HOW WE BROKE INTO NAIVASHA PRISON WITH PANGAS AND A SINGLE SHOTGUN - FULL INTERVIEW WITH GEN WAGOCHO

Spare time and listen to this hero. Originally from Kigumo in Murang’a, General Wagocho Mwambura has a great story to tell; a story of courage, of commitment, and of fidelity to country. Fleeing from poverty, Wagocho and his friends left Murang’a circa 1939 and went to live in Kinangop where they were employed as flower pickers in settler plantations, though they consequently relocated to Naivasha where they were in the employ of Indians until 1952 when the war broke out. By then, Wagocho had already taken the Mau Mau oath that compelled Africans to fight for independence and for their land. After the arrest of Kenyatta, Wagocho and other Mau Mau members entered the forests to start the Mau Mau war. One of the logistical problems was where to get guns to fight the colonial government. It was then that they planned the Naivasha prison break to release incarcerated Mau Mau fighters and to get the weapons they required. He provides details about the five armies of Mau Mau, and of famous fighters such as Dedan Kimathi, Macharia wa Kimemia, Kago, Ndungu wa Gicheru and Makimei. He also talks about General Mathenge, who he says trained them how to shoot, his mythologised escape to Ethiopia, and answers this question: was the Ethiopian man paraded by the NARC government in 2002 the real General Mathenge? When the Ethiopian was brought here, President Kibaki asked Gen Wagocho to go check him out and he gave his verdict.
