This is probably the last manual oil extraction mill in jammu and kashmir . where Ghulam Mohamad Wani of Pampore is sextracting edible oil withbthe help of bulls. This is the purest form of edible oil.

I am reminded of my childhood days when a dealer from TELBAL would bring this stuff in a copper vessel to our home once a month. He would pour the oil in a measuring pot and then drop it our vessel. My father would pay him the cost of the oil. This system was discontinued after sometime due to arrival of tinned stuff. My gratitude to you for rekindling lost memories in various categories, both existing as well as historical.

Such rotating mills which extracted oil from apricot kernels.. guli aftab .. or walnut and mustard seeds by compression existed even during my childhood 40 years back in Srinagar suburban locality of Dargah hazratbal. One famous tillwoni was Lasseh tilleh as the people called him. He was my father's friend. The bull driven mill was called tillwani waan. There is a famous proverb in kashmiri.. tillwani waanuk daand .. Means if a person is confined to a room for hard work.. he is virtually or satirically called tillwani waanuk daand .. Have you noticed that the bull is blindfolded.. it is a means to halt the bulls violent aggression if he comes to know about his circular motion and preferably to keep the ferocious bull away from oil cakes lying in funnel shaped giant bowl of tillwani waan. How amazing psychologists were our ancestors.
