I never had any luck with the fish mapping for the year and a half I used it. It was good for finding current rips, but that was it for me. I only find positive reviews from people who are paid to review it.

Love how you showed us how the SiriusXM Marine worked and the different features. I dont have an actual weather radar system on my boat, so I can see how I would use it!

This definitely looks like a useful app. It could make a fisherman out of me, even. Now for the boat and equipment part.

what model spinning reels, line and rods do you use for mahi, tuna, snapper, grouper? I'm getting into saltwater fishing after decades of freshwater and i'm trying to figure out the gear needed. Thanks.

For reels we like to use a Penn 6500 Slammer and pair it with our Gale Force Do It All Rod and 30-40lb braid!

thank you for the info. Is there a reason you prefer the slammer vs the battle series of Penn reels? @@GaleForceTwins

Is deep dropping for beeliners(vermillions) common on the east coast? Here on the gulf side they are more of a by catch when targeting mangs, lanes, porgy, etc.
@WilReid
@WilReid 7 ай бұрын
We target them in the Gulf, out of Pensacola but pretty far offshore. They put a lot of meat in the box, especially when you get into a group of large ones. Biggest we've ever caught was ~27" and have regularly caught them 20-24" to limit out (10 per) for 3-6 people. That's a lot of meat when you can only keep 2 red snapper per person only part of the year, and they freeze well. Red porgy is the most common bycatch for us when targeting vermilions.

King fishing with a $5,000 setup LOL. All you need is a 7ft rod and 20lb line on a lil reel :) Caught 40+lbers all day with that setup. Too big and you'll rip the hook right out their mouth. Plus they're very intelligent about line and lures, hence the need for such light line.

Dumb question I’m sure but why do y’all wear the scarfs on your necks and face when underway? Thanks.
@landosharks9669
@landosharks9669 7 ай бұрын
Can't answer why they wear them, but my BIL charter captain wears them bc it protects his face from sunburn and windburn/chapped cheeks & lips while running. He manages to take on a lot of sun from the reflection of the water, too, so even a wide brim hat offers minimal protection from the glare. When it's super hot out, you can dunk them in a cooler of ice and put it back on to cool off. When he fishes close to islands it keeps sand gnats out of his ears, nose and mouth.

Why did you let the Almaco go? That’s great eating
@WilReid
@WilReid 7 ай бұрын
Wind. And somewhat water. When underway, you're often constantly being hit with a spray or fine mist of saltwater that dries leaving your face covered with salt. Salt being hygroscopic will draw the moisture right out of your skin. That will obviously lead to dry skin and even contribute to dehydration. And it's just a really unpleasant feeling. During winter it also helps keep you warmer. And it's not a dumb question.

I've had it for a year now and I've had absolutely zero luck with it. I've tried multiple times through multiple tournaments with it. Seriously wish SOMEONE would come out with a concrete how-to for this system. As I see it now I threw money down the drain and it sucks. Only thing it's good for now is just playing music 30+ miles out and even that music is barely decent.
@frackamaduk
@frackamaduk 5 ай бұрын
Seriously though, you should get those reps to do a thorough how-to on the water with you. Take them out for a day of fishing and let the experts of their own system prove it works. I'll honestly be surprised because I've watched every single video I could find and read every single manual I could and knew everything you already stated in this video and lots more, and had zero luck with it.
