I had to come on here just to say how blown away I was by the Princess Diana wigs. They were the best I’ve ever seen..and it makes a huge difference to the believability of the character. Well done 🎉

Having owned a wig shop, I forget that they often custom make wigs for movies and television instead of using pre-made ones. Incredibly time consuming to hand knot hair onto lace! I wish, however, they would use synthetic hair for the blonde wigs, since the blonde human hair always has a dull color and coarse texture…it usually doesn’t lay very well. (RuPaul knows this, and has his wigs custom made in synthetic.) The short wigs on Elizabeth Debicki look great, but you can see the problem on the longer ones.

Yes. Many actors have worn wigs for the parts they play. And not necessarily for lack of having hair but also, it’s healthier than constantly manipulating natural hair. I believe Naomi Cambell developed serious hair loss from stylists over processing for fashion shows. And Nicole Kidman, she wears wigs to reduce the strain on her natural hair. It was thinning from set styling.

Love this - fascinating, to be sure - but, they really fell short with Princess Anne's hair/wig in this current season; granted, the real Anne's hair isn't incredibly fetching, but the actress portraying her in S5 DEFINITELY looks like she's wearing a wig - and a bad one at that.

They've done a marvelous job with all of the hairstyles in The Crown 5 except for one - Princess Anne. The hairline on the face looks jarringly fake and there's not enough volume. They have however absolutely nailed Diana's hairstyles. Sometimes I forget I'm watching Elizabeth Debicki and not Diana herself.

I noticed that there were no Diana wigs featured in this video ... because they are not great. I don't judge the wig department too harshly, thought. Diana had hairstyles that were very specific which would be hard to recreate without it looking like a wig. The scene where Diana and Charles was talking about their marriage in the kitchen I thought the wig looks good from the front and side.

I thought that the wigs for Diana was done well this season. Previous season, before Diana married Charles and thus had different hair, I felt it was a bowl cut at most times. From the Australia episode onwards, it was done beautifully.

I'm sure the wigs are beautifully made but gosh some of them look SO obviously a wig, especially for Margaret and Anne. Their hair is like a solid helmet, and so terribly unnatural. Nobodies real hair looks like that.

Manville darling don’t worry you did not resemble Princess Margot all. It was just a clean performance she did not look anything like the bitchy royal. The red hair in the wig was absolutely wrong. Margaret was always dark brown. Her whole life. The quality and most of the style was pretty close.

I think the season was the worst casting. Brilliant actors all, but not at all like The Queen, Princess Margaret and so on. The Queen Mother is the least like the real thing out of any of them.

I don't think they ever cast the Queen Mother well. I always wondered who she was at first before I realized. I agree that the castings for the Queen and Princess Margaret were also off this season. I didn't know who Margaret was at first either. Just no resemblance physically or evokatively.
