You can get free fruit trees from the trees that you have in your orchard. Just save a few of the branches that you would normally prune back in the winter and air layer them in the spring.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ABOUT THIS VIDEO ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
We pruned all of our fruit trees this winter but saved a few choice branches to air layer in the spring. Well, It’s May and time to get that done.
Air layering is a propagation method that allows you to root branches while it is still connected to its parent or base tree. Like grafting, it’s an art that take practice and luck but if successful, you can grow the size of your orchard without having to purchase your trees.

This is a very good and informative video. Yes , fruit tree's are expensive and this can save us money. One question, I understand the honey and water , but what is the cinnamon for? In case I missed the explanation, family at the house. 👍

@@Deacon_T great question. Cinnamon has great benefits for plants such as preventing fungal diseases like root rot, it helps strengthen roots and helps prevent mold. Cinnamon can also be used to prevent mushrooms from growing in potted plants by sprinkling a thin layer over the potting soil.

Thank you so much for this very informative video. You mentioned winterizing your potted trees. Please explain how you do that. I'm on the border of zones 6 and 7 and potted trees would not make it over the winter here.

We're in zone 6b here in Connecticut. How we overwinter our potted trees depends on the tree. For instance, we have an avocado tree that is potted that we bring into the house for the winter because it's tropical and doesn't need to "winter". But for our outdoor trees that are potted and need to be wintered, we move them into our greenhouse and insulate the pots in a variety of ways. I wrote a quick blog because of your question and posted it to our web page. It explains 5 ways to overwinter potted trees and shrubs. Thanks for the idea for new content and be sure to check it out - www.keepingitriel.com/5-ways-to-overwinter-potted-trees-and-shrubs/

Too little and too dry of soil mix. Too early for the late season (Autumn) or too late for the early season (Spring), your pick. Honey and cinnamon are great companions to the apple fruits but they won't do much for the roots; better off using actual rooting hormones but it's not necessary. Significantly trim out those branches and reduce trunk size, maybe leave roots in moist soil, under shade might let them grow just enough to survive. Cheers~

Thanks for the advice. As you can tell, I'm no expert but with the help of the community and some practice, I'll hopefully do better next season. Thank you for watching and commenting!
