You're much too hard on feudalism. Boiete supported the French Revolution. Feudal lords provided land for a serf's children and took about 10℅ in taxes plus 1 day per week 6months of the year for labour. Serfs did not work in winter at all. Most commoners worked 20hr work weeks on average annually.

I realized at a very young age we were slaves, when our teacher asked us to describe our "dream house", while everyone else was talking about Villa's and Mansions even Castles, i told the Teacher that i wanted to build my own house in the middle of a forest and start really small and just add on over time to grow a farm, when my teacher then told me this was illegal and you're not allowed to build just anywhere, i knew i was a slave...i was barely 8 years old...and life has been suffocating ever since, because everything i like, is behind the red tape of law and regulations that cost too much and i don't want to comply to those nonsense and give them my money...

Thank you! As a child, I dreamed of living in a forest, when I grew to be an adult as well. You are correct. Far too much of our lands and our freedoms are overly regulated. This has only been increasing. I did not see it as a child, (because no one told me it was illegal) as you did, but, I saw it as an adult.

I had a similar realisation at a very young age, about five or six, when I was talking to my grandmother about making lots of money from some scheme. She told me I wouldn't be able to keep all of it, as I would have to pay taxes. I was furious. Why? That wasn't fair. I still feel the same way.

@Dr. M. H. all this talk of God..maybe that's the problem to all modern suffering? We anthropomorphize god, the Holy trinity, to the point where jesus is imagined holding an ak-47 and condemning our "enemies" (brown people) and wearing a Cowboys jersey, the whole time not realizing that God ultimately represents the fundimental energy of the universe. Historically, spiritually, it's hard to imagine a greater evil.

@@munihmuni8814 This post brings out in my mind the ridiculousness of two armies (read compelled men), both praying for God to slay their enemy. While in Thailand as a missionary, I was asked how and why Christians would war with each other? Two nations or two men. To me then, 1983, and now, it is simple. One party or the other, or both, aren't following the teachings of Jesus Christ. Referring to slavery, Christianity forces the conversation whether I can morally own all or part of another person. I say it is wrong. So how can politicians, claiming to be Christians, enslave a population? Either they are ignorant, or they are consciously and with full awareness lying.

@@dvirit reading your comment really made me think. About 2 years ago KZbin just randomly started sucking me into these conspiracy videos. I ended up deep down the rabbit hole. Then one day i remember, first asking myself, how do these people know this information, and why would the government, if true, allow for them to give it to us? Finally one of the guys i was watching had a video and all it was was a song about starting a Revolution. Ill never forget how something came over me i turned it right off and said something is not right. Its like they want us to hate our own government. The government was trying to get ppl to turn against them and social media, MSM and KZbin were all the tools in doing so. I started questioning and commenting on all the so called" Truther" channels asking them were they get their info and if they themselves are CIA agents. These channels began disappearing from my recommendations. I was even unsubscribed to them and completely forgot about most of them until i would actually search for them and thats when i realized i was no longer subbed to them! So your comment just made me realize why they were doing it!! I never understood why before. They wanted us to hate them or not trust them so they could hit us with the pandemic(problem) so they can react and hit us with the solution! Order out of Chaos!! When I was young I would read history books about dictatorships and tyrants. I'd think, the dictator and his cronies are just a few people compared to the majority. Why don't they just get rid of them. When I asked my dad he gave me the most pitiful look. He replied, " Sweetie, we haven't even rid ourselves of ours for years. It's not that simple." I was shocked. I was fifteen and had no idea we were being ruled by a dictator. I never really felt it. Looking back now, I can clearly recall all the brainwashing that went on in schools. The songs we were made to sing in praise of him. The oaths of loyalty we had to recite. The changing of the academic curriculum to emphasize the importance of the regime and all the good stuff they were doing for us. Even a habitual annual charity by government was a thing. The historical biographies that elevated him to godliness. The government news and media articles whose central focus was to smear his enemies. The political activists who'd just disappear or die mysteriously. A tribe that was massacred for attempting to revolt. An attempted coup that failed. All this happened in the course of 24,years. Yet, I never realized we were being oppressed. Crazy. Without the courage of a few political activists and the threat of economic collapse, he could have ruled till he died. Even more ironic is that when he died he was given a state funeral with full honors. People went to his funeral and we're bowing to his corpse. Some were going on and on about his incredible leadership and how his era was more orderly or whatever. Crazy. This keeps happening over and over throughout history. It's like Humans have short memory, like to suffer and inevitably self destruct. Maybe it's the cycle of nature or something to destroy and rebuild.

Gaslighting and crazymaking are one in the same - they are both terms to describe a person that wants you to feel like you’re losing your mind. They do that by causing you to distrust your own decisions and make you think that you are wrong about almost everything. They know how to turn you from a happy, assured individual with your own thoughts and ideas into a dependent, unsure and fragile person that can’t take any steps without checking in with them first. Emotional abuse is insidious in nature, but crazymaking is the ultimate perception destroyer. If you can’t trust your own perceptions, you don’t even know what reality is. After some time with the crazymaker, you’ll come to trust the very person causing you to distrust yourself.

“It is true that, in the beginning, men submit under constraint and by force. But those who come after them, obey without regret, and perform willingly what their predecessors had done because they had to. This is why men, born under the yoke, and then nourished and reared in slavery, are content, without further effort, to live in their native circumstance, unaware of any other state or right, and considering as quite natural, the conditions into which they were born.”-Etienne de La Boetie, The Discourse on Voluntary Servitude.

Some of my Family survived Hitler and my mother and me ended up having to live under communism in Eastern Europe . I had to attend a communist school and indoctrination was fierce , but thanks to my mother i did not let the indoctrination take any effect in my mind i resisted . Later we were able to flee from communist slavery and i am thankful till this very day . I am also horrified what is happening here in America . It seem at least half of America is already in bondage to Marxist class warfare , calling it CRT and it is just a Theory .

I agree! The system is set up so we’re all so distracted with making ends meet and mindless entertainment because we’re so exhausted from working sixty hours a week that we have no time to ponder society and how everything manipulated us. They’ve created the perfect tyrannical system! And it’s so sad, especially for those like me who are just starting out in the workforce. Then again, we all have to pay rich people prices. Whatever the rich people can pay is what we all have to pay, regardless of income level.

Part of the great problem today is so few have any definition of freedom, real or imagined, right or wrong. My own definition of "freedom" can be summed up in the ownership of one's own soul, oneself. I'm bound only by the dictates of my own conscience. I live by those rules which are most convenient for the ensuring of my survival. All I possess, my faculties, talents, skills, abilities and all produced by using them are mine. I can use them as I see fit. In my mind, this is freedom. By this I can live in peace with all, no one can take from me what do not give, and no one can give me anything I choose not to take.

If all we do is sit in front of our computers and think about ideal society, we will never know the real world. Start going for long walks that are miles long and realize the true horror of your situation. There are people everywhere. Society is a house of cards that requires a ton of organization. Or walk out into the woods and tell yourself you have to live there for the rest of your life starting now. That's what I did and I realized the easiest thing to do is get a job... I could go start a new society in the woods but we already did that. It's here. Why would I go to the woods and reinvent every technology when every technology is already invented? What happened is we're in a resource predicament. So many people and so few resources.

Very interesting and accurate observations. However just ONE major point that de la Boétie forgets: power structures sustain themselves because of reward and punishment mechanisms. -Reward: for cooperation, for consent, acting accordingly. Sometimes even providing wealth, high status, security, privileges, etc. -Punishment: heavy punishment for resistance Social scientists who study Power structures claim: any arbitrary power structure will be sustained three things are in place: 1) Reward structures 2) Punishment structures 3) Ideology/Worldview/Religion that legitimizes power
