29:08 This is it, people! The man said it himself. He will happily take a Gracie. So everybody out there with a spare Gracie - go on and send your Gracies to Stable Horse Training right now! Full grown Gracies are top priority. For the reference of how a full-grown Gracie looks you can check the reference at 27:12 It was a very good and welcome reminder of 'Roni's story. I feel like some of it was mentioned in the previous videos, but the whole picture didn't exactly click for me until this one for some reason. I guess, that it is all about the details. Or maybe I am just too forgetful. Sir Oscar is so adorable - he was basically falling asleep just from standing at your shoulder and listening to you talk. I feel like could also watch you two for hours. Luke obviously wanted some scratching for his sweet itch, but he got oddly quiet while you were talking about Willow. I don't even imagine what it is like - to talk about her. At least you and Luke were able to give her some happy moments. And you can almost see Annie's brain beep-booping on the logistics of getting her scratchie spots to your hands lol. She is almost out of her winter coat too - getting prettier day by day.

We love long videos.. Graeme + Luke =like meets like! Fascinating, in-depth information. So much to think about. Mutts or recuses -yes. My rescue Main Coon (possibly mixed with Norwegian Forest) cat is PERFECT. Cost-$0. I've seen friends spend literally thousands on pure breds from breeders. They envy me my cat Beau. He'll greet people at the door-so outgoing, friendly, snugly, sensitive, smart and beautiful--and perfect litter box habits! He's my perfect "dog like" cat. I do believe intuition can play a rather large part in choosing the right animal (at least for their personality/temperament.). I also believe, to some degree, that like attracts like.

Lena at 31:00 is hilarious. She looks like she's thinking "yes, I do that!" and than actually smiling because she thinks it's quite funny too. And really... there are quite a few moments not just with Lena but with all of them where the horses sense something in what is said about them. And when you are describing the exterior and gesturing that's not so hard to read for the horses, I get that. But when Gracie hung her head when you described that things had been bad in her past, and then lifted it right up and not hung it the rest of the time... that's touching. (I could be chance, but it seemed deeper to me. And probably not the words, but the emotions maybe?)

When a human is teachable then there are teachers everywhere, including horses, cats, dogs etc.

Gosh, that was so interesting it felt too short. It's really interesting learning about each horse's back story and how you came to own them. I am so glad you took on Gracie. I hate to think what would have happened to her otherwise. I bought my first horse when I was 12 and knew nothing. I bought an unbroken 3-year-old from a farm somewhere in Abbotsford for $100. I was really lucky because he turned out to be a great horse for me and we had a lot of fun together. He could easily have been a disaster since I knew nothing about horses and neither did my parents when I chose him. He was my best bud and I still miss him. If I was able to buy a horse now it would be for the cuddles rather than riding. Thank you for another interesting video, Graeme.

Every time somebody brings up that channel and that person I say the same thing. That's a person who is better off not being available to the world outside of a scientific study on how a racist, misogynistic, immature toddler of an old man can still attract so many women to watch him and spread his hate online. Every single person who has come here to call me names, comes from him. Every one that decides to spend their time like he does running around calling people names, judging them, judging their situation and feels that their opinion is the be all and end all. It's so unhealthy and yet is a fantastic example of how abuse of a race, gender or type of person (or color for that matter) can spread and be accepted so willingly for the benefit of a few tidbits of possible good information. As if the whole package doesn't need to be considered of how said spread of hate only makes the world worse.

I am here because I loveo horses, and never get to be around them. When I do get to be near one, I don't care anything about what kind of horse they are, I only care about being able to pet them and interact with them a little. Another GREAT video! At 20:30 my suggestion when it comes to what the seller says, just say the complete opposite. Example, "great with kids", really means not at all suited for children. "Horse has a sounds mind", be prepared, the horse most likely will run you over or throw you into the fence. I am kidding of course, but not really. Never trust what a horse seller/trader truly says, or what's printed in the auction catalog. Monty Roberts talks about how his dad would make him ride a troubled horse for hours before running it through the auction. There's also items shady sellers will give their horses that will NOT come up in a standard drug screen. "Horse seemed calm when we looked at it, now it's bouncing off the walls when we got it home." I am not even close to being an expert, but I have personally heard and seen some of these very practices. We also have a horse right now that's "great for kids"! She is an amazing horse and has come a long way since day one, but she's a lot like Roni, started with a VERY heavy hand and is extremely guarded, and with in a blink of an eye will revert into feeling she needs to protect herself. With that said, she is great, and I am glad she's in my life, we are both learning a lot from one another. Lastly, if you get a troubled horse be prepared to take you time and be patient. Horses are not computers or smart phones that are fixed quickly with a Ctrl + Alt + Del, one of the many reasons why I love them so much. Time, patients and repetitions and always have an open mind, there's never just one fix for anything involving them. If you're in the market for a horse, tell yourself now, there will be things we need to work on or get fixed, and there's a really good chance the horse will not be the horse in description. Fantastic closing statement, if you come across problems work through it and ask for help.

Thank you so much for all of this! These stories of your horses are fascinating, and hearing your thoughts is just revelatory! I know I've said this before but so much of what you say is brand new information for me, and it resonates in a way that what I was taught about horses never did. I grew up riding horses and no one I learned from ever taught me what you know. Would you ever consider getting a horse that bit (for whatever reason, fear or mistreatment)? Let's say for the sake of a thought experiment: day 1, you just get this horse in their paddock, you know they bite. How do you approach dealing with that? You said your horses don't bite because they like and trust you (and it is so obvious they love you!). How do you convince this new biting horse that they don't need to while staying safe?

Not all great horses are cuddly. One of the best horses I ever had the pleasure of being with, didn’t care about cuddles. He was a quarter horse gelding who was extremely versatile. He could be fast and full of energy, or he could babysit a toddler. He was kind and very good around other horses. Great trail horse who just happened to be a champion barrel racer. Never offered to buck, kick or bite. He tolerated being fussed over, but never cared that much about seeking pets or cuddles.
@StableHorseTraining2 жыл бұрын
True enough. I imagine it was the torture of barrel racing that kept him from wanting to be close to humans. Nothing like being whipped and spurred to run mindlessly around some stupid barrels for the benefit of a human to make you bitter and "tolerant". It never ceases to amaze me the blindness of humans to the abuse they dish out for the "pleasure" of the horse because they "love their job". You literally have no idea why the horse does what he does and then say "some horses aren't cuddly" like it's normal or something... If a horse doesn't come up for scratches etc then it's the problem with the person, not the horse. Just wow.

Off subject,, I asked once about "driving horses". I know you're not going to do that, but there are working horses. I did a little research, I'm curious, yes it's possible to use a horse to pull something without a bit. And some people swear it works better then the "stupid" bit. Some claim much better. Just a very interesting fact, to me,.

There's no good reason to use a bit in a horse that I can think, no matter what they are doing.

I just watched a video about a young girl going to an auction and how she chose a horse to buy. One of the comments I heard was that dappling on a horse’s coat meant good nutrition. Is that true?
@StableHorseTraining2 жыл бұрын
I don't believe there's a single bit of science behind that and is more of a "old wive's tale" kind of thing. Nice to think about of course and I'm sure there is enough anecdotal "evidence" of this particular hammer looking for a nail.

When will you introduce Annie to the herd in the big arena? What a bunch of lovebugs.

I think he said in another video that at her age Annie might break out from the arena -- whether that's because she's too short and would go under the fence, or so young and light that she might jump it, or just so new to being off the range that she doesn't honor "fence," I'm not clear. I think she's gotten bigger since that video. I'd swear her head's gotten larger. Edit to add I sound silly writing little Annie is so light she might float over a fence, but I've watched young calves race around a field and around their *very* solid mothers and it always strikes me that extreme youth and energy can defeat gravity.

My dad used to say if a horse pinns it's ears walk away it's not good

Veronica Smith,What does pins mean?
@StableHorseTraining2 жыл бұрын
when a horse puts their ears all the way back to "pin" against their head backwards. Essentially it means you haven't established a good relationship to the horse and her dad is suggesting to walk away from horses like that as it's not good that you don't have the ability to be a friend to the horse.
