I notice you hold the bag of the net so it's not hanging down into the water, I do this also, other fish like cobia and tripletail will turn away if they see the net. On flounder I feel like you never know how securely they're hooked so I like you I will be ready to scoop a fish if it becomes unhooked, I've scooped many flounder this way, have you scooped up a flounder that shook the hook, if so about how many times?
@captainscottlum23714 жыл бұрын
Oops I meant fluke! Lol! ;)
@JohnSkinnerFishing4 жыл бұрын
I've only seen that a few times. If the guy on the rod keeps the fish moving it's rare that a hook is spit. They get off easily if stopped and given a chance to shake.

Have you heard of the Procure Flounder Pounder. Wonder if it works. I have used the mullet and Shrimp and they work. Just wandered what you think of it. Gulp is good but gets pecked to death by pinfish in NC
@JohnSkinnerFishing4 жыл бұрын
I have tried various scents on various non-gulp bodies but for me nothing has matched the gulp. I do understand your interference fish problem though. I'd try the ZMans.
@davidvandiford99564 жыл бұрын
John we have had good luck with the Fish bites but do much better when paired with Shrimp for Pompano. I love Gulp and use it a lot. Will try the ZMan for sure. Also have been having some success with the Vudu Shrimp. The Reason I said something about the Procure is Ellis used it with some success on Flounder cause the pin Fish and other trash fish pecked the gulp to death. The Procure works but as you know at times Gulp can’t be beat!
@JohnSkinnerFishing4 жыл бұрын
Elias did, but I talked to him about it and tested the exact same soft plastic and scent here with terrible results compared to the others on the boat using Gulp. Elias told me his catches were very soon after it hit the bottom. My experience is the scent washed off quickly in current. Again, I understand pinfish etc can make gulp use impossible in some places at some times.

Where are you fishing? I have a 20 foot Grady white out of smithtown bay, I am thinking about trailering it out to montauk next week. The best I have caught this year was one fluke at 21 inches. Everything else has been short.

Brendan Woerner not always Montauk that boat he is on is Called the blue jay and it’s out of Green Port NY.
@JohnSkinnerFishing4 жыл бұрын
This was Montauk. Two cautions on using that 20-footer at Montauk. Besides picking a calm day, be aware that you don't want to have to round the point on SW wind and outgoing current. Also, about a third of our trips have heavy fog even when other areas are clear. Radar is a must for those days.

And they put twin outboards and would burn through motors in no time and it handled like crazy. Super rough ride and the tunnel slap sounded like a ton of bricks being dropped on the deck. The boat belonged to Hubbard's marina. The mono hull MS you guys are on seems another nicer. For what they paid for that 42' cat they should of gone with a Freeman 42!
