I prefer make up sponges, the triangle ones, for removing the enamal, you can be a bit more focused and aggressive without the danger of leaving fibres behind. Also removing more enamel from the top and to one side of the minie gives a pleasing highlight/shadow effect.
@the_kieran_show10 ай бұрын
Yeah the sponges are great. Right hand Kieran uses those for oils on his knights. Do find they remove more of the grime though so depends how dirty you want the final finish to be!

I loved this honestly, I always feel like my models are a bit to clean to a fault but when using other washes it just doesnt work how I want! I took your advice and got the berserker blood shade for my works and love it so ill be buying a bottle of grime because I think its exactly what my models need to not only make them more grim dark but more unique to me

For a nice in-between red I go for a Mephiston Red plus Flesh Tearers red on top (apply one thin coat of each), I find it helps make it more dingy without going to dark .

I like this tutorial as it shows simple methods for great looking batch painted armies :) 2 questions came up for me while watching: 1. Do you use dry brushing instead of air brush for a specific reason, as in preserving the recesses better or is it just a personal preference? 2. Do you warnish in betweem some of these steps? I usually end up applying glossy varnish before transfers and grime (though I use oil paints for that), so I was wondering if you skip it or just didn't mention? Again, its a great result and the HH transfers absolutely rock.
@the_kieran_show10 ай бұрын
Personal preference really and it depends what finish you want to go with. If you wanted a cleaner looking white scar then an airbrush would be a great way to go. If you’re applying the streaking grime over the transfers then that can help seal them in. For batch/speed painting it’s not really needed but for a character or something then we would. Depends how fast you want the process to be really. Oils would definitely benefit more from a varnish underneath though. For batch painted miniatures we would apply a thin coat of varnish when all the units are done so they are ready to be played with 😃

Great vid, if I can offer one piece of feedback, try the cotton buds that are designed for modelling, they're super compressed so they don't come apart as you remove enamels, and you don't risk getting fibres and threads tearing off and being left behind. Mr Hobby make them.

Oooh that's interesting! What's the price point like?

Loves this more tutorial style vid, great paint job Kieran, I really need to try and use streak n grime, I got a bottle when you mentioned it in the last Scars vid but have been too afraid to use so far 😂 and fantastic editing Kieran 🦾 really useful to have all paints used etc, fab job all round. How long roughly do you wait between steps? As I heard that you need to leave a mini dry overnight before streakin' and how long do you leave on before removing with spirits? I've had issues with paints reactivating/colour bleed when using microset/Sol but this may be because I was using Army Painter speedpaint V1 that had this issue even with water 😂
@the_kieran_show10 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for the support mate! My advice would be to use it on a tester model first and go from there, it's all a learning curve 😁 As far as time between steps, just when it's all dry really! I don't tend to leave things overnight unless absolutely warranted. Things like washes, enamels and transfers shouldn't need longer than 30mins-1 hour.

I started collecting recent and went in on Voltann. I went with a scheme that has black armor and green clothing. I feel like with the way the models are made and the colors I choose, there’s no fast way to do it.
@the_kieran_show10 ай бұрын
Oh I'm sure there is! Have you tried basing with black, drybrush with dark grey/mid grey and pick out the green cloth?
@Mrhofer10 ай бұрын
@@the_kieran_show I did a zenithal and airbrushed on the green. I think for the next unit I’ll be trying to airbrush the black on and do it like you described!

This looks fantastic. Do the transfers have to be done before the streaking grime stage? I couldn’t help but see the lovely white patch underneath the transfer which looked a little ‘off’ with the rest of the shoulder pad.
@the_kieran_show10 ай бұрын
Depends how fast you want them done. You could do it before, and then do a thin second pass over the transfers. But truthfully it depends how big the backing on the transfer is. Some of the more intricate ones have really big backing sheets (like the ones on the right shoulder) If it’s a batch painted unit you probably wouldn’t notice 😃

So after the grime you don't highlight ivory or red in any way? And if not with striking grime, what wash would you use? Agrax, reikhland, seraphim sepia?
@the_kieran_show10 ай бұрын
You could do another light dry brush of the ivory if you wanted to bring some highlights back. If you didn’t want to use streaking grime, we’ve really fallen in love with the AK interactive Deep Shade Pure Grime. It’s not enamel based, so can thin it down with water to find the tone you like 😃

@@the_kieran_show cool, thanks! They don't sell AK in my area, I'll maybe look for it online! I was thinking about basecoat my WS KT with grey and airbrush to white, but I recon the tone won't meld well with this kinda shade...

Only if you’re using it over a contrast paint as sometimes the spirit can pull the contrast off the edges when you use the cotton bud.
