Rebar can be added to improve the longevity of the curb. Also, if lighting is desired along the fence, you can embed pvc electrical conduit with 12/2 UF cable inside the forms and use a pvc "T" close to each post to bring the wire above the curb level, allowing you to run the wire to the top of each post as needed later when adding the lighting.

Good advice about setting the elevation of the concrete higher than the dirt. Around here we use rebar and bent over nails to stake forms, the wood strips break if you try and pound em in our coral rock.

👍Great video. But if I may ask, is brooming a curb no one will walk on really necessary?

We like to do it just for the extra safety aspect. It certainly isn't going to be something that sees a lot of use, but if the homeowner is standing on it looking over the fence in the rain someday, or if the homeowner's grandchildren decide to race along it after it's just rained then we've got that little extra bit of safety. 👍🏻

This is not how u forum . This is Micky mouse. Use 2x4 pickets drive them in with a 16lb sledge hammer. Not 1x2 stakes . And also use nails

First for elevation, but It really does help keep your form straight,especially with such a long run . And has he said in the video the straighter it is the better its gonna look.

@@Nanook236 isn’t the elevation better checked by using a bubble level on the form itself? And won’t a 2x4 provide all the straightness anyway? Not trying to be a know it all or argumentative but every time I’ve used a string like this it just felt like an unnecessary step.

Elevation and level seem like the same thing but they are not. So he had two “elevations” in the video he was working with, using the strings was a good way to visualize where the one elevation ended and the other needed to begin. And yes you can use a string to check for level using a line level.
