@@cj9667 well they already know that the sheriff called his daughter from his phone and then took the judges phone and dialed his daughter from his phone.we know that was told us over that district court hearing they are checking to see other messages and it is going through forensicphone search or whatever but we do know the last calls that that that the sheriff made he made 2 calls on his own phone to daughter and one on the judges phone. That was part of that affidavit ordered the testimony of the one in charge of this case.

I agree this is clickbaiting because of the word "How". I appreciated the content of the video and I'm ok with having watched it. However I'm not impressed with the title now that I know there is no great revelation or question of "How" this murder was done. If the title was "Why did...." instead of "How and why did...." I would have said the question mark renders the title to be non-clickbait. But as for the "How" part, well nothing was added to the obvious we learned when this story broke. Armed sheriff (no surprise there) walks into judge's chambers (big deal!) and aerates the judge with his piece (ok, shocker there on the whole but in terms of "How"? Well, guns tend to do that sort of thing when triggered in the direction of someone!). Since nothing was added to augment the obvious "How" circumstances, its clickbait. I think the Judge caught the Deputy. The Deputy threatened to expose the Judge's "affair" with the Sheriff's wife and/or daughter. So the Judge allowed the Deputy to use his Chambers. The Sheriff caught a clue during the deposition. It took 3 days for him to put it together and he went to see the Judge. Look at his phone, and the rest is in the police report.

I live in Louisville and know people from eastern Kentucky and that part of the state in the past was known for bloody feuds. This was not like that. The Sheriff killed the judge, laid down his weapon, probably disassembled it, walked into the courtroom and surrendered. Whatever the problem was he tried to talk with the judge beforehand and couldn’t resolve the issue. It was something that he couldn’t walk away from or allow. He knew what the consequences would be better than anybody, yet he felt that he had too. This was planned and the hill that he chose to die on. Whatever it was it was probably bigger than the lawsuit.

Just a note, in Kentucky, the sheriff's office does not operate the county jail or detention center. The jail is a separate government office in county government. A jailer is elected by the the people in the county elections to operate the jail. And you have deputy jailers to assist the jailer just like you have deputy sheriffs to assist the sheriff.

I live in Bloody Breathitt county and if you think the Hatfield/McCoy fued was bad look up Breathitt county. Back in the early 90s the Wolfe, Lee, and Breathitt county sheriff's were smuggling in a substance that was really popular back then. Most small town officials start out doing good, but when the power goes to their heads things like this happen. It still makes me mad after the floods we had how many politicians lined their pockets. I want to know why as well. I’m from Mississippi. We have a lot of small towns here. I practiced law in these small towns. I knew the sheriff, the deputies, the judges, every one in the court. Small towns are special. Everyone knows everyone else. It has to be handled in a different county and different people. I’m sure people know what was happening. I am also sure rumors are running rampant around town. A sheriff killing a judge in the chambers of the judge is unheard of.

This had to be a “in the heat of passion” type of incidents, thus Manslaughter. For that reason, I do not think it was about the lawsuit as I have heard that the sheriff and the judge unlocked their phones and had a look at each’s. I see no other reason a sheriff would get that angry that he would do what transpired. The sheriff saw something that was mortifying to him, thus the result.

Prayers for our little southeast Kentucky town and both families of the men involved in this tragedy. I knew both men and their families especially Sheriff Steins and his wife and daughter who are neighbors and dear friends of mine.
