We finally have the engine for our most extreme off roading vehicle torn down - which means we can finally see what kind of damage it has, what all is wrong with it, what needs to be upgrading, and how we're going to fix the problems we find!

That mechanic knows his stuff and is amazing at explaining it. I’ve never seen a mechanic that is so knowledgeable and so good at explaining everything. That’s definitely a shop that I’d use. Usually a good mechanic knows his stuff but can’t do a full breakdown of what’s going on and dumb it down to where non car people or people that have never done engine rebuilds can understand but he did an awesome job.

I have been doing mechanical work for many and have never seen "sewing machine" rockers like that. I do not understand why anyone would use those things on a race engine. That makes no sense to me.

@@heavyarms951 this isn't a 392 mopar engine. It's a 6.2 Chevy LS3 stroked to 6.95L, from the ultra 4 car. The JLU has the hemi.

WOW! This video really enlighten myself and I'm sure many others on how to fine tune the inners of the internal combustion engine. The mechanic really explained the long term cost savings for more power and adding longevity. He basically explained why you don't only change one windshield wiper!!!! Thank you and keep the videos coming.

The Ultra4 car is rad, although it does require a lot more upkeep. 😅 Not surprising though when you consider the kind of abuse it endures

Couldn’t you use a paper air filter that filters 99.5% of the air contaminants rather than a K&N type that at best filters 70% of the crap that enters the engine . Could save on costly engine rebuilds ? Love all your videos 👍

I know about rodknock on 4g63’s I used to race them. They crank walk horribly we found ways to prevent it, but was a very expensive learning curve.

If you're gonna keep the LS, ditch that timing chain, even the double roller, and go with a timing "BELT". They are much easier to change than a chain. Both wear out, which one would you rather deal with?

You cannot easily put a belt on an ls and there are 2500 hp cars running a simple chain

I prefer to measure the hp on a dyno, the dinosaurs dont like it when i do wot pulles on them.

Great review. In my 2nd jeep ,1984 CJ7, I built and swapped in an AMC 390 high output coupled to turbo 400 trans. We did same to thrust bearing back then too. I grew up just up the road from Wayne County speed shop (Alderman Geoffrion) ... a lot of Mopar tricks. Can't wait to see this thing at KOH!!!

It sounds like James says the ARP 8740 rod bolts have 8000 psi tensile strength? But I assume you just got unlucky with editing the video and he actually said 180.000psi 😉 Still a nice upgrade with the ARP 2000 bolts though! Best of luck with the rebuild, and keep the videos coming😘

Rod bolts aren’t a failure point on LS engines especially ARP bolts. The rod fails before the bolts do.

Those engines respond really well to a higher lift and duration cam and a good tune. Thing should be even more fun now.

Unfortunately theres alot of bone head mechanics. This last summer i decided to leave it to the "professionals" for once. The idiots that put there grubby meat beaters on my brand new long block painted the damm spark plug holes. Kept my core despite its max bore size. Probably will rebuild it anyway

If CBM originally built the engine, why didn't they do piston squirters then if they increase longevity by 50%? Why didn't they match the cam to the heads? Why didn't they put a 3 bolt cam in it? Double roller timing chain? Inferior ARP rod bolts?

The engine had been opened up by a previous owner and swapped out parts. The oil squirters idk but the rest of the stuff had been changed by one of the 3-4 previous owners. These weren’t the original parts. The stock bore size was the amazing part really.

Guy is really fixated on skirt squirters, and you two with all the double entendres...LOL! Really amazing how GM engine stock parts took all the abuse racing and rock crawling dealt out. Good you are able to upgrade everything. This will really be a beast fit for Kevin’s right foot! Three Motorheads get together and and the talk is like music, with Brit hitting the high notes!
