I can see myself in her 🥺 spending because of pain and discomfort I had in my own life. Hearing her speak and take responsibility for the situation sent tingles through my entire body. She is such a great role model and I genuinely feel moved to take action and live life differently now

My husband and I have a very similar story. We aren't at the millionaire part of our story just yet, but today we got our first paycheck since we've become debt-free and I honestly couldn't stop combing through our bills trying to figure out what to do with all the extra money in the budget. Obviously, save, but it feels so unreal. Like we have bills I'm forgetting to pay. LOL Thanks for this motivation guys!

The first time ever I heard a woman saying, "I was the problem". "I spent". If people women or men are honest and openly agree what they did was wrong and cooperate with each other to move forward, there will be no divorces or bitter married lives.

bullybuc Got any actual research or are you taking your idiosyncratic experience and generalizing it? Women MIGHT spend more on small things but if that’s true it’s equally true that men spend on big things like risky businesses and cars.
@cconroy16774 жыл бұрын
She came to that conclusion bc her 2nd husband had enough respect for their marriage to call her on it, and she had to make a decision between clinging to her baggage or their potential empire. Too many men and women let the other person do whatever they want bc they want to please them, and bc it gives them license to do whatever they want also. Enabling both parties, so unhealthy. He is not perfect of course, but he was the correct party on this issue, and she was humble enough to admit it. She could just as easily be the financially minded one, and he would have needed the sense of humility.

Beautiful story. My marriage of 16 years crumbled bc of debt. We went through infertility and we spent $30,000 on drs visits etc. After we had our first, then our second our debt collapsed on top of us and we turned our backs on each other. At 40 years old now I realize. Had I had the right tools and knowledge in high school before being offered credit I would have been way better off. Why isn’t Financial Peace taught in schools???? Like high schools and college. This is real life stuff that’s needed!!!!! I have about $35,000 in student loans and two young boys to care for. Our culture and values as a society need to change. Bigger homes, fancier cars, more more more. I now never take on car payments. I drive an older car thats paid off. I have followed this principle for over five years now! He’s right!!! If your drowning!! Start with you car. Use your tax money to buy a used car. Get rid of car payments now! Don’t use credit for frivolous items like vacations and clothes. I buy my name brand clothes at thrift stores and also sell clothes on ebay and POSHMARK.

Dave MY wife Pam and I listen to you all the time. We went to your fpu in Sept 2017. Enjoyed and learned a lot. , We have been busy cutting down our our debt before we started the fpu . We had paid $8000 on a credit card debt a year before. And during fpu we had our house for sale. In Oct we sold it and paid off the second mortgage. Of $6000 we used to repaint the exterior. For 5 months we lived in my wifes brothers basement. We got along which helped. But knew we couldn't stay there much longer. We found a $265k home in Ankeny. Knowing we still had a car payment. Wasn't worried because the interest was 1.8%. And at the time we owed around $4000+ on the car. Today we decided to use some of our savings. To pay it off. $1600+ we had left. Now we are.debt free except our home. Which I know you wouldn't recommend. Because we only put down about 17% and did a 30 year fix. But we have been putting $400 every month extra on the house. And now we can put around $800 every month extra. We are not doing our debt free scream until house is paid for. The goal is about 7 years. As our income goes up. We make $148k gross. Do you think we can do it quicker.?

One of the guys I worked with, and his wife had a great plan, and I don't know long they stuck with it, but I know they were still doing it ten years after they got married. Their plan was simply that they would live on whatever salary the best paid of the two of them made, and would save then entire lower spouse's salary. It started out with him as a cop, and her as school teacher, and they saved his salary for several years. Then he got on as a federal agent, and his income passed hers, and they switched and started putting her entire salary in the bank and investments. At ten years of doing this, when we were on a trip together and he was telling me about it, he said it was working great, and they were used to it.

Yup, its a trend of these "Turning Point" segments. To go from $300K in debt to a net worth of $1.3 million in 5 years sounds unattainable. I guess these videos try to capture the emotional aspect rather than the process it takes to get from point A to B.
