The taxi close to the edge on a dark night is the worst. That is why you stay completely strapped in with the ejection seat armed. I am damn proud of these wonderful men and women. And very grateful for their service, many times in very demanding conditions.
@OFFGRID_Trucker
@OFFGRID_Trucker Жыл бұрын
Huh.. I understand keeping strapped in, but why would they wire up the seat to be able to disarm it..?
@Glee73
@Glee73 10 ай бұрын
the seat is armed, means you can eject at any time if something goes wrong. only once the plane is chocked and chained, and the pilot is preparing to get out of the cockpit, is the seat disarmed because its potentially dangerous to try and climb out with an armed seat.@@OFFGRID_Trucker
@DieyoungDiefast
@DieyoungDiefast 10 ай бұрын
@@OFFGRID_Trucker They're not wired to be able to disarm the seat. Prior to climbing out a crewman will insert a pin with a 'Remove before flight' tag on it which safes the seat so that the pilot can't accidentally trigger the seat. Same as the 'Red shirts' inserting similar pins into the missiles and weapon mounts to safe all the weapons.

@@OFFGRID_TruckerAn armed ejection seat is good IF you’re properly strapped in, but have you ever seen what happens when one goes off when the person is NOT strapped in, or is simply leaning over it when it accidentally fires? Yeah, not good. You go anywhere near the cockpit and ejection seat, you check and make sure the safety pins (plural) are in.

parking that near the edge on a calm day was scary enough, I can't even begin to imagine what that would be like in a real combat situation or in really rough weather. If anyone ever questions why we spend so much on defense....this is why. We spend so much because we're the only country on the planet with floating cities capable of going everywhere in the world, and bringing armies of aircraft, subs, and naval vessels with them. We have this capability because if we don't, the world changes, shipping internationally would deteriorate into an almost impossibly high risk industry where the costs and risk of piracy rapidly outpace the profit, countries without strong manufacturing bases would de-industrialize as they can no longer acquire the products, materials, and parts necessary to maintain modernity... And that's just the beginning. This is what our Navy does, they make sure the whole world plays nice with one anothers freedom to trade. Easily the most important role in the world, and almost always overlooked by everyone. Thank you for your service, every last one of you in every branch.

It was more fun in a Tomcat than Rhino- much bigger jet sticking out behind you for pilot (well mostly the Yellowshirts to consider) but much better and easier control of NWS (more powerful actuator and more precise steering due to full throw rudder pedals vs Hornet style toy pedals. Good times! For some reason the bow scared me more than the fantail at night.

Trust and skill, skill and trust. The temptation to look at where you think you should be going, and not where the director knows you should be going must be overwhelming. My only experience of something similar was seeing trucks being loaded onto a stern only loading ferry in Italy. The deck crew knew exactly what they were doing, but first time drivers who kept checking their mirrors got a whistle blown at them, but if they kept doing it the greatest ignominy was to have the deck crew jump on the step and steer the truck themselves. I'd like to see one of your deck crew do the same!

Taxing on the land can be tricky at times with room for some error. Hats off to you and your fellow naval aviators, taxing on the deck with a couple feet between you and water! Rock star pilot stuff. Salute!!

Awesome video! Loved the lead in. As always, watching you fly the landing pattern to a successful trap is a pleasure to see and best of all, to hear you describe what's happening. Don't ever stop sharing with us, all that you are doing while maneuvering because that's the gravy on these videos. Can't wait for the next one! Keep them coming!

Every time I park my jet right on centreline in a taxi out position it feels a little bit like this … minus the ocean all around me and a literal drop off beside my gear 😅 hats off to you, you make it look quite easy while I’m sure it’s not!

Wow this is such a great set of videos. As a lay person, it's fascinating to see and hear all that these great pilots go through, how they are constantly making decisions, following orders and flying the jet. We are so lucky as US citizens to have such accomplished and dedicated men and women flying these Navy jets.

Great Video ! Somethings never change,wind waves,yellow shirts. I was a Brown shirt. When not flying, chains, wing struts, tie-down on the fan tail, talk to pilot about the a/c . "fly navy"...😊

Another masterpiece. You do great work on these voiceovers. Ive been in the transportation industry for 48 years, drove "brown trucks" for 38. It kinda sucks compared to what you do. Through your awesome videos i get to see alot of what goes on during launches and recoveries. Im also understanding more of what my dad did in his 37 years at Jax NAS. Thanks again for these videos AND for what you do.
