What I always did was as I got bigger I was always questioning my mobility so as soon as my mobility would start to suffer I would back off a little bit on calories and settle into a weight that my body performed the best at in everything I did and what I noticed with me is I got super strong I'm very mobile and I look very athletic I'm 178 lb I can deadlift 6:45 I squatted 605 at one time and bench 390 that was at a weight of about 192

Hey how long u are training weightlifting for and karate (if u still do it)? Very curious since I myself have trained taekwondo for 3.5 years and had to somehow accompany both of these sports together so they would work well, which was actually quite hard to do back then (stopped with taekwondo 2 years ago)

One thing I notice many fighters do is deadlift: john jones,Devon Haney,etc. Some do it with the trap bar ,though some like John Jones does a barbell deadlift with 600. So what would the carryover be to fighting? It is the stability and explosiveness of the hips and legs . Also the obvious core strength for stability and tork in all movements. It is all.about how you integrate them. What Steff is expressing is that strength in itself is not a gauruntee of punching power. But that depends on bone structure and experience.

When teaching boxing to a new student starting out their are simple guidelines to consider and keep in mind... Never forget the objective of boxing which is... To hit and not get hit. A Boxer can come in all shapes and sizes so dont judge a book by its cover! Speed beats Power, Timing beats speed. Your first line of defense is your feet work. And for some this statement might be offensive... No amount of muscles are going to keep you from getting punched in the face because..."You cant grow muscles on your chin" BHop🥊

The base of someone who can deadlift or squat 600lbs is different from that of someone who cannot. Definitely transferable when that energy is transferred into a punch, a takedown defense, or grappling…Not even considering that actual strength is based on strength to body weight ratio. Which transfers into explosiveness and speed. Lifting DEFINITELY transfers. Into literally anything you do physically. ESPECIALLY in combat sports where skills and experience typically match and physical ability is the only variable. I can do this forever. 😂

Big weights often hide small weaknesses. Combat strength needs to train Ballistic lines, which have nothing to do with lifting. It is abiut torque through the spine, generated by the adductors, transferred along the Linea Alba and into the shoulders through mid-line thoracic rotation.

Training specifically for your sports first and honing your craft is definitely important but gaining strength or gaining both strength and muscle will help if you don’t overdo it and try to gain too much size. Deadlift, squat and power cleans would do for boxers or fighters but also remember UFC fighters do lift weight so don’t discount it out of hand.

Lifting of weights will improve tendon stiffness and muscle force output, the tricky part is gaining weight whether muscle or fat most of the time extra weight past a certain baseline makes you slower and more fatigueable, Bruce Lee lifted weights, and he was a strong strong weightlifter, if you want to improve punching power focus more on technique heavy bag and boxing training in general, but this is specific to your goals, who is to say a guy who lifts and maintains his weight and flexibility and is an experienced fighter won't over power one who only does boxing training, it's possible that certain weightlifting methods do not translate well to fighting but I would just recommend you check out Bruce lee's training methods with weights calisthenics and isometrics

With boxing youd need excellent range of movement amd motion so if you are going to build strength using weights, you must surely need to avoid hypertrophy as having large muscles will make you slower and restrict the movements. You want to get as strong as you can without inflating the muscle. An the weights has to be the assister in your program, not the star of the show. Less than 20% of your training should be weights. Anymore than that, your fitness will develop in a direction not optimal for fighting

Almost all the best boxers are already born strong, meaning they have naturally powerful and robust physical structures genetically. At that point they just develop perfect technique. Heavy strength training will only impede them. They need to remain flexible and train their speed/power without using heavy weights. A heavy squat will reduce your torsos rotational power by making it too rigid for quick repeated twist in combination punching. A heavy bench will teach you to push instead of snapping your punches etc... Traditional weight training will only benefit boxers who are naturally weak but then they will never be able to compete with naturally gifted athletes anyways as being strong from birth grants you multi faceted strength in all angles and directions as you've trained since a child with superior muscle recruitment and activation.

The old time boxing trainers said that punchers are born not made. Paul Anderson who many claim was the strongest man of all time tried boxing and got his ass handed to him by total scrubs. I don't know if the strength gained through weight training translates over to punching power. I personally have never seen it. Boxing training should revolve around running and sparring, at least in my opinion.

So the reason weight training doesnt help in striking like it does in grappling is because heavy hands are genetic youre born heavy handed you cant train for it you either have it or you dont same with speed yes speed is genetic you cannot increase them very much if at all in boxing you can increase your skills to move more efficient but the genetic freak will always surpass you with with minimal work having muscles and lifting weights does not give you speed or heavy hands it just helps you in grappling but doesnt hurt or help you in striking skill gets you further for sure but you cant make yourself heavy handed or lightning fast thats gods doing

She got the beating of her life against the skinny girl but the beating would have been much worse had she not been strong. Lifting exercises technique wise do not carry over to any sport other than lifting competitions. It’s the muscle and strength that carries over. A bigger muscle all other things being equal, can generate more power. That’s why there are weight categories in sports, and that’s why steroids are banned. Size and strength gives a big advantage but can be overcome with enough skill to a point. An analogy of how dumb this conversation is would be like taking a 4 cylinder engine, adding 2 turbos and spending 10,000 dollars on tuning, adding NOS then racing a standard 6 cylinder family car and saying look engine size doesn’t matter, or the methods of building bigger engines don’t carry over to speed. Ask any boxer who has moved up a weight category; bigger people hit harder. We’re always saying things like “Bodybuilders can’t fight” well duh!! Bodybuilders aren’t fighters. Swimmers can’t fight either. However, take a bodybuilder and train them the same way as a pro fighter and you end up with Mike Tyson.
@lead5916 Жыл бұрын
The reason people hit harder in higher weight classes is actually more about their whole bodyweight than their strength.
@Wildcamp-lifestyle Жыл бұрын
@@lead5916 It’s both. Greater strength equals more force combined with weight so all of the force is transferred forwards. A bigger person is a stronger person and more strength equals harder punch all other things being equal.
@lead5916 Жыл бұрын
@@Wildcamp-lifestyle Well in theory your right but in actuality you can't really apply that strength cause if you want to your muscles all tense up and you get slow and stocky because of it and its not even stronger at the end because of the speed and technique lost. So basically only about 10 to 20% at best of the greater strength gets applied to the punch. So yeah I guess it's not insignificant but I would rank the higher weight (bodyweight) behind the punch as a more important factor.
@Wildcamp-lifestyle Жыл бұрын
@@lead5916 If you’re not abusing steroids, you’re not going to add enough muscle to be a negative, only a positive. Unnatural levels of muscle that your frame can’t handle would cause a problem but that’s very unlikely without drugs.
