I'm glad you found a good use for those. Didn't think I it would be an educational video. Nice.

Hey Bonnie.Very interesting. Today, the perfect test scissors came in: inexpensive but convex shears that had been improperly sharpened many times. They were beveled and the rideline was long gone. At first, even working the corner of the stone, I couldn't get a rideline. After chamfering, a few strokes and Bam! Perfect rideline. Okay, maybe a bit wonky, but it's there and I didn't have to spend 15 minutes grinding away on my stone. Thanks for the tip.

You are welcome. I'm glad it worked for you.

I like how you were able to do this with a flat hone but for us that have both, I like the TAS Ookami Gold for doing this quite a bit faster with the higher speed motor and its diamond stone. But you definitely made it work with your special curved shears adapter. Thank you!

I probably should do more of these. My training focuses mostly on convex that is why people I teach often struggle with the bevels.

Jim is using an angle of 55 to 60 degrees (USA) when chamfering.

But if the shears are upside down wouldn’t that be the opposite? Still figuring this out. I am a mail order sharpening coming in that will need chamfering. May record this too.

@@BonikaShears He is also mounting it upside down for chamfering as far as I could see :-)
