Thank you very much for such a nice compliment. I guess I was kind of apologizing as I don't want to bore people with material that just doesn't have a lot of visible action to it but I did think it had a lot of value. Once in a while I get people coming in complaining that I'm too slow or talk to much kind of thing, so I try to keep that in mind... Sorta 😉

I will keep watching other videos you have about this subject. Thank for the links yay 😇And I will share it with Gary . Yes as you suggested I am really nice with him . But Gary said I am like a young girl with Her first horsey . Hoping to just have sweet happy moments with my Horsey Friend . ( it was like that when I had my first Horse ). And I agree it’s never the horses fault. I usually watch Bear constantly when I’m close . My bite was so unexpected because I was just standing where I do every day . When Bear moves in too much, I don’t move . He hast to back off and always does . Love that you give examples! Bear Huggggs ❌⭕️❌

Thanks for sharing this video. Your videos are always so informative, it doesn't matter if they're long or short. If someone prefers shorts, they can stop viewing whenever they choose. Animal behavior is fascinating... Human behavior, in comparison, can be quite difficult to understand, raise, care for, much less learn to live or work with 😆...

That is good information. My friend lives here partly and in Bonita Springs partly. I have her horses here. I have taught mine to back up and wait until I put the food in their feeders, then I say okay, eat. My nephew lives here and bought a quarter horse that's older and was very pushy. I have taught him to stop and wait. He's a lot better. My friends horses were very pushy. The younger one I have been able to teach her to back up and wait. She is very good now. The older ex-barrel racer is extremely pushy and dangerous when feeding. She bumps into me and tries to put her head in the bucket while I am walking to set it down. We are in the process of building 3 more stalls to where it's not so dangerous. I'm not getting very far with this horse. I try to block her with my elbow but she's a big horse and just pushes back. She is in her 20's like my nephew's horse. It took a while before I got him where he is. It will be better when we get the other stalls done because I do need a fence between her and me to be safe. I have never let my horses be pushy.

Very interesting one, thanks! It was also nice to see your ‘escalation’ process to get your space respected, voice, hand raise, thigh slap and foot stomp. I’m looking forward to see more videos of this type, I suspect there are quite a few early signs people may miss that then end up becoming issues. Would this type of bad behavior also affect the way horses ‘ask’ while under the saddle? I’m thinking that some horses, especially outdoors, can get excited. Some will ‘ask’ if it’s okay to go faster but some will be definitely more forceful. Is it linked somehow? Gotta love how uninterested Roo was during this whole thing as well. How is he doing with his new roommate? Finally, Lena is such a big soft marshmallow I really love her ahah
@StableHorseTraining4 жыл бұрын
Yes, under saddle horses talk a lot... I don't consider it much different and in turn I feel better at predicting the step before the step that it took for a horse to try to buck perhaps. Roo and Gracie seem to be getting along well, quite quiet actually.

Watching this video again , reminds me why I love your Heart as a Horse Handler . You are a Lover of Horses ♥️🐴♥️ i relate to so much of your way of thinking . I’m torn between letting Bear do certain cute gentle behaviors, and possibly asking for a problem to arise later up the road . I have been warned by people that He will get bigger 😱Bear is adorable when He licks my open hand . He still wants to nip a bit and chew on the lead rope when we walk him out to a pasture. But He always comes running to us when it’s time to go back to his corral . I back him up and make him wait before he gets his carrots . And He now does it at the sight of a carrot 🥕. I decided to go back to letting him help me put Alfalfa in his bucket . I was told he would get too pushy and that He is going to get BIGGER 😯 ( I hear it with every conversation with someone). Anyway, All I can say is keep up the great job in every way , that YOU are doing. These Horses Love you . That’s a true sign you are their best friend and treating them right . 👍🏼 Laura 💜 Bear 🐴💜

Thank you very much Laura :) Just keep working at things and catch them before they are big. I think the people around you talk too much maybe, but that's how it seems to be in the horse world where so many people want to stick their nose in another person's business. I do think a lot about how much easier it is to deal with babies than full grown ones, but I don't have any issue dealing with the bigger ones either... so all those "they're going to get bigger" comments are irrelevant to me.

@StableHorseTraining2 жыл бұрын
@@lauraalbertson7821 well, it can be more worrying to solve problems when they are bigger. Something to keep in mind, but of course we all deal with the horses when they are bigger too, so it seems like an odd point that people keep making. Ever known a horse to not have a problems when it's full sized? That would be my question... geez. If you leave gaps, they're your gaps, fill them in when you feel it's a high enough priority :) I do it all the time (mostly not on purpose...)

@@StableHorseTraining thank you for helping me see clearly what needs to NOT be a WORRY . I have never asked for their advice . They actually do not know what I have done or not done with Bear . I have been told do not let Bear choose ever ! You decide not Bear . It’s now become a demand from the Ranch owner . When she comes over to talk like this , Bear backs away from her . I know he is afraid of her . I have been looking into other Ranches . Nothing is as nice for Bear as this one . He is the priority. So I need to figure out how to ignore the comments. And not let it change the way I am handling my sweet Horse . I am handling Bear with patience and learning from your videos to always consider how He is handling each experience. Great video! You are so patient and the horses love you so much : ) My Dreamer used to "nip" me once -in-a-while as I would stand by the fence. She would lean over the fence and nip me hard on my arm. Happened more than once and I trained her that was NOT acceptable by stomping, raising my arms and using a very deep and loud voice saying "NO!" My belief is that you must deal with the bite immediately. Not 2 minutes later. Horses tend to move on to other thoughts....What do you think?
@StableHorseTraining4 жыл бұрын
I think that if you're "correcting" a bite, you're already late. Stop it way before it happens. That's what I was hoping to get across in this video but I'm not sure I succeeded...

I saw a video where the trainer,(Steve Young Horsemanship),who talked about hand feeding your horses.He said never do it because it will cause them to bite. He said to put on the ground or in their bucket. Does that make sense to you?
@StableHorseTraining2 жыл бұрын
It makes sense that somebody would give that advice as a lot of people get bit and it's just safer to stop feeding by hand as again, a lot of people don't want to teach and plenty don't want to learn or change their ways. I imagine his advice was for those people. Otherwise, no.

I purposely taught my horse to bite on command. I dont recommend doing this, but for me it was an important tool that he needed to learn. He was also the right horse with the right owner to be taught this. I taught him to bite because he needed to discipline the goats. He was so laid back and would let the goats get away with doing very bad things. Now he knew biting was not a good thing. He was really nice about it. I taught him to bite them and he would just slowly bite down till the goats would finally move. I had taught him to pick up things so i started giving him the command to pick things up and told him to pick up the goat. Otherwise the goats would eat all his feed. He was a slow eater. Goats can just vacuum down food and chew it as cud later. So goats had to learn. The goats were not mine. They ran around all over.
