Dolly is amazing, we love her here in Gatlinburg. She quickly set up a fund to help the people who lost everything in the fire, offering all those that lost there homes (owned or rented) 10,000 (2k for 5 months) 900 people took advantage of it. My old home (lost in the fire) was as the crow flies just a few miles from where she was born. I had insurance so I didn’t partake in Dollys gift but over half of the people who lost their homes and business didn’t have insurance.

I don't care what the score is, W.W.D.D. wins because of the wig. Fun facts: When wildfires ravaged Gatlinburg, she donated millions of dollars of her own money to help rebuild. She wrote Jolene and I Will Always Love You in one day. I Will Always Love You was written about her friend and mentor Porter Wagoner. The breakup in the song was a professional breakup. When Porter was almost broke, Dolly bought his entire catalog. Years later when he tried to sue to get it back, she gave it back to him for free. She was also there for Porter on his deathbed. Dolly is a saint.

Porter sued Dolly over what he believed to be a breach of contract. He thought she owed him $. It was settled out of court in 1980/81. After that their last album they had did together was finally released.

Dollywood was just in the news for their college education program that covers 100% of tuition and books for employees. That's a big deal. Waaaay back in the 80s, my stepdad won a backstage pass in a radio contest when she played a show at the big local auditorium. It was a concert, but he wore his Sunday best. He died years ago, but Mom still has the picture of him with Dolly on the shelf. Probably the only time I ever saw that man genuinely happy.

Round about comment on Dolly. My Dad's favorite song is "Coat of many Colors" (I think he relates even though he grew up in UK rationing, not TN). A few years ago he took a date to a concert (don't remember who but someone classic) they wore :Sunday best" as we would call it here and was disappointed and felt a little embarrassed that they were dressed well whereas other concert goers were not. But WWDD? If it were her concert she would have complemented the older couple dressed up for a concert! That is what Dolly would do! She's on my bucket list of celebrities I would love to meet and I'm not even the biggest country music fan. I just think she is an exceptional person that channeled her not having children into all the great charities she supports and her love of the LGBT+ community, because everyone needs love (children with books and people feeling they are accepted).

Talia, your attempt at cheating just made me laugh so hard. Norma Jean left the Porter Waggoner Show to spend more time with her children and family. Connie Smith could never be replaced by anyone. Dolly once said "there are 3 great female singers. Connie Smith, Barbara Streisand and Linda Ronstadt. All the rest of us are just pretending." She also said that there are 2 great female Country singers. Connie Smith and everybody else. Dolly is a national treasure. Fun trivia and I obviously have paid way too much attention to Dolly and knew the answers plus bonuses (ha ha). For team WWDD -Connie Smith’s big hit was a once a Day and she is married to Marty Stuart (also a country music and bluegrass singer). I will say that o have been to Dollywood when it has been Dollywood, Silver Dollar City and Goldrush Junction. In fact the Ferris wheel that is in the county fair portion of the park has been there I know for all three (not sure about the fourth) name changes. In fact, to be brutally honest, when I was about 5 I got stuck at the top while riding it with my Aunt Katherine. I was petrified and went into such a panic that even to this day-some 47 years later I am petrified of heights-like get sick, feel like I am going to pass out petrified. Fun times! By the way-loved the homage to Dolly with the wardrobe and wig Talia. Awesome!

She actually turned down the nomination for the Rock and Roll HOF this year. I remember hearing that on the news, and reading it from various sources online. I think she had said something along the lines of she felt she didn't deserve it because she wasn't a rock-n-roll singer/performer, or there were more deserving people, or something like that (I can't remember the exact reason that was given). I could be totally wrong about WHY she turned down the nomination, but I feel like it was something close to the statement she released. I'm sure someone will correct me if that's not the exact reason. Either way, she did turn down the nomination......or I could be totally wrong about everything and it could've just been a fever dream I was having at the time. :)
