Thank you for some positive insight. We live in a small 3 bedroom home, with our 5 children, and our neighbors have not-so-nice opinions about it. This has made the guilt I feel only heavier, for not being able to offer a bigger home for our children by now. We've been here for 15 years, we love the large property and we're a close knit family, but sometimes it's nice to be reassured that a big house isn't everything.

I grew up in Texas and our house was small. My brother and I could never have anything but a twin bed in our bedroom and maybe a little desk and chair and that was it there was a small Hall with one bathroom that four people shared my mom came from a family of six usually some of my cousins were there are at Christmas all the aunts and uncles would come we'd put pallets in the floor those air mattresses and do you know I go by that little house now .... The house is so tiny, the entire time I lived there all I felt was peace and lots of love! I always thought the house was so big. ...my best memories were my childhood. Mom at home and dad was so funny and kind . No food insufficienties ....always plenty. I loved my childhood.

As someone from the UK, when people from the US say they have a small/tiny home, 9/10 it's a similar size, if not bigger than your average UK home. It makes me chuckle. But wow, your home is tiny and you are making it work! Love it.

My husband is the youngest of 13 children (2 sets of twins). His family lived on a farm in a 6 room house - living room, kitchen, small dining room and small bedroom downstairs and 2 big bedrooms upstairs. By the time hubby came along 2 of his siblings had left the nest but that still left 11 kids in 2 bedrooms - 4 boys in one room and 7 girls in the other. He and his siblings always recall the wonderful times they had growing up in that little house.

Until the past 60 years that was the norm. Our family lives in a modest house I bought at 20. What’s strange are these empty houses that are just enormous and so many struggling baby boomers becoming the elderly in them, but without family to care for them or keep them out of a bad nursing home. They are saying the generation that claimed free love over marriage and claimed independence by career over kids feminism are now the lonely generation desperate for any help they can get.
@SRose-vp6ew Жыл бұрын
And I’m not trying to be insensitive. Far from it. I am heartbroken. I keep meeting women at stores in different places and they are telling me how terrified they are after having say divorce their husband, never had kids, never adopted kids, focused on A career they thought cared but didn’t really, and now even friends are dying and even if they cares for elderly they now see their is no one to care for them. I know this is a downer, but it’s also a fact that boomers are twice as likely to not zero kids verses those who passed on 10 years ago who all had several kids helping take care of them. It’s literally one in five over the age of 55 and under the age of 65 that don’t have kids. The US would be in dangerous population decline if it wasn’t for one in seven people being an immigrant more likely to have family.

I would suggest adding an IKEA cabinet to the area where the dishwasher was. Not expensive at all and you can put super sliders on the feet to just slide it into the cavity. I did that in my kitchen and absolutely love how functional it is with full extension drawers! The rest of my kitchen is dark face frame cabinets so I got a couple of interior drawers that close all the way into the cabinet and a slab front door. The drawers had to be mounted above the bottom hinge and below the top hinge so that’s where I used the shelves that came with the cabinet. I used big sheet pans on those shelves to corral items but easily be able to pull them out. The slab front doesn’t match my cabinets but just looks like a dishwasher with concealed controls. So much more functional than the wire rack like yours that I had there before!

I grew up, second eldest of 12 children. We first lived in a two bedroom house with a partially finished "under the eaves, half story upstairs, that was one huge dorm room, that my Dad divided into to bedrooms. He also built a bedroom in the basement for the boys. It was small, but we got along... many happy memories there. When I was 17, my parents sold that home, and bought a split entry home, with two bedrooms upstairs, along with the kitchen and living/dining area. Downstairs were three bedrooms and a 3/4, very spartan, bathroom. The 4 th corner was a laundry room with sauna and shower at one end.

But life is crazy. Life is noisy. I have 4 kids, all grown and moved away now, and I hate the silence of the empty nest. We had a noisy lived in home. We were simple and we had all we needed. Build loft floors in your two spare rooms so 2 bedrooms becomes 4 bedrooms. You can put a long low dresser, 2 twin mattress and a tv on the wall on each "floor" and then 4 people can comfortably sleep in a room with 2 TV's in the room. So 2 rooms = 4 rooms = 8 twin mattresses = 4 dressers = 4 TVs = 8 kids in 2 rooms. You can make it like they each have their own fort with some curtains and string lights.

You should see if you can fit a small "island" in thr kitchen. It would give you so much more room for food prep

Very nice! We have a large family - 6 all together! We've been in a 4000sq ft farmhouse to a 1 bedroom with bunks & queen bed. I find for my family the 1 bedroom is sufficient. We're outside, like you, a lot more. Our kids are close in age so that makes everything easier! Thanks for the video! It was great to see how another family lives like we do!

Can you do a video of the things you love about the layout/design and the things you don't?! I think you have my favorite tiny house design ever! It looks so functional.
