he, himself, wrote nothing down and everything about him was written 100 years after his death.) Note also that Mohammed died, but Jesus didn't. In the Quran, even the surah Muhammad 47f references the title 'Mohammed' and could just as well be referencing Jesus (The Mohammed of God!)

@almilligan7317 3 ай бұрын
@@hassaanedits9806 Mohammed is the name of the Surah number 47. It’s the title. It is not a man’s name but means messenger. Scholars argue that the four references to the Messenger in the Quran are about Jesus given the context in which they appear. As for me I think that the New Testament as well as the Quran are about the nature and work of Jesus. (Like reading and contrasting Mark and Matthew, for example). That is good news because it means that these Religions are basically the same. For my part we need to stop demonizing one another’s religions, Hindus included, and start affirming one another. All religions are but reflections of God and for the goodness of humankind in the revelation that we should love one another. “All the Law and the Prophets (Jesus, Mohammed, Vishnu) are summed up in a single word, love your neighbor as yourself.” (Paul).

ISLAM, FROM JESUS CHRIST TO MUHAMMAD, FROM THE CHRISTIAN QURAN TO THE MUSLIM QURAN - A SUMMARY (1) There has been no more polytheism in Arabia since the end of the 4th century (384), and the entire Near East is Christian, with the exception of a large Jewish minority in Najran and a Zoroastrian aristocracy in Sassanid Persia; the Himyarite kingdom, southern highlands of Yemen, which maintained nominal control in Arabia until 525, adopted in 380 a Judaizing monotheism so as not to be subject to the Byzantine Empire from which emanate the Christian religious guidelines; but, following its evolution into "total Judaism" and the massacre of the Aksumite Christian populations living in the kingdom and the massacre of Christians in Najran, in 525, with the support of the Byzantines, the armies of the Kingdom of Axum invaded the Himyarite Empire and convert its inhabitants to Christianity. The Byzantines were Orthodox Christians, and the Emperor was Christ's messenger and protector of the faith. The Syrians, Persians and Arabs of the Lakhmid Kingdom, subject to the Persian Empire, and those of Arabia are Nestorian Christians, who believe that Jesus is a prophet, not the son of God. The Egyptians and Arabs of the Ghassanid kingdom, subject to the Byzantine Empire, are Monophysite Christians, born in reaction to Nestorianism. (2) The armies of Heraclius, Byzantine Emperor, annihilate the Persian Sassanid armies in Armenia in 622, in Nineveh in 627 and in 628 in Constantinople; the leader of the Persian armies, Persian king Khosro II, fled to Cteciphon where he was assassinated by the Zoroastrian clergy. It was from this period that Arab communities began to administer themselves. The Arab armies, in the service of the Byzantine and Persian empires, remained intact, gradually occupy the territories evacuated by Byzantium and those of the Persian Empire. (3) Muawiya, the first caliph of the Umayyad dynasty, as a Christian, makes Damascus his capital, and respects a Monophysite Arab tradition according to which he becomes the protector of the holy places, namely the sanctuary of Damascus, the tomb of John the Baptist and his cathedral. (4) As Muawiya's popularity waned, following his defeats at Constantinople and the resumption of tribute to the Byzantine Empire, a movement was born to bring together Christians from across the Arab Empire. This movement, led by Emir ‘Abd al-Malik, wants to give the whole region a Christian theology that could be accepted by both Arabs and Persians, and thus counterbalance the orthodox Christianity of the Byzantine Empire. He proposes a redefinition of the mission of Jesus, to be defined as the "Servant of God" or "Abd Allâh" in Arabic, and understood as Mohammed or "the chosen one". The idea of Jesus as Servant of God had already been proposed by Arius at the beginning of the fourth century. (5) 'Abd al-Malik overthrows Muawiya in the year 60 of the Arab era (679/680) and considers that the military effort must be accompanied by an internal consolidation by the establishment of an Arab Church like the Persian Imperial Church and following the example of the Persian Nestorian Church and the role it played in the last years of the Sassanid dynasty. To devote himself entirely to his task, he renews the peace treaty with Constantinople, agrees to pay him a considerably increased tribute and to share the income from Cyprus, Armenia and the Iberian Caucasus (Georgia). Its aim is to unify the Empire under the banner of the motto "Mohammed", that is to say the praised / chosen one speaking of Jesus Christ. Not wanting to be outdone, he informs the Byzantine emperor, Constantine IV, through the patriarch of Antioch, Macarius, that he intends to participate in the definition of the nature of Christ. Like Heraclius who produced an Ecthesis - a letter formulating the creed of the Church - in 638 advocating monothelism, he entered the scene by producing his own Ecthesis, and in 72 AD (691/692) he did so, inscribe it in the shrine he had built in Jerusalem, called the "Dome of the Rock" or Qubbat al-Sakhra in Arabic. The inscription is dedicated to the People of the Book, that is to say to all Jewish and Christian denominations. (6) Under the Abbasid dynasty, the capital of the Arab Empire moved to Baghdad. Fearing for his safety and that of his family, Abu Jafar al-Mansur, the second Abbasid Caliph, built the Round City, also known as the City of Peace, south of Baghdad - between 767 and 772. The city of Baghdad quickly became the hub of large-scale commerce and is the first city to reach one million inhabitants. At the beginning of the 9th century, Houses of Wisdom appeared in the enclosure, housing libraries, translation centers and meeting places. The oldest of these houses, which is particularly active, is the personal library of Caliph Hâroun ar-Rachîd, opened to scholars in 831/832 during the reign of his son, al-Ma'mun. Like Babylon under the reign of Nebuchadnezzar II in the 6th century BC and Alexandria under the reign of the Ptolemies from the 4th to the 1st century BC, Baghdad attracts all the intellectuals of the civilized world and followers of the great religions of the time. (7) As the religious leader of Arab believers (Imam) and spokesperson for God (Khalîfat Allâh), al-Ma'mun must create a tradition affirming his authority, both civil and religious, independent of other beliefs, that we will not be able to discern coming from the Christian tradition. His father, Hâroun al-Râchîd, was already working on the Arab foundation, assuming the function of lord of the "haram", sacred places forbidden to infidels. His father's wife, Zubayda, had the road from Baghdad to Medina improved to promote pilgrimage to this new sacred place. Medina replaces the previously visited sacred places of Damascus and Jerusalem. (8) Like Alexander the Great but in the opposite direction, al-Ma'mun leaves for the west, surrounded by his scholars and philosophers. His journey took him from Mesopotamia to Harran, a city where, according to the Bible, on leaving the city of Ur towards Canaan, the patriarch Abraham and his family settled. According to the Koran, three communities, belonging to the people of the Book, lived there: "the Jews, the Sabeans, the Nazarenes". The Sabeans used to go to caves to meditate. This practice is taken up by Islamic tradition, according to which the Prophet Muhammad receives his revelations in a cave. During his visit to Damascus, he visits the ruins of the Marwanid complex, place of prayer, and reads the inscription "And our prophet is Mohammed". He sees in it the confirmation of his own vision, that Muhammad is the prophet of the Arabs. In 86 of the Arab era (705/706), in the time of Abd al-Malik, she meant that "Our prophet is the praised / chosen one" when speaking of Jesus Christ. He stops in Egypt where he can see with his own eyes the greatness that was this country of which the Bible speaks, and in particular the Nile where the child Moses was deposited and retrieved by Pharaoh's daughter. Like Abraham, at the end of his journey, al-Ma’mun visits the Dome of the Rock. He had work done on the Dome, and he replaced the name of Abd al-Malîk by his own, but without changing the date of construction, carried out nearly a century and a half earlier. He sees in the inscription on the Dome of the Rock, "Mohammed son of Abd Allâh", another confirmation of his vision. His journey on the road to Abraham confirms his belief that Muhammad is the name of the prophet of the Arabs. Back in Baghdad, he takes up the tradition of the Syrian Arabs: their language and their theological history are integrated into the synthesis of ideas on "the Arab" and the "Prophet of the Arabs". (9) It was in 217/218 of the Arab era (832/833) that the Arabization of the Judeo-Christian religion of the Arab Empire began. Al-Ma’mun opened the doors of his Baghdad Academy to all the great minds of the time: astronomers, mathematicians, physicists, thinkers, scholars, philosophers, translators, of all nationalities and all religious allegiances (Christians, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists). As in Alexandria thirteen centuries earlier, where everything that had been written before was translated into Greek, the Academy of al-Ma'mun in turn translates into Arabic all the works of the past and of the time, in particular the Greek works. (10) The word Koran, in its Muslim version, means "recitation"; it meant, in its Christian version, before 832/833, the "lectionary". For Muslims, the word Mohammed means the prophet of the Arabs, the last prophet sent by God (Allah); it meant for Christian Arabs "the praised / chosen one" when speaking of Jesus Christ. The word Islam today means "submission to God (Allah)"; in the Christian era it meant "in accordance with" the Holy Scriptures.

A non - Arabic revelation for an Arab audience!" Say, 'O Prophet,' "It is a guide and a healing to the believers. SERIOUSLY, there was a great window of opportunity for LEARNED MEN to actually compose and edit the Quran itself until it became a well-polished book which Muslims say do not have any contradictions. Just because a book is so eloquently written it doesn't prove that it came from God. Confucius wrote many eloquent books himself, and he was born much earlier than Jesus or Muhammad. And memorization by itself does not prove it to be of Divine origin either. The Hindus have memorized the Vedas scriptures a thousand years before Muhammad was even born. If a scripture is truthfully of Divine origin, God Almighty would have PRESERVED the words in their pristine condition using paranormal miracles, instead of letting caliphs decide on how to compile the messages from rocks and leaves and goat skin. Shabir Ally himself used the words "tradition says", "story", and "attributed to"... so meaning these are just ASSUMPTIONS, rather than scientific and verifiable facts.

How did something come out of nothing? Creation comes from the Creator. You don't need the Quran to tell you that. It's simple Logic. So using the same principle of Logic, why would God give revelations to a man, and yet never took any Divine effort to PRESERVE the words in their PRISTINE purity and condition so that generations of mankind would also get the messages? If you have an important message to relay to your descendants 2,000 years later, would you write your message on a tissue paper?

@@daniyalshamkhalov9334 Your question was, how do you know and can be so sure of what God would and wouldn't do? I will use the same question to the Muslim logic - How do you know and can be so sure that God cannot transform into a Man in the person of Jesus? If the argument is that God can do anything it wants, then using the same reasoning God can also be Jesus in human form. Because, why not? We are not obliged to prove our logic, when others are not doing the same. So we transfer the logic to other aspects as a basis for reasoning.

There is a story in quran and bible where God reveals himself to a mountain, and the mountain crumbles to dust because it cannot handle that whuch it sees. God can not be contained in human form - it is a fallacy Well, if you are a christian and believe in revelation, it shouldnt be impossible to fathom that Muhammad (saw) also got to experience the revelation. If your argument is that of corruption of the scriptures and you are a christian, it should be obvious to you that the scriptural corruptedness of christianity is substantial

I think the Quran was written by Allah, how only Allah knows... The reason being is when Jebrail met the prophet in the cave Jebrail told the prophet to read and the prophet replied he could not read as he was littered an Jebrail told him to read (Iqra be isme rabuka), so the Quran must of been written for the prophet to read. And Allah knows best

No Muslim should lie to you. Qur'an was sent down from heaven. The Holy Bible is far bigger and greater then the Qur'an. The Bible is the most accurate book in the world. 1) The books of the Bible was not written by one man. Qur'an was written by one man 2)God commanded these men to write the books. Muhammad never commanded any Followers to write Qur'an. 3) The books of the Bible were written over centuries by different writers from different tribes, regions. Yet, they wrote the same message accurately. The Qur'an was written at a particular time and in one place by one man. 4) Those who wrote the books of the Bible were inspired by God. They taught people and were men appointed by God. Those who wrote the Qur'an never saw God nor hear his voice. They wrote from myth. 5) Muslim read the Bible today to seek knowledge but yet they don't understand it. 6) The message in the Bible can change our lives and teach us how to build our relationship with God. The message in the Qur'an is about satisfying Muhammad and Muslim desire. 7) The message of the Bible make everyone feel guilty of sin and Love for God. The Message of the Qur'an insult other religions (Christian and Jews) and make Muslim look special and holy. My Bible is far better then the Qur'an. My Bible teach moral lesson, while the Qur'an is about satisfying Muhammad.
